Mono
I use four monofilaments: Trilene big game: I use 20lb exclusively for catfishing, 10lb for light duty bassing, and 8lb for finesse bassing on a spinning combo. Not currently rigged on any of my spinning combos though. Trilene Sensation: 12lb on a "general" baitcast setup (m/f veritas pls/Revo S), and 6lb on a medium veritas plx/maxpro 20 spinning setup for ultra-finesse. P-Line CX: 6lb moss green on a Pfleuger Trion combo for panfishing. Suffix Tritanium: 10lb dark green on a Shimano symetre spinning combo for general-purpose fishing. My favorites are (in order):. Trilene big game, p-line cx, trilene sensation.

Veritas PLX tournament edition spinning rod broke
Perhaps that IS what the fee is? Yeah, the rod was great to be honest. It retails for $180, and I got it from TW on sale for $140. Yeah, $10 doesn't sound so bad compared to $80...

Veritas PLX tournament edition spinning rod broke
I don't flip fish up to the boat, etc. No idea why it broke. I could see if it snapped at a guide, etc. Don't get me wrong, they gave me zero grief about it, but the rod is like 4 months old... Guess I'm just spoiled by abu's old policy perhaps

Veritas PLX tournament edition spinning rod broke
I'm not a happy camper. I was catching fish left and right using a floating zoom trick worm this afternoon, fishing it over super thick algae and hydrilla. None of the fish were big...prob 1-1.5lbs at the most, but I was having a blast just catching fish. A 1/2lb fish took the worm, and as I was reeling him in, my rod just snapped between the 4th and 5th guides. It's a fast/medium heavy rod. Contacted Abu Garcia. They basically just wanted a copy of the receipt and said they'd send a new rod...BUT....wanted a $9.95 warranty processing fee. This is leaving a bad enough taste in my mouth regarding Abu Garcia that I'm considering switching brands. I shouldn't have to pay anything for a warranty replacement on an obviously defective product. Just venting bc I'm a huge Abu Garcia fan...but not after this.

Hercules braid opinions
I use 20lb Hercules 8-strand in black for frogging. Never had an issue. No line breaks, etc and I've caught a lot of fish with it. The 30lb hercules breaks at like 39 or 40lb, so it should be good to go considering the fact that I throw my 20lb through brush piles, lilly pads, sticks, etc and haven't had one issue horsing a fish out yet. In fact, I liked the hercules braid so much, that it's on all of my reels now except three...two of which are panfish combos and the other is for catfishing. Literally everything else has hercules on it. Nope. I think you'll be a Hercules braid fan after you use it though lol

History and what is this?
I still use river runt spooks on occasion.

Favorite rods: help me choose
Yeah, the "hex" thing seems kinda gimmicky...

Favorite rods: help me choose
I'm trying to decide between two rods: A favorite summit and a favorite hex. Both MH/xFast. The summit is toray 46-ton graphite, which sounds like it would be extremely sensitive. For $50 more, the hex is 30,40, and 46T graphite. Anyone know the reason for the $50 difference?

Retro combos
I've decided to go with a Browning boron pistol grip rod. Mostly bc it was my dad's and he used it in the early-mid 80's. Now...just gotta decide on and then find a reel. My first baitcaster was some old daiwa that my father snagged out the river while catfishing ironically. Early 80's...my dad said it was expensive. It was made for bass fishing. He ordered all the replacement parts in a catalog and rebuilt it. I wore that reel out. I've been watching old retro bass fishing shows on YouTube to try and help me decide which reel to try and track down. NLW? Explain pls...that looks awesome

Retro combos
This is for no other reason than fun. I want to use some equipment that was available back when I got started as a kid ...with my old green aluminum Johnson spincast reel hunting bluegills. Nostalgic fishing...just for the fun memories. I fish because it's fun and relaxing, and figured it would be cool to have a couple retro combos I could bring out.

Retro combos
I am interested in putting together one or a few retro bass combos. 1980's. I've done a bit of research, but obviously there's not a lot of specifics. So...I need your help. Suggest some rods and reels I might be able to get ahold of that are from the 1980's. It'll be for general bass fishing using mono of course.

Catch & Release Vs. Keep and eat
If I want fish to eat, I go catch big bluegills or a few catfish. Bass are okay, and I DO keep some in the 1-3lb range to eat on occasion. The law is the law for a reason. As long as you stay within the limits, then you are 100% good to go,no matter what anyone else thinks.

Best baitcasting reel under $100?
...or $115 for a Revo S.

Best baitcasting reel under $100?
For $100, I'd go Abu Garcia Max Pro. Comes in at $90. The combo with the rod is $120, but I'd forget the crappy rod and get just the reel. Tons of reviews on it say it punches well above its price point.

Difficulty Casting Braid / Leader Combo
That's why I fish with straight braid. Not willing to give up my micro-guided rods

On The Water Etiquette
In reality, I just wouldn't have moved, and would have kept casting to the same place. If the guy who tried to crowd him has a problem with it, he can move.

On The Water Etiquette
Kids were in the boat, so I'd hate to invite him over to the bank, but it's pretty obvious he knew what he was doing was wrong. Hell, he came within spitting distance
