Fishing trip with the girlfriend!
All I want to know is how you got your girlfriend to go with you. My girlfriend complains everytime I go fishing but will never go when I ask. I might have to show her this thread!

Re: How big?
Hahahah, I realized that this thread was pretty much pointless so I tried to delete my post thinking it would kill the thread. To find out there is a huge discussion about it. About the length my small fish I measured my rod and where the fish started and ended. Thats how I know its 15-16 inches. I just find this kinda of funny. Glad the post wasnt a complete waste of space. Edit: My reel in this picture is a Sahara 1500FB. It is right around 4 inches even from the top of the spool to the bottom of the reel. After looking at the picture closely I realized the fish is more liek 14-15 inches instead of 15-16 inches. Closer to the 15 inches. Moral of the story, Pictures can be deceiving and you can not judge the size of a bass by a picture.

Busch Wildlife (St. Louis)
A lot of those lakes are considered catfish lakes on their map of the property. I guess I just assumed they only stocked catfish in those lakes and didn't even think about fishing them. Thanks for the info. Jason

Spinning Reel Knot
Allright, I will check that out. Thanks for the info.

Spinning Reel Knot
Well I need to restring my reel tonight and I was wondering if there is a special not I should use to connect the line to the spool. I typically just wing a knot, something close to a tripple granny. It works but I just want to do things the proper way this time. I ran a search on the forum and couldn't come up with anything. I know there has to be info on this somewhere. If someone could guide me to the right place I would appreciate it. Thanks, Jason

Buzzbait or Spinnerbait
This is why I love this forum. Not only does it help me slack off at work, but if I am looking to get some feedback within a couple of hours there is usually multiple people (other slackers I assume) to help me out. Thanks agian, Jason

Buzzbait or Spinnerbait
Well I guess I can throw both. I was going to throw a crank that I have had good luck around 6 pm lately. I could always just throw the buzzbait on that pole.

Buzzbait or Spinnerbait
Thanks for the info, I wasn't sure how the clouds affect the spinner. Its going to be hell trying to control this row boat with my trolling motor.

Buzzbait or Spinnerbait
I am heading to my local waters after work and I have a spinnerbait on one of my setups. It is 63 degrees here in St. Louis and its coudy with 15 mph winds. I am not sure what would be better. Buzzbait or Spinnerbait. I fish these waters 2 times a week and have had success with the buzzbait but I don't throw it until right before dawn. Any suggestions would be great. Bass have spawned about 3 weeks ago btw. Will be fishing near submerged stumps in about 6-12 feet of water. Thanks, Jason

Busch Wildlife (St. Louis)
Where do you fish in waterloo? Before my dad moved (when I was in highschool) he was a member of the waterloo sportsman club? This was a club with 3 small lakes. Is this the same place you fish? Edit: I just google earthed waterloo and I had no idea how many lakes are there. To bad you can't tell which ones are public and the off limit private lakes. Is there any websites that list the public lakes?

New to the Bass Fishing World..
Well you are in the right place. When I first found this site I made sure I printed off at least one fishing article everytime I had to go to my other office. It has been very helpfull so try to make an attempt to read atleast one article a day and before you know it you will feel more comfortable on the water. I noticed your from St. Louis so I would definetly read the articles in the Spring section, Post Spawn specifically. What I noticed from a couple lakes around here is that most of the bass spawned 2-3 weeks ago. Good Luck, Jason

Something bit my Senko in half!
Thats hilarious ;D

Frustrating day! - 50 bass day
Sounds like my girlfriends lake. I caught 25 bass and 2 crappie in a little over an hour and every bass was 10 inches long. I am going to be stocking some fathead minnows and take measures to control the population of the bass here shortly. But I doubt you want to make that type of investment on some property you could eventually get kicked off of.

Catch and release ethical question
As largemouth kinda stated. I would agree with what you did because even though the bass died it will still made a catfish or atleast some turtles happy for a little bit.

Busch Wildlife (St. Louis)
I actually jumped around early this year but have been going to the same two lakes the past month. Amazingly I had the lake all to myself on weds. On a side note. I contacted the president of Hawg Hunters of St. Charles a week ago. I really interested in joining some type of fishing club around the St. Louis area. I just need to find time to get to one of your meetings. I should of went last weds but I really wanted to fish. How does it work, do I just show up or do I need to let Gary know I'm comming?

Busch Wildlife (St. Louis)
Does anyone fish here at all? I work 10 minutes away and I am to poor to own a boat. So I get out there with my trolling motor once or twice a week. I catch plenty of 12-13 inch bass every outing. I was wondering if anyone knew of any particular lake that produced bigger fish than that. I practice catch and release so if there are some lakes that produce better fish they will be returned immediatly. Jason

What would you do.
Water is pretty clear usually. We had a lot of rain last week but I am assuming it has cleared up. The water temp I have no idea. I am in St. Louis and if I would guess I would say low 60s.

What would you do.
I am hitting up some local waters here in a few hours right from work. I am having trouble deciding what I want to start out with on my all purpose setup. I am open to anything. Conditions: Most of the fish are done spawning but there might be a few straglers. 83 degree weather and sunny but a storm front should be rolling in towards the end of trip. Setup 1: Worm/Jig Rig (probably texas rig something) Setup 2: Baitcaster (Going to try these new swimbaits I just got) Setup 3: Need help! (Spinning rod/reel 8 Lb Test) I devoted this entire summer to trying new things so I am up for anything. I was thinking about putting a small topwater on if it gets cloudy or wacky worm. I read the seasonal articles and some say a spinnerbait. I am over my head here and any help would be appreciated. Jason

Just another reason I can't stand my Mom
Well I would think you admitting to the world that your mom out fishes you would be a good enough mother's day gift. Thats just my opinion ;D

Pond with "snot" weeds
With what? I looked into chemicals and they are pretty expensive. Looks like it would cost me 300+ for an acre and a half lake/pond.

It's starting to click
Very nice looking fish! Congrats on everything comming together for you.

Pond with "snot" weeds
My girlfriend's lake has the same problem. By mid summer it gets so bad that it is impossible to fish. Anything short of a heavy jig won't even get through the stuff. I keep telling myself that I am going to get out there with my trilling motor and a rake. Does anyone know if this type of algae effects oxygen levels in small lakes?

Bass Fry?
I went to the local St. Louis county lake today a 1/2 mile from my house. I caught a two pounder on the third cast (Wacky Worm). I then noticed by the dam another one about the same size protecting her fry. What is a natural predator to bass fry? I threw pretty much everything I had at her. Swimbait, Wacky Worm, Roster tail, RatLTrap, and even a small topwater. I spent an hour on her before I had to go. She would nose right up to the swimbait and wacky worm but thats it. Everything else she showed no interest at all. Is there something else that I could of done? I know she won't be there tomorrow (If I even get a chance to fish), I am just wanting some tips just incase I find myself in this situation agian. Thanks, Jason

First time sight fishing! (Long)
I bought a pretty good pair of polarized glasses a couple days ago and decided to try them out as well as a small park lake a 1/2 mile from my house for the first time. This has to be one of the most frustrating forms of fishing ever. The glasses worked great and I could see small male bass protecting a general area. I couldn't tell exactly where the bed was but there definetly was a five square feet area they were chasing other fish off of. I read about this swimbait fad so I decided to try. I couldnt get one bass to even take the 3" lure in its mouth. Just looked at it. I finally figured out that they would at least mouth a 6" worm. I wasn't patient enough and missed a couple the few strikes that I had. I had a few questions. Why would the bass attemp to move the worm but not the swimbait? I just jiggled the swimbait in front of him and nothing. Am I doing this strategy wrong? Secondly, Is it possible that the males were just protecting a general area or do I just not know what beds look like. Lastly, About how long does it take for the females to move shallow once the males start bedding? I concentrated on one bass that was about 12" if I had to guess. (St. Louis Missouri Bass) The same bass barely grabbed my worm 4 times. I couldnt get a hookset in him. Any help that I can get would be much appreciated. Bass 1 Jason 0
