  1. There are several yt vids on how to find the rod spine. Also..casting rods are generally built w the guides on the spine.
  2. I'm a big Abu Garcia fan. If you're talking about the white veritas plx rods, I'd say skip them, in my opinion. The tournament edition veritas rods out perform the white sticks by a huge margin. If the dobyn's rods are the same price as the white veritas rods, I'd go dobyn's to be honest....at that says a LOT coming from me considering 80% of my gear is Abu. I don't know about all that. The higher end Abu rods are certainly competitive. Especially the tournament edition and Fantasista x rods.
  3. Hundreds of tournaments, prevalence of LiveScope users, etc.
  4. It's a decent entry level setup yes. I would have chosen a bit more high end rod if it were me.
  5. Hercules 12 strand. I use it in camo and gray colors. Super smooth.
  6. I have three of em. They're my workhorse reels. Two 3rd gen and one 4th gen. Never had a single problem with any of them, and I fish 3-4 days a week.
  7. I use mostly spinning reels, but I started fishing on spincasters. I DO use baitcasters, but honestly, it's whatever you're comfortable with.
  8. I use Hercules 8strand no fade braid in 20lb test on baitcasters, and 10lb on my spinning reels. The color on Amazon says "green". Mono lines ARE more abrasion resistant than braid. I never use fluorocarbon. Period. Most of the marketing garbage on it has been disproven. People say fluoro stretches less than mono. Not true. They say it's invisible in water. Not true. They say it's more sensitive than mono. Not true. Like I said, there's literally hundreds of videos on YouTube proving these things as false, yet some people still buy into the b.s. The only thing fluoro does better than nylon is drain your wallet faster. I use straight braid. If I use a mono line, I use nylon. For bass, the only time I use mono is if I'm using a swimbait, chatterbait, or spinnerbait. Everything else gets straight braid. I'm going kayak fishing tomorrow. I'm bringing a 7' MH/F Abu Garcia veritas TE spinning rod with a 3000 size Revo SX reel. Loaded with 10lb Hercules 8 strand no fade braid in green. I have it set up for wacky rigging. It's all I plan on doing tomorrow.
  9. Not to me it doesn't. Others will swear you can't catch fish unless you're using fluorocarbon line. I disagree. I use 20lb 8strand Hercules no fade braid in low vis green. Fluorocarbon is a garbage waste of money line in my opinion.
  10. What do you mean? I know how to catch bass. Using no leader hasn't affected how many fish I catch. I primarily am a finesse fisherman. I use soft plastics. A lot. Mostly the power bait pit boss.
  11. I haven't noticed that it matters. All I use is straight braid and I catch plenty.
  12. I never use leaders. Other never fish without them. Braid is visible to fish, yes. So is fluorocarbon.
  13. They sell brown. I buy it from Amazon.
  14. That's why I settled on the Hercules no fade. 4 or 8 strand, never fades, and works like braid should for less $ than braids that turn white after one trip.
  15. None of the above. I use ONLY Hercules no fade braid
  16. I think they're decent, but the crappie Maxx Pro rods from bps are better. I have a 4'6", a 5'6" and a 6'6" one. It's not the old model...the newer ones come in shorter lengths.
  17. I have two of these rods. Honestly, just get the new Crappie Maxx Pro rods. They're every bit as good for 1/3 the price. I promise you.
  18. Don't go the route I did and spend $1500 trying different rods/reels ? Just go get one of the new BPS Crappie Maxx Pro rods for $40 and be glad. I'm not kidding...they outperform some of my $200 crappie rods from st croix. I have a 4'6", a 5'6", and a 6'6" version. Shoulda just bought these to begin with and I would have saved a LOT of money.
  19. I've really been getting into crappie fishing the last two years, and have spent a little over $1500 on specialized equipment for it. From a couple of the the $130 13 fishing omen 36T graphite rods to the Lew's light spinning rods to pflueger Trion combos. I'll be honest with you: the $40 Crappie Max Pro rods at BPS are every bit as good. I now own three, along with three pflueger trion combos. Reels: Pflueger president xt in size 20 with 8lb hercules no fade braid. Pflueger Supreme size 30: 4lb test Mr crappie in camo color Pflueger Trion size 20: same as the xt Pflueger Trion size 25: BPS 2lb test clear Excel
  20. Guy on YouTube just did a recent full test of all the major fluoro brands.
  21. That's how I feel about it too. Last time I got checked, out of 15 or 16 people fishing from the bank at the lake I was at, I was the only person who DID have a license.
  22. Yeah, I was sorta thinking that about the Fuse to be honest, but wanted others' opinions. The $450 price puts it in the ultra-premium range for me.
  23. Any users of either or both of these models? Opinions? 46T graphite tends to make me believe they'd be very light and sensitive.
  24. I prefer micros for the reasons glen stated.
