Cheap Reels
Got a Daiwa CA 80 for 65.00 new and I like it a lot

What is your reel lineup that you switch between regularly?
30 year old various Team Daiwa and equally old Shimano Curados and Castaic. Got a newer Tatula I like. As my “ vintage” reels wear out I’ll slowly replace them. Too bad you can’t get most parts for the old Japanese made TDs

The Frog Fishing Thread
Still use my first generation Mojo Bass 7’ frog rod and a Made in Japan Shimano Citica from 2005. I think the “hi speed” was still like 6.2. Use 65# power pro. Both circa 2005. Don’t laugh I still have Curados and a Castaic older than that. Not to mention a lot of old TD made in Japan from the 90’s.

Rod and/or Reel Bias?
I’m the same way and I can’t explain why. Daiwa on Daiwa, Shimano on Shimano. But I will put either on all my other rods. Good to know I’m not the only weirdo.

Braid vs fluoro vs mono/copolymer for wacky rigs
Use 1/0 or sometimes 2/0 Gamakatsu weedless wacky hooks and VMC weedless Neko hooks with braid to leader. No issues with hooking or staying hooked. I used to use YZH with same results. I think you are right with the circle hooks you are pulling it out of their mouth with the braid

Reel for throwing light weight crank baits
Hi all. Previous lurker for a few months but new here as a member. I have a 20+ year old Gloomis crank bait rod. It’s a 6-6 ML 1/8-1/2 oz. Honestly it feels more light than medium. Looking for a new reel that not only throws light baits well but is also on the smaller side to balance with the rod. I’m partial to Daiwa and was looking at some Alphas on eBay. Is the Tatula 100 smaller than the other Tatula versions ? Any suggestions? I would consider other brands also. Thanks in advance
