Umbrella rig rod
Yeah I watched a hookuptackle video where they said that the 7’11” H fishes best on the heavier side of its rating (2-4oz). I’m not sure how much a typical a-rig adds up to but if it says it can throw down to 3/8 then it would probably be a better choice. I was planning on maybe getting the 7’9” for a-rigs and the 7’11” for bigger swimbaits down the road. But if I can get away with just getting the 7’11” and throwing both on it that would be ideal

Umbrella rig rod
I’ve been wanting to try throwing umbrella rigs recently but I’m not sure if I have the right rod for them. My current football jig/flipping stick is the 7’3” HF Daiwa Rebellion and I was wondering if that’s too short for A-rigs. I have a 7.4:1 Curado 200K on it which should be fine but I’m not sure if I should get a longer rod. I have my eyes on the 7’9” heavy Rebellion. Would it be worth it to get a longer rod for A-rigs?

Lethargic winter bass
I was throwing a white 3.75 inch rage swimmer on a 5/16oz jighead I believe. Nothing too big. I also tried a Rapala deep suspending jerkbait, I just recently started throwing jerkbaits a bunch. Glad to hear you were getting some bites on a swimbait, I’ve been wanting to get into bigger swimbait fishing but need a rod for it first. Another reason to buy more tackle lol.

Lethargic winter bass
Yeah I typically go to Texoma more than Ray Roberts, much easier lake to fish. Tried RR again today with no luck and figured with the warming pattern over the past week or so, I’d be better off targeting the shallows in smaller bodies of water. Went to a small pond and caught 4 fish in a couple of hours. They were pretty feisty too. I’ll probably wait until spawn to try ray roberts again.

Lethargic winter bass
Well today I went fishing at Lake Ray Roberts and just couldn’t get a bite to save my life. Was fishing under a railroad bridge between 2 deeper pockets (25-30ft), right where bass should be this time of year sitting on the bottom. Water temp was right at 50 and I tried throwing everything at them. Football jig, Shakey, Ned, dropshot, even threw a swimbait and tried to get a reaction strike but nothing seemed to work. We just had a warm front come in the other day following that crazy cold and the bass are super lethargic. Someone was fishing the same bridge on a boat and was saying there were plenty of fish on his livescope but they weren’t going after anything. Is there anything that y’all find effective when the fish are like this? Or is there just sometimes nothing you can do? I just can’t wait for spring again lol it seems I can never catch anything in the winter. Thank you. this is the spot I was fishing at

Sustain FJ first impressions
Wow. What an amazing reel. That’s all I can really say. Picked up the 3000 size Sustain from Cabelas after going through 2 defective Vanfords. Both were not smooth and really loud. So I was left with the choice of dropping down to the Stradic or bumping up to the sustain. I’m sure glad I went with the sustain. It’s super smooth and quiet and isn’t too heavy. I’m sure the Stradic would’ve been great too, but weight and low startup inertia are important to me and it seems like the Sustain is pretty much a Stradic with the MGL rotor, a couple of extra bearings, and a paint job that better suits the Expride I paired it with. I can’t wait to take it out on the water but it is definitely nice

Expride A 7'2 MH Casting rod user's opinions
Dang I’ve been eyeballing the 6’10” medium and the stock never went down from 5+ so I thought I was safe. They’re all gone now…I already have a 7’2” MHB and don’t need the 7’2” MHA but it’s hard to pass up for 200. Help ?

Buying JDM rods?
Is there any downside to ordering JDM rods? I know at least on the Shimano rods they all can separate at the handle. Does that negatively affect sensitivity? Anyone who has used both, what are the differences? I would much rather pay 150-160 for an Expride from Japan as opposed to 290 for a US one if there isn’t much downside to them. What’re yall’s thoughts?

Reel for 6’ light premier
I went up to a 2500 Fuego LT on my 6’6” light premier from a 1000 Nasci. I can’t say I prefer one size to the other with that specific rod, but I think 2500 is the jack of all trades size. If you are gonna be using something like 4 or 6 pound Fluoro/mono, the 1000 size might be better. 8 pound and I’d kick it up to 2500

What is your favorite medium heavy Baitcasting rod under $200?
With current sales a Champion XP 734c is a great choice. I have one and it’s a phenomenal rod, there ain’t much that it can’t throw

Good budget all purpose rod?
Should be able to get it for 20% off at tackle warehouse right now ?
-
Good budget all purpose rod?
Haven’t used the Bass X but the Fury is a great rod for the money. The 734c is probably the most versatile bass rod out there. It says “heavy” on it but a Dobyns heavy is what other manufacturers would call a MH

Good budget all purpose rod?
You should be able to find the Tatula rods for close to 120 right now. If not then I hear good things about the new Tatula XT rods as well for 80 bucks with the TW Black Friday sale

reel for Carolina rigs, jigs, etc
The Zillion blows the Tatula away. I personally like the Tatula SV but you can definitely feel a difference. Daiwa reels in general feel more like an “airy” smooth and Shimano reels a “buttery” smooth. The Zillion very much has a Shimano feel to it. I hope one day to have the funds to hold a Steez ?

reel for Carolina rigs, jigs, etc
Zillion SV for anything and everything but big swimbaits. The Curado 200K is another reel I love specifically for big jigs and Carolina rigs as well.

Expride A spinning rod
Pulled the trigger on a 7’ medium Expride B. Cant wait for it to come in ? thanks

Expride A spinning rod
I was looking around and found the 6’8” medium X-fast Expride A spinning rod for 202 bucks. Been debating between that and the 7’ medium Expride B for an all around spinning rod. Gonna be fishing a lot from a kayak as well, so taking that into account would it be better to spend the extra 20-30 bucks on the 7’ B model or get the 6’8” A model for cheaper? Thank you

6th Sense Whale Swimbaits
I’ve got some but haven’t got anything on them yet. They are a little stiff but durable. 6th sense soft plastics in general are tougher but don’t have the best actions. Other than their stroker craws I’m not a fan of their soft plastics (love their hard baits though). When it comes to swimbaits I almost always get rage swimmers. Might get something softer when the water is really cold. I bet in the winter those whales are stiff as a board

Dobyns SSM735C
I don’t throw buzzbaits but for jigs up to a half oz, my 734 champion works great. Any bigger and I’d step up to a 735

Picked up my first kayak. Any tips for a newbie?
I’ve been bound to the bank for years and finally decided to pick up a fishing kayak. Got a Field and Stream Eagle Talon 12’ used for $350 and just need a couple of things before its maiden voyage (paddle mainly). Already has an upgraded seat and some stabilizer floats for standing up and fishing. Any mods/tips for someone starting kayak fishing? Thank you ?

Picking up two new rods
I have used the Tatula and the Tatula Elites. Very very good rods for the price. I will say if your budget is 400 for both I’d pick up 2 rebellions. Criminally underrated rods. Often overlooked for the Tat elites but I like the rebellion a bit better
