AWESOME old fishing videos
I could watch these 80's fishing shows all day lol! It's a good way to pick up on some techniques that are overlooked nowadays. Back then, it was cutting edge, but 40 years later, a lot of it gets "bypassed" for newer stuff. Going backwards can be an advantage imo...using lures and techniques rarely used anymore can present something to pressured fish that they've not seen or gotten used to yet.

AWESOME old fishing videos
I fish a lot of old school lures...lots of vintage heddon, smithwick, and arbogast lures, etc. I also use tube baits a lot, so it was fun to watch a whole show from the 80's about tubes when they first came out lol Looks like he adds new ones every so often...

AWESOME old fishing videos
I stumbled on a REALLY cool YouTube channel that I've been binge watching lol! The channel is "Old School Bass Fishing Vids". It has a lot of classic fishing videos from the 80's and 90's. Just figured a few people here would be interested.

Tube bite is heating up here in the south
I use bang pure craw spray to lube all my bottom baits. I'll try the pegged sinker...having the jig head inside the tube I figured would cut down on all the algae it picked up. I was WRONG lol!

Tube bite is heating up here in the south
We are still getting pretty strong cold fronts that screw things up, but the weather is rebounding in between. The second day temps slide up into the mid-upper 60's, the bass push back up into the shallow weeds/algae. Tube baits have been getting me some pretty decent fish in the weeds. Largest so far this year is 3.75lbs, but that's pretty decent for early Feb. I usually use vmc tube bait jig heads in 1/8oz bc I can rig it weedless like a Texas rig....using a 4.5inch Powerbait Power Tube in green pumpkin goby. They still pick up a lot of salad with pretty much every cast though. Anyone have any tube jig tricks?

CAUTION when reading ROD and REEL purchaser reviews
I have yet to have one of my side plates to just fall off. Hell, I have to work at it to get them to come off to clean the thing.
-
CAUTION when reading ROD and REEL purchaser reviews
Lol...that's why I invalidate reviews like that My Garcia Revos are a good example....people in reviews talking about stripped gears or cracked side plates. Like tf are you doing to your reels? Mine have been flawless. When I review items I buy on yt, I'm careful to give an HONEST review that includes how long and under what conditions I use it. I'm not there to hype anything, but I'm not there to crap on anything either unless it truly was a disaster....which nothing I bought has been as of yet. The closest thing to negative I've reviewed was my Symetre combo...which I still use a lot. The rods aren't sensitive, but they're not worthless for sure.

Would you purposefully keep a spawning fish?
I get it. It's kinda how I feel about people eating bass. As long as you have a license, aren't doing anything illegal, and are obeying size and creel limits, then go right ahead. There are limits/season dates for a reason. As long as all the rules are being followed, I have no problem with it.

Recent mono quality
Sensation has a decent amount of memory. I use it frequently, but the memory is worse than say XL. Truth.

Frogs in HEAVY weeds
Good ideas from everyone. I do get the water out after every cast bc I can throw it better. I think my problem is the spot I was fishing to be honest. That particular area ALWAYS has very thick grass and algae that never seems to die off no matter how cold it gets, and this same thing happened to me in this spot last year. I moved 100 yards away to a less thick spot and ended up catching the next three no problem. All four fish I missed, I reeled in a huge pile of grass and algae. I'm gonna take everyone's advice though. Bend the hooks ever so slightly, etc. I can't do straight up hook sets bc of my arm, so I do either sets to the 2 or 10 o clock.

Frogs in HEAVY weeds

It was a small frog. I trimmed the "legs" just in case.

Frogs in HEAVY weeds
That's what I do. I was SURE I had the big boy lol! Huge splash, biiig pull on the line, I set the hell out of it, he pulls back. Two seconds later, he spit out the whole lump. My frog was buried in a pile of hydrilla and fillamentous algae

Frogs in HEAVY weeds
Yesterday, I missed three 4+lb fish on a top water frog because the fish hit the lure, but got a mouth full of grass instead. I waited and set the hook HARD because I knew I'd have to get thru all the grass to hook them, to no avail. The fish spit out the grass, and my frog along with it. I get that it's just a part of fishing top water, but anyone have any secrets to minimize this? Personally, I tend to wait a hair longer than usual to let the fish get a good grip on the frog, but obviously, catch percentage goes way down when the fish has 2lbs of weeds in its mouth too.

Would you purposefully keep a spawning fish?
Don't get me wrong, I don't care if people eat bass. For ME, it's just about catching them. If I wanna eat fish I catch, I go after bluegill, which are my favorite. It's as simple as "I like bluegill better, so why eat something I like less when I can just catch what I prefer?"

Why are swimbait heads so pricey?
I value honesty above all else. I'd support a guy who actually went on and said "Y'know....(company x) makes a lot of decent products, but this one....sucks."

Jig/Trailer Combos and how they look in the water
Yep. Tube baits are very versatile. Bos brand named ones are pretty decent imo, and I use the magnum flipping tube a lot.

No

How many rod brands do you use?
Three. 1 old Shakespeare supreme I got as a combo from k-mart 20 years ago for $20. Shimano All of the rest of my rods are Abu Garcia. So...13 total.
