How many rod brands do you use?

Featured Replies

I'm going through my rods/reels to pass the time up here in freezing New England.  Winter makes me absolutely stir crazy and I blame winter for my recent irresponsible financial transactions at TW for stuff I really don't need.  Anyway...

My question - how many different rod brands do you use?  Do you stick with one brand, two, or just whatever "feels" right, assuming you're fortunate enough to find a rod in stock at your local tackle shop that you can get your hands on instead of buying online.  I like all the stuff I use, but I use 6-7 different rod brands and as most of you know there can sometimes be a difference in power and/or action from one brand to another.  I'm thinking of selling some off and replacing with one brand for more consistency throughout.

I'm not trying to start a debate about who make the best rods, just seeing how many different brands you guys use.  Thanks

I try to be fairly consistant

A couple years ago, it was mainly Diawa with a couple Dobyns

Now it's half Dobyns, 1/4 Diawa and 1/4 Okuma

Brand doesn't matter to me really.  I want a rod for the job at hand.  Right now I have Robyn's, st croix, Shimano and a couple ducketts in my conventional gear.  My fly rods I am slightly more brand loyal but I have TFO & Sage right now.

I own 9 rods. 6 different brands

Dobyns, St. Croix, Shimano, Abu and a couple of BPS sticks. There are so many good rod brands that you really can’t go wrong as long as you get one with the specs that fit your needs

I have bps brands, 2 different dobyns lines 2 different lines of  falcon rods and a shimano rod.  I’ve only been fishing somewhat seriously for a few years. Still working out what types of rods fit my somewhat developing style of fishing. So far I like  everything I’ve got to try.

So I guess that’s 4 different brands.

Im not committed to one brand, I currently have 5 different brands. The main thing is they all work.

OK so it looks like most have some variety in their arsenal.  Especially you new2BC4bass, you're my new idol lol.  I was thinking it was only me.  I have a Shimano, a St. Croix, a Loomis, 2 going on 3 Dobyns, 2 Kistler, and a Fenwick.  Thanks for all the replies

I have a half dozen or more brands, but I acquired those while trying to find a manufacturer and line that I really liked.

The main reason I try to stick with one or two rod makers and the same line within that brand is simple: With no industry standard on power and action, and the majority of my purchases being online, I can order a rod with minimal guess work in what I am going to receive.

I have rods from Shimano, G. Loomis, St. Croix, Quantum, Megabass, 13 Fishing, and Abu Garcia.  If it feels good, I will fish it.

Let me think - St. Croix, Shimano, Dobyns, Lew's, Duckett, BPS, and Shakespeare.

The St. Croix and Shimano I bought online because of reputation. I actually haven't tried out my Shimano Expride yet. The rest I bought after picking them up in the store.

i’m very brand loyal to daiwa. not just because of my OCD, but also because i like to know and be confident in how each rod is going to feel when they are in my hands. whether it’s sensitivity, rod tip, action, or weight.
