You guys like the old stuff?
That is amazing seeing it in relation to those other reels. What were its dimensions? Even using the materials then it had to be ultra light. Who made the pencil drawing in the background? Very fitting.

Why are bass rods short?
@Captain Phil I know without a shadow of a doubt I can not do that with anything approaching consistenc!?! Well unless by bucket you actually meant kiddy pool lol I actually did not learn much accuracy bass fishing. It was not until snakeheads got released and spread throughout the Potomac River system here in a Va/Md, early 2kish. Drifting in and flipping it perfectly so as not to spook but walk just inside his strike zone he's patrolling. Learned I had me some practic'n to do. Repetition with proper technique otherwise I was just engraining bad habits and making things worse. Honestly it's one of my favorite types of local fishing and eaten. They really are great table fair. Firm light mild flavor. Up there with crappie and trout. At least now when I try to drop a cast into a hole between some brush it does not end up in the branches more often than in the hole.

Why are bass rods short?
@Captain Phil thanks I knew it had been a long time. Always seemed like a silly rule. Certainly in more recent times. Seems the vast majority of bass rods are 6' - 7'6" Not that there are not a fair number using rods 5'-6'.

Why are bass rods short?
How long was the rule in place for rod length restriction 8' and under in bass tour? That had to have an effect on rod lengths offered in mass. It does not seem people have trouble fighting bass with short rods compared to sw or other species and in fast moving rivers etc. Given the general behavior of LM as long as a person can cast far enough more length would be wasted perf at the cost of accurate placement. For tournament I can see weight as a critical component. Fishing from shore is sort of two way handicap in my experience. The fish are either just further than a short rod can cast or under heavy overhang where long rods dare not tread. Bring both and have the long rod be a 2 piece. Most inshore salt rods I see recommended and people stating they purchased are 7' and over and 8' and under. One of if not the most popular config I see on salt forums is 7'6" MH F I certainly see the benefits of a 8' for casting distance especially with lighter lures in a UL I have a Star Inshore VPR in 7'6" MHF config that has been very good to me inshore. Under $300 lifetime warranty, good blank and components. Did a fine job paired to a Stradic FL C3k (15lb braid - 30lb leader) on my trip to FL around Cape Canaveral surrounding areas, sheepshead, reds, tripletail, even a few pompano as it was a bit early for them. Lots and lots of catfish. Oh my the catfish. Got me to stop fishing river mouths all together down there. Everyone takes out the target fish and throws the cats back in. Result.....lots of long spinned cats.

Do I need a 8 or 7’6 rod to cast 1/32 lures or will 6’6 get it done?
I can second Bulldog1935's comments and suggestions. He put me onto NS Blackout UL Rods. They are blanks manf in South Korea not China. The fit and finish of these rods is very much equal to JDM rods. I picked up both the rockfish II which should be here any day. My screw-up delayed it. The other I picked up as a dedicated trout rod. It's $241 the Taufin-S 632UL. My pics are to big to upload but I hosted them at the link below. Having it in hand I compared it to my Megabass Destroyer X4 House of Finesse F3.1/2-66X4S as they are both UL spinning rods. The Taufin-S easily matches the MD HOF for quality and finish and detail. Difference is $241 vs $370. The Taufin-S is 2 piece which I honestly prefer as I find no difference in the rods perf and makes storing and traveling so much easier. The Taufin has Fugi K SIC Guides and VSS 16 Slim Seat. My Taufin-S is very close to meeting your lure weight spec you desire. Mine goes 2g-10g @6'3". It's paired or will be when my reel arrives Stradic FL 1000S, CF double handle 72mm If you really do plan small creeks streams etc you might do best with an even shorter rod around 4'5"-5'2". Its length was recommended to me by Bulldog as well as a few others for that type of fishing. Taufin-s has a 483UL it's 4'8" has a lure range of 0.4-2.0 grams. That puts 1g right in the sweet spot. Hiking into creeks etc is much easier with a short rod and one in two pieces even more so. Rod weight is a scant 61g/2.1oz. Paired up with a 500 Soare/Vanford. Spool up with some pe#0.2-0.4 Suffix Nanobraid which is a minuscule 0.08-0.1 or if you don't mind ordering JDM/AUM Gosen Samon X8 in p.e.# 0.4 is a top premium braid. Finish off with some Seaguar GrandMax FX pe 0.6 4lb fluoro leader would be an ultimate UL trout small water setup IMO. I actually plan to get this rod soon for just that use in that rod reel line combo. Creeks, streams, small ponds, and small fingers on lakes to catch trout(brookies), gills, black bass etc. Breaks down to a 3ft package that ready to fish weighs in at 200g/7oz. I plan to use both but the 6'3" for river floats/shore etc and the 4'8" for creeks streams anywhere lots of overhang but will also use it on the river as well as a 2nd setup. I really like the grip/handle on the 482ul. Attention to detail on my rod is great. Pics of my Taufin-S 632ul That rod with the Soare CI+4 500s + 100 yd of green 4lb nanobraid or gosen samon x8 would make a sweet UL setup.

Does Tatsu hold up longer than other lines?
Just a FYI the Tatsu that is on the bulk spool is NOT precision wound. It does criss cross looser etc. Not different than any spool of mono etc is spooled. Only the smaller spools are line by line precision wound. Tatsu like Blue Label Leader is a dual polymer fluoro. It uses two different compositions. One the harder comp is the core and the outer is the softer comp. They are made into one mono line. The softer outer layer allows for better knot hold and a softer limper action. Kureha Seaguar makes many different combinations and mixtures of fluoro line. While they are both made thru the same process and dual fluoro polymer they very likely use different ones. Tatsu being main line probably uses a blend with properties to make it limper. Further for same lb rating they may have different diameters. Some leader versions have a hard outer layer, R18 Hard being one, making them stiffer for some leader characteristics. Some are made to enhance strength or add stretch. Most of this is in the leader section but also main line. For leader Seaguar GrandMax FX is their top of the line I believe. Superior to Blue Label but not a USA market item.. Then you have GrandMax Shock Leader that adds some extra stretch I believe but only goes to just under 50lb. You also have to be careful if you order very light line. IIRC anything under pe 0.8 is single not dual compounds as its too thin to do. But that's more for your gill and trout guy.. For larger you jump to Big Game Manyu Premium which starts at 60lb and goes to 215lb. Then there are specialty blends that are considered gen 5 effecting things like refractory and other non standard qualities. It's hard because the Japanese does not translate well. Usually better to find a English non usa vendor description but it has to be detailed usually Australia has good detail or some EU site. Point being its entirely possible a loose criss crossed rolled 1000yd/m spool of Tatsu could be real. Sold and Shipped by Amazon they likely get their stock from the same places Bass and Cabelas other big box stores get theirs. Just as likely to get fake/real as any of them. If orderiing online I do not see the difference other than Amazon if you have Prime has best turn around on shipping etc of any company I have ever seen. Just consider the buying power Amazon has. The only company to out do them is probably Walmart. I am lucky as I am close to not one but two Amazon warehouses and one major distribution center. Usually get my stuff in one day.

Does Tatsu hold up longer than other lines?
@Boomstick I understand. That would make me leery as well. Never heard of that happening. Not good.

Does Tatsu hold up longer than other lines?
As an example https://www.amazon.com/Seaguar-25-Yards-Fluorocarbon-Leader-40-Pounds/dp/B0009V2O18 It has a number of indicators. Its prime authorized meaning free 2 day delivery for prime members. This is always a very good sign as coming from a distribution center near you. It shows sold and shipped by Amazon. At least to my address in VA has a delivery date of June 2 with today being May 30 @ 11:52pm. Little to no chance that is fake Seguar any more than what you would get from any tackle shop or big box store in person or online.

Laurel and Hardy on Estes Flats
It's great having a life long friend like that. Looks like a good time on that yak trip. Never got to paddle the Guadalupe. But I sure had many good times on its waters. Rainy day here so did not go out but tomorrow will be here soon and more trout.

Laurel and Hardy on Estes Flats
Oh, does that bring back memories. My uncle took me every summer down to Rockport where he had a small cabin about 2 blocks off the water. We would fish off some bulkhead, not sure where, and I would catch flounder. Then we would go out everyday to the flats and wade fish reds trout etc. It was not ul as you use today but it was light tackle and spinning reels and lures. Never bait. My uncle felt bait was not challenging lol. He always had a cigar while fishing. Only time I ever saw him have one. A good 10-12 yrs of great memories. Blacked red fish at night. Learning to throw a cast net etc. I think it's why I enjoy a good cigar ever so often.. Caught my first sting ray down there. He was also who got me into shooting competitions IPSC IDPA 3 gun etc. Seeing that coast line with all the single raised beach houses. It's been a few years. It's great you took the time with your daughter to experience as much as possible together. So few dads do that anymore, at least up here. It's sad to see. Just got back from trout fishing. Used my C3k stradic on Megabass House of Finesse 6'2". Reel was too big for my liking on such a light rod, the 1k I think will feel better. Had a good day; caught a few bass and crappie and 6 nice size rainbow trout. Longest was 23.5" (just a hair under). Gave 2 to a friend and they rest are in the frig for family dinner tomorrow. Got home too late to have for dinner tonight. Good times. So relaxing.

Laurel and Hardy on Estes Flats
Hard day. Had plenty of those. Everything looks great on paper and just does not work out as it should. Run off has killed more than a few trips for me. I'm sure your friend got a chuckle watching your fire drill act trying to avoid the drift sock lol There should be a rule about warnings when posting pics of good food. Glad you and crew still had a good time.

Opinion? 20lb braid mainline overkill? Spinning setup
If you have the capacity you need and will be using your normal leader regardless and it goes thru the guides fine .......what does it matter? For the same thread count braid I look at the actual diameter not the supposed rating. The actual breaking strength I think much more closely follows actual diameter for a given strand count. So many braids are way over stated lb test. My 15lb PPSS8v2 was closer to 30lb break my 30lb was right at 50lb. I see lb ratings as marketing used two ways. Either how much stronger at the cost of diameter or the flip how small the diameter for the rating but it's in ratio that much lower in actual strength. Would sure be nice if labeled break lb was within a couple % of actual and stated diameter was within a few % of stated. Would be nice to have reporting spec standards in the fishing industry.

Reel that casts fartherest
A number of casting lure weight classes world records were set multiple times in 2019. That sure looks and sounds like a winch not an egg beaters. What these guys are capable of is amazing. 125g world record 280.69 meters: In fact the one major team that came outfitted with spinning reels switched from being undergunned from what I could tell. (Think they were Shimanos) More info discussing it hear Distance Casting World Records It gets kicked around all the time but all things being equal physics points to the winch not the fixed spool.

Stradic FL 2500 vs 3000
I have never understood as big as the higher reels have become in the USA, for both Shimano and Daiwa, why they choose to keep our market choice strapped. Sport fishing in the US is a $115Billion ecosystem fed by 65-70 million anglers. Japan's total number of anglers @200k does not even equal 0.5% of US consumer. Bass fishing in Japan has been on the decline for several years and is not even considered sporting by many there; not to mention large small mouth have been placed on the evasive list there. We have more high end equipment anglers then Japan has sport anglers in total. Then again we are willing to order from Japanese vendors which keeps cash flow and profit in their local economy and they lose the overhead of warranty repairs. We likely double their JDM sales Of those 13 configuration in 3 sizes in just 2 sizes 1000 and 2500 bodies you have 6 and 5 different spool configuration respectively. This indicates where the focus is in their local market.

Stradic FL 2500 vs 3000
Yeh this is actually for trout stream and creek and ul backbay. You would be surprised what those little 1k Stradics can handle. I do have a C3k and am picking up another. Bulldog I was helping me thru the various compatible spools and various upgrades.

Stradic FL 2500 vs 3000
Oops your right. I focused on the one close up. They just mention med size and o ly show the 2500 as the smallest. Should have thought to look at the stradic part number as well.duh. The YGK looks good. Very good diameter for lb rating.

Stradic FL 2500 vs 3000
Yep that's a good idea. I will pu one. Do they fit the 1k stradics?
-
Stradic FL 2500 vs 3000
Thanks for info on YGK. I will pu some to try out. While it's stupidly $$ I have heard very good things about the performance of Gozen W16 Braid. It's one of those super braids 16 strand and seems to have some very cool and long lasting durable properties. It's 20lb is the thickness of most 8-12lb 8 strand. Very limited vendors. I may pu a150m roll which costs more than that line roller. To be worth it will have to last a few yrs of daily/weekly fishing trips. At least I live right next to a lake lol

Stradic FL 2500 vs 3000
Wow that is one thin wire. Ideal for toothy fish. Never seen it that thin before. For the MTCW titanium line roller which they are certainly proud of that roller $70-80 ouch x 4, do I need to order the seals and bearing as well These $200 reels with stella bearings, double handles, and knobs are turning into $400 reels lol. This works out just like my shotguns and 1911s and well most all my guns LOL Just wanted to confirm on the spools as it just seemed odd to have so many spools so close in size. Example: using that pe 0.6 line size the 1000SS hold about 70m and the C2000SS holds about 80m. I guess I had a bit too much time on my hands as its been cold & raining here for the last 3 days. I ended up listing them with capacities. It's weird the way Shimano chose to size them. I would have expected main size 1000 C2000 C2500 to be in capacity order then broken down in each spool sub group Reg, S, SS. Instead it's the otherway. As the 1000 is the only standard depth spool it actually has the highest capacity. Doubt many people looking at reels would expect the Stradic 1000 to have 140m /60-70% more line capacity than the C2500S Vanford Vanquish or Stella. 1000 Body: 1000 PE# 0.8-240, 1-190 Stradic FL 19 0.6-335 1000S PE# 0.6-140, 0.8-100, 1-70 Stradic FL 19 0.6-140 1000SS PE# 0.3-120, 0.4-90 Vanquish 19 0.6-70 C2000S PE# 0.6-150, 0.8-110, 1-80 Stradic FL 19 0.6-150 C2000SS PE# 0.3-140, 0.4-100 , 0.6-80 Vanquish 19 0.6-80 C2500S PE# 0.6-200, 0.8-150, 1-120 Vanquish 19 0.6-200 The 1000SS would sure save on spooling LOL The depth must be 1/4". Added the Stradic FL 1000SHG reel and the c2000SS Vanquish spool and a 2500S FL for the C3000 reels to my upgrade parts order. Oh and I think I will get that black hole rod. I really like the look of it especially for the $. I wouldn't have thought it but I may end up with 2 each of these 1000 & 2500 reels. Now that the dealers have the new Vanford spools they are a lower price option to the Vanquish Stella spools for sizes not in the StradicFL.

My 10 lb Big Game and knot must be good!
Big Game is my go to especially for mono leaders in SW. Make up all sorts of rigs with various lb of it.

Stradic FL 2500 vs 3000
Wow your not kidding that vanquish looks great with the Nano. Its so subtle in color scheme but at the same time looks high end and classy. I like it. 30% cast distance is HUGE at that level. The "Mako titanium micro wire traces". Are they thinner than the Mako titanium 8lb wire ? https://makofishing.com/leaders-titan/mako-titanium-leaders-test-35-kg/ I was using j-braid grand for light lb braid but have had issues with it. Break offs and fluffing. I liked it initially. So moving on. On the spools of the long spool reels take the 1000 body is the only difference in the spool its barrel diameter or depth? Be it 1000 C2000 or C2500 series they all obviously have the same stroke but flanges are the same diameter and thickness as well? I ask as there sure seems like a lot of various spool capacities especially in the S-27 size. I counted 6 some fairly close looking at p.e. # capacity. At p.e.#0.6 a spread from 60m - 335m
-
Stradic FL 2500 vs 3000
Thanks for the info. The vanquish actually looks very good matched with it. Then again it would suck if it went went for a dive....eek. I can not find much on the net about them but they seem like a very well put together rod for the price . I think I am going to pick the lightest one to match with the Str FL 1000S 5.1 gears. Not that it's important but I like rods that are not the super popular brands that everyone is use to seeing. Will likely pu a C2k spool for if I want more capacity/thicker line. It's not a huge investment and looks to be a solid rod with attention paid in assembley from the pics you posted and what I could see from those FB videos that one guy has up. Personally I do not mind the blank left in the rough. Gives it a different two tone look. Out of curiosity, what brand and lb line do you prefer using on these UL setups? I seem to have gravitated to braid + mono/fluoro leader. I like to try different lines especially when using lighter lb as I find that's when small differences have increased impact.

Line Suggestions for Shimano Stradic ci4 1000
I like 6lb J-Braid Grand. Light thin limp but still strong. Your choice of fluoro leader. I choose it by actual diameter vs rated lb as it seems more consistent. I have just gotten use to braid main line. But it may not be your thing.

Stradic FL 2500 vs 3000
That is sweet. Looked like a hard time in the cold but fish'n is still fish'n! That was a really nice fly rod to give as a gift. I had a really nice Sage. One of the older ones that were really well made. It was a sad day when it got stolen. My uncle and I helped release I forget how many thousands of reds down at Rockport when they had that huge drop off in the late 80s.. I think I will pu a 1000s spool and may start with one of those solid tip black hole rockfish rods. Double it up to use on both fw&sw trout. Try some other back bay fishing with it would sure make it more exciting. Add the extra Stella bearings and a cf double handle. That should make for a good time. lol tech with that handle I'll have 2 more bearings. Add another rod but in casting and I have an excuse to snag a morethan pe1000tw. The only thing that has held me off is I want the brass hypergears but they only come on the 8.6 ratio and I would prefer 29" of the 7.1 vs 35" retrieve rate. Wish it had a set of brass in that ratio available thru another reel.

Stradic FL 2500 vs 3000
Have family slung from Houston Galveston thru to San Antonio. I've done a fair amount of fishing from Rock Port to the Padres and Corpus. Lots of wade fishing back bays for reds and trout etc.
