  1. At headwaters too. In a vid he said they have to use circle hooks there now when using live bait?
  2. CrashVector posted a topic in Fishing Tackle
Considering ordering a few things from them that I can't find online anywhere else except midway. Anyone use them? How's the shipping times?
  3. https://www.abugarcia.com/pages/abugarcia-ae-grease-oil-maintenance-points The lube port is on the gear side underneath the reel. You should see a small square window. Remove the Phillips screw, and it gives access to the main gear for lubrication. You don't need much at all. I use Rem-Oil in a micro-dropper, and bps red reel grease that comes in a little squeeze tube.
  4. The plx is a great rod no doubt. However, I'd spend the few extra $ and get the plx tournament edition if you're able to. The plx TE rod is my mid-range rod of preference, as it performs above it's price point. I can't comment on the Cara, but it's $250. The TE is $180.
  5. I stand up in my pelican Catch 110 all the time.
  6. All the way to the boat. Always. I've caught a lot of fish 1 foot from my boat.
  7. Not that it's the cause in this case since we don't know, but I DO shake my head at people with 200+hp outboards that brag about their bass boat hitting 75+mph. Why does anyone need a fishing boat that can nearly hit 100mph?! Like you said, things happen really fast on the water. My hydrasports tops out at 63mph. I very rarely do above 45. I tore my right bicep muscle pulling a guy over the side of my boat bc he hit a sandbar at wide open throttle and we had to go rescue him. Because not all boaters are responsible.
  8. First: 20lb braid or heavier. I use 20lb Hercules 8 carrier no fade braid on my baitcasters. Better yet: 12lb/test mono like trilene big game or XL Second: spool tension. Rig up with your preferred rig, and tighten your tension until your bait juuuuust barely falls. Third: brakes. Set them at 50% to start. Fourth: thumb. No matter how your reel is set, getting used to thumbing the spool takes practice. There's only one way to do it: practice I hate to be a gear snob, but he's right.
  9. Lol that's why I mention it so much...it's super versatile.
  10. I snagged a 6foot alligator on my grandpa's heddon wounded minnow. I got him up on the bank, handed my rod to my cousin, and jumped on the gator to get my lure back. I still have the lure, but don't fish with it anymore.
  11. Ned rig, pit boss.
  12. My favorite braid is Hercules no-fade 8 carrier in 20lb.
  13. That's exactly why I asked....never thought about xpress. I looked at Alweld, tracker, etc Thanks for the link
  14. Currently have an 18 foot hydrasports with a 115 Evinrude, but I honestly don't use it much since I got my kayaks. Recently, I've been thinking...since I don't need a big bass boat anymore, how about selling it and buying like a 16 foot jon boat with a small 4-stroker. Looking for suggestions on reputable names for an all-welded hull. Just kinda doing some prelim looking.
  15. Welcome. Congrats on retirement....I hope to get there myself too....someday.
  16. The real shame is that the government allows companies to pollute a certain amount. The problem is when 5,000 companies are all polluting the amount the government says is "okay", it adds up and ends up ruining waterways.
  17. I was planning to take a trip up to caddo lake, and was doing some research of mercury warning levels in Louisiana, and came cross this:
  18. Me. It's practically all I do, and it works well.
  19. East/north winds = cold fronts/high pressure = fish get lockjaw
  20. Likewise. I'm not a fan of catching bass off spawning beds I purposefully throw farther out from the bank if I see fish on beds, or stay away from them if in the kayak. However, I know tons that keep bass caught off beds during spawn.
  21. The question is...what are those characteristics, and which would be the better choice for a more sensitive finesse rod.
  22. I have two pelican kayaks. One pedal, one paddle. They both have their uses, and both are good quality. I paid $1400 for the pedal kayak...$435 for the paddle kayak. I stand and fish in both with little problems.
  23. I buy ned heads, then snip off the hook just past the keeper. I push it into my plastic ned bait, secure it w a small drop of super glue. Then, I use a 1/0 Owner rigging hook and Texas rig it from the other end, leaving the hook point just below the surface. Solved my issues with fish being able to shake off a standard ned hook.
