  1. Started fishing today at 4pm, nice cloudy sky and some wind. Wife rigged up the texas rig and i threw a jerk bait and first cast caught a bass by a culvert outlet. She caught bass 2nd cast and she never stopped catching. She stood in the same place from 4 to 9:30 pm and caught 25 bass and 4 sunnies all on t rig with 4/0 hook. She got so tired of reeling in the bass that she put a bobber on her t rig and was still hammering them just by wiggling her line a bit. Her best one was 4.5 lb. I was off trying all different lures as i get bored with t rig and i was catching them on a 3/8 oz keel hook and a 8 inch berkley kingtail red, then green pumpkin. Then i switched to a black hollow body frog and caught a few and then spinners and chatterbaits but no takers on them. Tried tubes and jigs and no hits so i decided to wackey rig a senko on a wormhook and caught a few. The mosquitoes came out to bite at 9:15 pm and they were so thick we had to get the heck outa there, just kamakazied us relentlessly on my face hands. Got home at 11:15 and took my underware off and found a tick, they like my undies for some reason as thats where i always find one.
  2. i am going today for the late afternoon and stay till 9pm or 10. Will put the waders on today also bank fish. I dont fish this lake much but i should so will be fun to see what i can hookup with. Leaf lake right next to cormorant lake minn.
  3. no dissrespect from me either. As a retired mechanic i have driven many turbocharged vehicles. Regarding my honda civic i have 138,000 miles on it and if it had a turbo i dont think it would be as in good a shape as it is now with zero oil burning. Its just alot of stress on 4 cylinders with a turbo. I wish you nothing but good luck with your purchase and it would be neat if you could keep us updated with its performance. I like to keep up with real people telling the truth and not dealers telling us what we want to hear.
  4. Specs for the I-4. Says to use premium fuel to reach 300 spec hp. Engine has 10 to 1 compression ratio which is stressfull for a 4 cylinder turbocharged engine. Has a 3.58 final drive and 300 ft lbs of torque, the 3.58 gear will help with the towing but hurts non towing fuel mileage. I would search the ford truck message boards and read about owners thoughts about how their explorer tows with a 4 banger and the longetivity of the engine before i would purchase it. Never believe what the dealer says as he is now in your head. I made a mistake years ago buying a regular v6 with an automatic to pull my 20ft jet boat and it had no power with the trailer hooked up and i coudnt drive it in high gear i had t drive it in 3rd with the trailer. What it needed was a manual transmission as the auto tranny just wasnt geared properly for towing. I have a honda civic with a 1.7 liter 4 cylinder non turbo. I get 35 mpg combined city-hiway and 39 mpg highway only. I give my honda a 10 out of 10 rating for reliability and fuel mileage. The best part about my car is it is not turbocharged, i dont want a turbo if honda offered to put one on for free.
  5. any 4 cylinder engine with a turbo is getting worked very hard. To get 300 hp out of it means the turbo is packing massive air into the cylinder and with only 4 cylinders that is heavy stress and fast wear on those 4 cylinders. They wear out faster than a woodpecker with a plastic beak.
  6. i may be one of the very few on this forum whom uses the ugly stick carbon 6-6 and 7 spinning. I find it very comfortable and matched with the pflueger president xt and a superior reel which are both light reels i can manuever those setups with no fatigue from casting, jerking and walking. A couple weeks ago i broke out the old 7 foot gx2 ugly stick and that heavy rod wore me out casting and doing the above. The carbon 6-6 and 7 can outcast the gx2 6-6 and 7. The reason i busted out the old rod was for distance that day but it wasnt getting the distance using same lures as the new carbon rods were getting. I love me some ugly.
  7. when i put my gloves on to fish i forget they are even on as they are skin tight open fingers. They smell like decomposed fish guts and just this past sunday i was putting peanuts and cookies in the palm of them and eating through the smell. You see when i am fishing i dont get all prissy and dainty, i was hungry while fishing and that to me is roughing it in the outdoors. Just today i went grocery shopping at wallmart and asked the self checkout attendant for help to cancel a purchase and he was rocking electric blue fingernails. always wear sunscreen on my face and large straw cowboy style hat. This year is the first for using a buff and i like it. I still put sunscreen on my face and then the buff pulled up when needed and still apply sunscreen after a couple hrs as sun can penatrate fabric even if the manufacturer says their buff is sunproof.
  8. i bought the material to replicate the feathered look online and then purchased shrink rap and now i make my own feathered hooks. Yes i put feathered hooks on my top waters and even tried one on a jerk bait and caught a pike. Tatical bassin had a video out long time ago on how to make a feathered hook easilly.
  9. sure was, we didnt get home till 12:30 in the morning and after putting the gear away and prepping the panfish for the next days dinner i didnt get to sleep till 4:00 am, i just lay in bed reading the computer and got up a 6 am to eat. After arriving home at late night, its an hour and 15 minute drive, and putting all the gear away i just cant sleep, i am so jacked up from the day and believe me i am constantly moving, wading, climbing up embankments and sore and stiff when we get home from the lake but still i am just to wired to sleep.
  10. as a former mechanic i used duct tape numerous times to hold my cut hands and fingers together.
  11. put yourself in his shoes, he committed himself to making these videos and i am sure his is as busy or busier than many people who watch his vids. He has many followers now and he has to keep putting out the vids or he wont last long so i am sure he is time stressed and makes these vids when he can hence the driving in the truck vids, the kids running around the house..... So what would you guys do if you took over his channel for say 6 months? You are a busy person but you know you have to make 2 vids today, where would you fit that into your day? Would you do a presentation which takes more time to prepare or would you just ad lib your true feelings and make a easy vid? Would you talk about the senko for the 6 millionth time, or repeat the millions of allready done vids on how to fish a jig? Well he mixes it up with lectures about conservation and controversial subjects that allows him to get the vids done and covers subjects that may turn people away or could attract more followers. Like he says if you dont like the channel just unsubscribe.
  12. yeah i tell ya it came out of the water when it hit and the splash it made and then the pull to the weeds made me think i had a big bass. It fought as hard as the 3 lbers i caught earlier. Then i had to pull it out of the weeds and when reeling it in it jumped and i was still convinced i had a big bass. It was now dark out and when i finally pulled it out i was surprised how small it was and started laughing because i was all jacked up thinkin i had a monster 7 pounder.
  13. theres a guy who is on youtube and he paints pictures by holding the brush with his toes because he is disabled so give that a try.?
  14. did you watch his most recent video posted sunday about keeping bass to eat? I like the guy as i stated before. He was really primed up on the latest vid.
  15. while bass fishig the bluegill and sunnies were hittin my jerkbait, the wife was catching gils, sunnies, and crappie all day on 3 inch gulp minnows. wife catches em,cleans em, cooks them, i just supply the gulp minnows.
  16. its mouth was just like a crappies, it just didnt look like a crappie colorwise. It came out of the water when it hit the lure and it really pulled hard into the weeds.
  17. started fishng at 3:00 pm, wife was crappie fishing and she hammered the blue gill, crappie and sunnies all day into the night. Me, well i went for bass and i threw spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, big swim baits on a keel hook, lipless and caught zero, nada on my favorite bass lake. So now what? and this is all from the bank, i put on a suspending jerk bait because, why not? and this was a 110 size and wham, i got bit and got her in. Casted out again and wham got another 3.5 lb and cast out again and get it deep and then tug it a bit and let it sit and this time i seen the lure suspending and i watched as a bass came up to it and looked at it and i didnt move it and it slammed it for another 3.5 and then it all stopped for the bass that is. I couldnt catch a bass after the jerk bait died off, i went 2 hours with nothing throwing the spinner, chatter, so i changed up to a big berkley kingtail 8 inch red worm on a keel hook and finally caught a couple small bass dragging it through the weeds and pads. Then i went another hour with nothing, throwing tubes, wackey rigs, neko rigs and no takers so now it was 9pm and i thought i will try top water so put on a white frog hollow bodied pad crasher nothin, put on a black frog and now its 9.20 and finally it hooked up and hauled in a decent bass and then i lost 2 as they got me hung up in the weeds. I kept at it and caught 2 more bass at 9:40 pm. I thought heck im goin throw on a el-choppo wopper plopper and caught a bass and then i caught what i think was a rock bass, can you make a geuss, rock bass, crappie?
  18. caught this at 10:00pm sunday and couldnt tell if it was a crappie or rock bass, i am going with rock bass what do you all think it is? It slammed the el- choppo and headed for the weeds and i thought i had a big bass since i had to drag the little tough guy out.

2 inches in 5 days here in fargo nd
  20. i would have quit after 20 and went panfishing from my chair?
  21. on my spinning gear i switch the handle over to the other side every hour to give my shoulders, arms..... an equal workout so i had to learn how to reel with the right hand and learn how to walk lures and cast and am now very good using both.
  22. i am not as enthusiastic as i was last year fishing, why? because last year was the first time to fish in the usa since i left for the philippines in 2009. Wife and i had to road trip all over the detroit lakes region all summer using gps and google maps to find good fishable bank and wading locations. That meant long days road tripping all over the countryside jumping lakes to find fish and then moving on to the next. It was fun as she never had been to the usa and now she gets to explore some nice country and see all kinds of wildlife and new things like farms, combines, tractors, horses, cows..... And it was a new exciting time for myself also. It was all summer, fishing and scouting and researching the lake on websites, it was like a job and we scouted 4 days a week. I had to buy all new gear as i got rid of everything before i moved to the philippines. I spent around $1500.00 that summer for fishing gear and by the fall we had our preferred lakes and to this day we stick to our list so no more long searching trips starting at 9am. Now we leave at 2pm or later and get set up for the early evening bite into the late nite and if we want to move it takes us only minutes to load up our gear and jump over to another lake on our list only 5 to 10 minutes away. And it doesnt always have to be bass, now at the end of the day i like to sit down, relax and lazy fish with a bobber for panfish. I learned how to fish again and gained knowledge from this website so i feel less is more at this stage. I avoid reading some how to posts on this site now because the more I read the simplicity gets lost and i dont need to overwhelm myself. And yes tomorrow is sunday and we are going fishing and my enthusiam level is at 0 because i have our system down pat and this will be our 16th trip this year since the start of april. Yes i will become more excited mid morning when i start putting the gear in the car and will get all bassed up when i throw the first cast.
  23. i am a retired deplorable. I retired from being a heavy equipment mechanic at age 49 and sold everything i owned including my truck and moved to the philippines in 2009 for 10 years. I met my wife over there and brought her back to the usa in 2019 and we are here to stay.
  24. i was fishing in ND this past week and this cottonseed you mention, is that the cotton type of fluffy stuff that is floating in the water and gets stuck on the line? It is hard to get it off because in literally winds itself to the braid line and i had to stop many times and pick it off with my fingernails. My line in the spool looking at it now has many little white tufts stuck to the line.
  25. i like my president xt 30 better than my pflueger supreme 30 because the xt has a better feeling cork type knob and the supreme is rubber knob.
