Gamakatsu g-lock worm hooks
Yep ..I have the point in the bait ready to come out on a hook set.

Gamakatsu g-lock worm hooks
It was a Texas rigged big trd. For the record though, the thin wire 3/0 gamakatsu ewg hook is what I use on my pit Boss lures, and it has a nearly 100% hookup rate.

Gamakatsu g-lock worm hooks
The ones I had are 3/0. I could see the fish hit my lure. I set the hook, and they'd just spit it four times in a row. Swapped to the "normal" gamakatsu 3/0 EWG and didn't miss a single one after that. Glad they work for you, but I definitely will not be buying any more of those

Gamakatsu g-lock worm hooks
Okay...congrats? I'm just saying... You were the one implying that ewg hooks have a poor hookup ratio.

Rod action and power when fishing from kayak

Lures for first outing of year
I'm in LA as well. I was tearing them up on a green pumpkin 4" berkley pit boss and a "molting craw" colored Z-Man Big TRD yesterday...and will be doing the same today in about an hour lol I caught a dozen. Basically, I was throwing out onto grassy flats about 3ft deep. Most hits were on the initial fall. Largest fish yesterday was just shy of 4lbs, but there were a lot of fish hitting.

Gamakatsu g-lock worm hooks
Not all of them...just the g-locks. The regular EWG gamakatsu are awesome. Because I have a 95%+ hookup ratio using EWG hooks.

Gamakatsu g-lock worm hooks
Bought some Friday, used them for the first time today. I missed four fish in a row. Good bites, good hooksets, but couldn't get em. The lures were balled up and such, but no fish. Swapped back to my standard EWG hook and didn't miss a single fish for the rest of the day. Just a heads up.

Repeated cold fronts are really messing with my mojo
Yeah man...they're gonna be pushing up this coming week for SURE. You bet your ass I'm gonna be fishing...rain or not lol

When do you use braid and when do you use straight fluorocarbon?
Try hercules no fade 8 carrier braid. It'll change your mind like it did mine. I hate fluoro, but was a die hard mono guy until I tried hercules braid.
-
When do you use braid and when do you use straight fluorocarbon?
Being as I never use fluorocarbon, all of my reels with braid are used without leaders. Gin clear water I use straight braid for everything, including Ned rigs.

Repeated cold fronts are really messing with my mojo
I'll be fishing in the rain. Lol

Conundrum: keep a secret place to myself?
I find em. Getting them to bite is a whole different question lol

Conundrum: keep a secret place to myself?
I video about 1/3rd of where I fish on purpose. I don't want the bucket brigade coming out and littering up my favorite spots. Plus, I located a BIG fish...at least a 10lb bass. I know exactly where she's hanging out, but couldn't get her to bite on anything yesterday despite the fact that I could SEE her there. I'm not posting anything about it until after she's caught and released. Even then, I won't post the exact location. I NEVER keep bass I catch during the spawn. Too many others in my area will keep anything they reel in...from 4oz to 12 pounds...spawn or no..they don't care, so I'm not gonna post videos of where the big bass are actively spawning. I keep that to myself.

Repeated cold fronts are really messing with my mojo
...or made them feel better about it. I'm honestly genuinely super ticked off man...that was an awesome run. Holy cow....yeah..that's pretty bad.

Repeated cold fronts are really messing with my mojo
I was KILLING em the last two days! 8 fish yesterday, 13 today. Largest was 7.15lbs, caught today on a green pumpkin 4" powerbait pit boss with a 5/16oz black tungsten weight pegged to the lure. Anyhow, NOW there's gonna be a strong cold front tomorrow morning to come shut things down. Im SO ticked. I was finally having a GREAT run of catches, and the weather's gonna ruin it lol The wind was HEAVY...steady at 15-18mph, gusts to 25. Whitecaps on the lake. I was blind casting into really heavy hydrilla/fillamentous algae mats and hoping to hit small open pockets. It worked. I was working hard for em, but I was catching em. Now, I'm just throwing a temper tantrum over the weather lol

There's this question I have been wanting to ask for a long time
Fiance and I don't do v day. She says it's "cheap and contrived to force men to spend money". Besides, she gets flowers on the regular every few weeks bc she deserves it on more than just one day per year.
-
There's this question I have been wanting to ask for a long time
The challenge...the getting out in nature...the cool crisp air, etc. It's more than one thing.
-
Mid-day Bite
Statistically speaking, a larger percentage of bass are caught between 10am and 2pm than morning and evenings.

Regular and Mod Fast Tapers
I'm an Abu Garcia fanboy, so I'd be partial to the veritas rods. I own several, and they perform well above their price point.

When would you choose Shakey head over TR?
Less vegetation/grass/snags = shakey head. More grass/limbs/etc = Texas rig I tend to throw shakey head in ponds more often. In bayous/canals/etc where I'm looking for structure, I'd choose the Texas rig for its ability to come through that more easily. A sweet beaver on a shakey head is money.
