Mike Iaconelli's "Fishin on the Edge" Thoughts?
"He has pieced together bits of information from TRUE scientific organizations such as the American Fisheries Society and the Japanese Society of Scientific Fisheries. This is very much frowned upon by members of the scientific community, INCLUDING MYSELF!" This might be true but do these organizations make these articles readily available to the public? I understand everything is probably available to the public but what I mean is I personally don't even know where to start looking for articles like this (I wish I did). I understand why people in the scientific field look down upon this and I also know that he was interpreting the studies in his own way. But if I do not have access to these studies how can I not appreciate such a book that at least gave me a glimpse at this information. And yes Berkley does push their products a little in this book. Exspecially with the scents. But I found the chapter dealing with the Vision to be the most usefull in the book. It has been 6 months since I read it and I know I did not retain everything. But there isn't one book that I have read so far that they do not push some type of product. This is including Mike's book. Lane, if your colleagues and yourself produced a book similar to the one being discussed I would be the first in line to buy it.

Mr.Bass and one BIG FISH
Gotcha, The crankbait led me to believe it was some type of braid because of the high strength low diameter. Once again, nice fish!

Mike Iaconelli's "Fishin on the Edge" Thoughts?
Well if your serious about learning you need to pick up Knowing Bass: The Scientific Approach to Catching More Bass in my opinion. (I am sure there are a few people on here that will think differently) It won't talk about any fishing strategy at all. But what it will do is let you understand what a bass is and why they do what they do. This way you can read other books and make an educated decision on if what your reading from the pros or any other auther is just a sales gimmick or not.

Mr.Bass and one BIG FISH
I don't know what I would of done in this situation. I understand its a big waste of time but I probably will never have a chance to catch one that big again since I don't fish for catfish. What type of line were you using? Some type of braid I am guessing.

Mike Iaconelli's "Fishin on the Edge" Thoughts?
I finished this book a few months ago. I found it very interesting and entertaining. I do feel there are a lot better books out there if your looking to learn more about bass fishing. Since then Ive read 5 other books. Def an easy read and I looked forward to it. If your looking for a fun read I give it my thumbs up.

Ive bought 3 St. Croix Avids this year. Really falling in love with them!

Best uses for 7.1 gear ratio
Exactly, I like using mine for a jig or t-rig. I dont think you need 7:1 for a buzzbait but it helps a ton when you have to reel up slack quick and set the hook. And as far as moving these baits that is done with the rod anyway. Ditto. I use my fast geared reel for my jig/trig as well. This allows me drop a jig infront of them and then real it up quickly and drop into the next hole. In my opinion a 7:1 ratio is a little to fast for a crankbait. Just my opinion though.

LOZ tourney
Yeah, it was pretty awesome. At the condos it reminded me of seeing a bassmaster elite series event on espn2. Not to mention Ive never seen bass stacked up like that. It was a blast and now I know its something I want to do a lot more of. Good job once again Needemp.

Trimming Jig weed guards
I trim the skirt and the weed guard everytime. The skirt about 1/8 to 1/4 inch past the hook. I trim the weed guard parallel to the hook but I do not fan out the remaining guard. I read or saw this on tv as well but I haven't tried it yet.

Portable Sonar
I am looking to spend 200-250 on a portable sonar. I fish a lot in rented row boats with my trolling motor. I am looking at the Humminbird 535 Portable or the Bottomline 4200. Has anyone used any of these products before? If so how would you rate it. I have seen mix reviews on Cabelas and BPS website. If you have any other suggestions I would be glad to do some research on them as well. Thanks in advance, Jason

Summer Coldfronts
Well I read quite a few articles on the matter and Ive read that they can increase a bass' strikezone, make it smaller, and really not change. We have a small cold front 10-13 degrees difference comming through St. Louis and temps have been in the low 90s (I think, Ive been on vacation). I am sure the bass will tell me how they are acting once I get on the water but I much rather figure this out within the first hour instead of taking a while. Jason

breaking in my new rod and reel
How does fighting a 3 pounder feel on a 6" rod??? Back on subject, it always feels good to get the first fish out of the way on new equipment.

The so called "Bad Cast"
At my buddies lake we use to do this all the time in this one productive spot. There would be low hanging branches and we would try to cast under them but for the most part they would go into the tree (we were new to fishing). We would make the worm go in and out of the water and sure enough a bass would take it most of the time pulling the line out of the thin branch.

UMF 07 - BASS vs. FLW
I didn't get to see last years shows. Is there a lot of smack talking with this format (all in good fun type)? It would seem to me that when your competiting against someone in the same boat as you it would start up some fun conversations. Either way, I need to remind myself somehow to watch this.

Whooo Hooo !!! :-) It only takes one fish......
I went fishing the other day and a beaver swam underneath the boat. It looked smaller than that bass. Nice Fish Sir!

dan63136
I don't know if this will be much help or not. My boss owns some property on the upper Meremac and he fishes it twice a month atleast. What he does is goes with someone else. They will drop off a car where they are going to put out and drive to where they are going to put in and just float down the river. There is a truck waiting for them when they get there. Jason

Fishing after death spray?
A lot of times dying vegetation will cause oxygen levels to go down. So if this happens to an extreme level the fish will be moving somewhere with higher levels. As mentioned before look for moving water or an area of the lake that might not be affected by the chemicals. I don't know the lake at all so I can't tell you where to exactly look.

bank fisherman....
I use to carry 3 setups with me everytime I was fishing from the bank. One day I was tired of carrying all the crap so I decided to just bring my worm/jig setup and some hooks sinkers and plastics. I fished the entire lake way faster than I could of if I was carrying 3 poles as well as I feel I concentrated more. From now on I am going to concentrate on one technigue/setup per pass then I will grab a new pole/setup need be.

I just ordered a lot of soft plastics from bass pro online on June 7th. I checked my order to see what was going on and was told it was shipped on the 8th. It was going regular ground but comming from Springfield MO (I live in St. Louis). So If she didn't lie about it leaving on the 8th I should see it today or tomorrow. I will keep you posted.
