  1. I hear you about the price. I wouldn't have bought it at all except for the 47% discount lol!! That damned little voice in the back of my head going "do it. Don't think about it just do it!" Lol Next up: a new Zenon casting rod. ?‍♂️
  2. I ordered one because the tackle monkey made me. It's a $300 rod that TW had for 47% off, and I couldn't help it. I ordered a 7' MH/XF. Anyone use these? How's the sensitivity?
  3. I just inherited about 2,000 accardo poppers, all still stapled to the big card in their original individual packs lol! I'm just getting into fly fishing myself....it seemed relaxing. So far, it's been equal parts frustration and fun lol
  4. I fish ned rigs a LOT. As in a LOT. I've never had a bass swallow it. 95% of them get hooked right at the top front of the mouth. The majority of the others are corner hooks. The worst culprit for inhaled hooks for me has always been soft swim baits like keitechs.
  5. Um. It's a joke.
  6. I use Hercules no fade 8 carrier braid in 10lb on my bass spinning rods, 20lb on my casting gear, and 40lb on my top water rigs. Hercules is the best braid I've tried. Inexpensive, and doesn't fade at all. Zero problems with it. KastKing Destron in 6lb camo on my ultralight Pflueger Trion panfish combo, and KastKing Destron camo braid in 8lb on my Pflueger Trion medium light panfish combo.
  7. Trilene big game puts em on the bank!
  8. Mine so far this year was just a hair under 8lbs. Caught it right at 11:30AM on a green pumpkin goby colored big TRD rigged with a glued on 1/10oz weight and a 2/0 owner rigging hook. Air temp was 94F, water temp was 90F at the surface (3 inches down). He was in a patch of lilly pads about 20ft in diameter that was sitting off of a point in full sun...about 4 ft deep. I did a rainbow cast into about a 1sq.ft opening right dead center of the lilly pads. Lure hit the bottom, I waited 3-5seconds, and gave it a double twitch. He nailed it about 2 seconds after. Caught him on 10lb braid on a spinning combo. My absolute PB was 10.25lbs. About 3PM. Tossed a Texas rigged Zoom Baby Brush Hog in watermelon green up in a group of cypress trees. Right as I pulled it through the last pair, I felt a really light tap that I almost mistook for a twig or something...then I saw the line move sideways.
  9. I have a couple 1980's boron rods with cork handles that I want to refinish. The cork is in pretty good shape, except for a couple holes. My PLAN is to use some Elmer's wood filler in "golden oak" color to fill the holes then lightly sand it. Is this an appropriate repair...or is there a better/nicer way to do it?
  10. No...the JDM Zenon ltx is the BFS model. The MG7 is a lightweight regular bass reel. It's 4.7oz. it's the same size as my US market Revo MGX...which is a tad smaller than the Revo S/SX, etc. I pulled drag trying to pull a huge mass of hydrilla in today with it lol...which prompted this post. The MGX or any other Revo I use would've reeled it in no problem.
  11. Just curious what everyone thinks an acceptable minimum drag pressure is. I have a reel with just 8.8lbs of drag, and frankly, it's way too light. Great reel otherwise though. I usually prefer 15lbs. Just curious what everyone else's preferences are.
  12. All this talk about how to care for them right after a thread about people setting the hook so hard that they will pull a bass out of the water on the hookset...
  13. Stick with the standard polarized ones. I see no difference in these lenses and regular polarized ones.
  14. I was trying to figure that out myself. The X advertises being made of a 36/40ton graphite mix. The Premier has nothing that says what kind of graphite....but I'm highly partial to cork handles, so I'm probably going to pick up a premier just for that reason.
  15. I use the Abu Garcia Fantasista X and Veritas tournament edition rods for bottom contact lures
  16. Fishing the exact same spots despite not catching something in that spot, but because I caught fish there ONE time, I keep trying
  17. Never understood why some fishermen set the hook like they're trying to do the clean and jerk in an Olympic weightlifting competition. You kept swinging away while I was on the boat with you, and you'd never be in my boat again. It's a fish that at most...weighs 13lbs. There's zero need to jerk so hard your lure comes through 3 feet of water with enough force to fly 20-30feet at 20mph.
  18. It's rare that I even use a crankbait, but when I do, it's on 12lb Berkley sensation.
  19. I fish similar techniques on both setups, to me, the weight is what decides it. The only exception being a pit boss on a 3/0 EWG with a 1/8oz weight. I'll throw that on both, but only in a pinch. Spinning, I tend to use for ned rigs, floating worms, weightless Texas rigs, etc. Anything with 1/8oz or heavier goes on a baitcaster.
  20. That's an often overlooked detail I appreciate. It's a small thing, but it DOES annoy me when I can feel the threads on the reel seat. I've debated on it. The only thing that's stopping me is that with the Abu Garcia and g. Loomis rods, I know what kind of sensitivity I'm paying for already. When I'm spending $400-$500 for just a rod, I want to feel a minnow fart on my line.
  21. I use 1/8 and 1/16 the most.
