  1. Seeing water temps in the low 70's already, this weekend is going to warm things up quite a bit. Hopefully it'll get em out of this post-spawn funk quickly. Went out on Lake Sabbatia for a few hours around noon today. Got 1 real nice 3.5lber in the boat on a bico jig. Still trying for my 1st frog fish of the year but only panfish are hitting it so far. Pre spawn was NOT long enough this year... sheesh Trying again early tomorrow morning for a couple hours.
  2. Yeah the guy that won took home lunker with a 6.5lber 21.5" fish, amazing catch for sure. Next biggest was 16.5" I believe. I could definitely see the pleasure boaters getting annoying, there were only a couple on the water Saturday and that was annoying enough. Gonna try and go back in the Nitro a couple times before summer takes off. Next up is the Mill ponds in Brewster this weekend, never been so it should be fun trying to figure em out.
  3. Had a kayak tourney at Lake Quinsigamond today. 1st cast at 6:00am and hooked into my 1st largemouth at 6:21am slow rolling a Dark Sleeper. Next bite didn't come for another hour and a half, again on the dark sleeper. Tried some jigs, senko, chatterbait, t-rig craw, and drop shot but with no bites I went back to the dark sleeper. Filled out my 5 fish limit at 12:01pm. After no bites for a while I tied on a XD3 throwing parallel to the bank in 8'-10'. Got 2 more largemouth, one at 1:46pm and another at 1:54pm which moved me into a tie for 2nd place! Ended up with 3rd since my big fish (15.25") was smaller than 2nd place. Another awesome tourney with Slay Nation in the books. Next saturday is Long Pond Plymouth with NEBassin. Water temps were around 48-53F degrees, mostly cloud cover with some sunlight, 5-10mph winds. Did end up catching 2 tiny smallmouth on the XD3 as well as a Rainbow trout! Rock bass were a plenty but only 1 pickerel, i'll take rock bass over slime darts thanks. Overall I'd definitely go back again, great place to hone offshore skills.
  4. Went down to Tispaquin with the Kayak for the 1st time yesterday. Looks like another very flat shallow weedy pond. Still can't figure out these bodies of water, only bites I got all day was pitching to shore cover. Got 3 bites on creature baits but they all came off. Tried crankbaits, jerkbait, spinnerbait, ned rig, even some top water.... nada
  5. Meh Its not too bad, not a lot of shore cover to pitch to, very shallow, and lots of weeds. I'd bet you have better places closer to you. The pickerel are out of control there. There's an upcoming kayak tourney there on the 10th so just trying to figure the place out a little.
  6. Went back out to Neponset Res on the kayak for a few hours today. The spot that was productive for me last time had no action, threw a squarebull 3.5, small lipless, and a jerkbait but no bites so headed to the bank. Found a small 11.5" bass and a few decent pickerel pitching laydowns with a pitboss. Wind picked up and I had to reposition so started throwing the jerkbait while drifting and got a white perch on it. Wind picked up some more so back to the squarebull when I got another and the last largemouth of the day up shallow. A couple more pickerel later and 13-14mph sustained winds I called it a day. Overall it was fun, minus the wind. The wind sucks.
  7. Went out at 9:00 and spent 8 hours at Neponset Reservoir on the kayak. 3 Bass, 10 monster yellow perch, and probably a dozen pickerel. Honestly it was one of the best days I've had in terms of sheer numbers caught. All but 1 slime dart came on a tiny shallow running crankbait. Like Mr. Aquarium said, the pause and go was key. All fish came from the same general area, except the pickerel they were everywhere.
  8. Sportsmans Outfitters has Duckett rods on sale up to 27% off and just restocked on em.
  9. Went to Lake Rico yesterday and got 10 unscorable bass and 3 small pickerel on a Cutter 90 jerkbait. They were all in one small section of the lake. Tried around a few other areas of the lake and didn't get a bite for 2 hours. Returned to the spot I caught the 1st ones (aound noon) and the rest came after 2:00pm. Don't leave fish to find fish... Water temp was about 42F where I was catching them and down to 40F in other spots. Seemed like they were in random weed clumps.
  10. Went by the Norton res for 30 mins and threw a wacky rig at some open shallow water, some of the water here froze up from the cold the last few days. Didn't have any luck there, so on the way home stopped by a small pond behind my house. The sun/current had melted some open water from this morning so figured lets give it a try. Started off throwing the wacky rig then got the weedless hook hung up in some timber and broke off (funny how that happens right?) Switched it up to a Mann's Baby -1 I just picked up from BPS and 1st cast landed my very 1st ice out bass of 2021.
  11. Use the street view to check for parking or pull off spots. These days half the time you can even read what the access or no parking signs say on street view.
  12. Went to Sabbatia for a couple hours early this morning, since i've been going out in the afternoon all the time. Got no bites and the wind was picked up, then I casted off my vision 110+1 (on a spinning rod!) so I hang my head in defeat once again and called it a day. Talk about frustrating... ?
  13. Welcome! I like the UNI knot, very simple to tie, versatile, and easy to learn.
  14. Went out on Lake Sabbatia for a couple hours after lunch. Think i'll spend a lot more time here this year learning how to break a place down and really find these bass. Didn't find any bass today but did get the skunk out of the boat with a FAT yellow perch. Will be heading back tomorrow for another try while the water is warming before the cold comes back. Water today was anywhere from 41F degrees on the southern side to 46F in the northern coves.
  15. Nice to see another BR'er out there, that was me in the green Nitro at Santuit today. Sorry I couldn't really hear what you were saying out there, my ears don't work too well unfortunately. I started around 12:00 left at 4:00 threw a jig most of the afternoon but also tried a suspending lipless crank, underspin, chatterbait, tube, and ned. Not sure I even remember what a bass bite feels like, I set the hook on so many rocks and even pulled up a couple branches.
  16. Took the boat out for the 1st time this season, drove around Mashpee/Wakeby hoping to find some rock piles or boulders but came up empty. Picked some random points near dropoffs to 30' dragged a jig and a tiny swimbait along the bottom hoping to entice a hungry smallie but no luck.
  17. Just finished fixing up my 1st boat ever, picked it up back in November and spent the winter doing a mini restoration. 1991 Nitro 170TF 115hp Johnson/evinrude
  18. Explored Agawam on the kayak for 6 hours today, not a single bite. Not really sure how to fish this place. Tried a bunch of stuff but never really felt confident about getting a bite, blind casting pretty much the whole day. ?‍♂️
  19. Snipatuit has a bunch of water but wasnt 100% thawed yet. The wind today may help with that.

  21. Spent the day on Johns pond yesterday, the weather was just too nice to pass up. Had to bust thru 1/4" of ice with the kayak to get to the open water, the rest of the pond was all open and the remaining ice melted by 2:00pm. The wind was keeping me from looking for offshore spots for long so I spent most of the day in around 10'-15' and throwing both toward the bank and away to try and locate the bass. Fortunately the skunk has been kicked! Caught 3 decent rainbows on a ned rig then at the end of the day got a White perch on a blade bait, 1st fish on a blade bait for me! Yo-yo retrive hopping it off the bottom. Thanks for the tips guys.
  22. Took a scouting trip down to a couple places this evening... Little Pond in Plymouth is still completely locked up. Great Herring Pond in Plymouth was 3/4 open on on the North side, but the boat launch on the south end is still iced up. Mashpee/Wakeby is OPEN! Time to get my butt in gear and get the boat finished.
  23. I had no idea there is another Flax pond in MA, I was at the one in Nickerson State park. Good Luck out there!
