  1. Seems like most people peg the weight when fishing through cover, which is why I started doing it. Then, I found that I could detect light taps easier on worms with pegged weights, but maybe it's in my head
  2. Just curious what you guys do. I tend to peg weights when I'm fishing beaver-style baits, and let the weight slide on stick baits and worms, etc However, I've found myself starting to peg those more often too. No idea why to he honest...maybe just habit since my lure of choice is a pit boss or modified ned rig, and maybe I'm just used to having the weight tight to the lure.
  3. I can relate. I just went back to working weekends only after busting my hump in the ER during the pandemic.
  4. Yes, that's from reeling in a very slack line. I fish swimbaits on the surface using a spinning reel all the time.
  5. Today's catch:
  6. Just curious because z-man released an article saying that their lures will absorb scents.
  7. Powerbait Pit boss has been murdering em out my way the last few weeks...and yes, I never add scent to any powerbait lures
  8. I've used plenty of the Yamamoto stuff. Perhaps it's just bc the zero is stretchy that it looks like a bag of salt...
  9. It's sink rate and to make a biting fish hang on I would assume. The zero just seems to have WAY more salt than say a Z-Man zinker.
  10. I've read through about adding scent to custom made poured lures, but what about purchased ones...like from Yum or Strike King? Since I put my soft plastics in a storage box, I regularly spray them down with Bang spray, mostly to keep them lubricated. However, I've noticed that z-man lures seemed to soak up the spray or even pro cure or liquid mayhem. Do conventional PVC based soft plastics absorb scents in the same way?
  11. Got a pack of these stick baits from bps a few days ago in dirt color. Seems they have a TON of salt in them. I stretched them, and there's so much salt that the lure stayed lengthened. I know why lure companies add salt, but do they need to add THAT much?!
  12. Sorry I didn't reply to any of you guys, it was telling me that I had reached the maximum number of posts for a day and I couldn't reply to anything. However, thanks for the warm welcome
  13. I fish all over...from lake palourde to Sherburne to a small creek that I see that I think might hold fish lol
  14. My personal MVL is as follows: Z-Man finesse TRD in green pumpkin goby. I buy the 1/8 Oz Z-Man Ned head, and snip off the hook right behind the keeper. Shove it into the bait, and use a tiny dab of super glue to hold it. Then, I tie on a 1/0 Owner rigging hook, and rig it up on the opposite end. I've used this setup to catch fish when literally NO ONE else was even getting a nibble.
  15. Finesse fishing is practically all I do for bass. There's really no difference in shallow vs deep finesse fishing besides the weights. You can successfully use finesse techniques on a baitcaster if you're fishing that deep bc you need heavier weights anyhow. I'd toss out, let it hit the bottom, then twitch, reel up a bit, and let the lure "pendulum swing" back towards you. This can easily be don't on a baitcaster using a bed rig, shakey head, etc.
  16. What Mike said. I'd fish the edges first, looking for "points" or indented sections. Then, I'd toss in a jig or pit boss into the holes, then swim a frog over the thick stuff.
  17. I have a Curado DC that I bought for my fiance to use in her kayak. I paired it with an Abu Garcia SilverMax med.heavy rod. It's a 24ton modulus rod from a SilverMax combo. She absolutely loves the setup, and I've used it a few times as well and think it's a good fit.
  18. I used P-Line cx for years, then realized it had no real advantages in real-world conditions over Berkley Trilene XL. In my humble opinion however, Berkley Sensation is superior to all three. The P-Line cx was thin for lb/test, had good knot strength, was fairly limp. Same for the Sufix. Same for the Berkley Trilene.
  19. I've been a long time reader of this forum, so I decided to join. Figured I've gotten lots of good info here for a while, so I wanted to contribute. I fish mostly for bream and bass, with occasional catfishing. Since you can tell a lot about a fisherman from the equipment he uses, here's my arsenal: Abu Garcia rods and reels, Berkley big game or Sensation mono, sufix ProMix braid, Pelican kayaks, and I'm a Berkley PowerBait soft plastics fanatic. I primarily use finesse techniques for bass, utilizing soft plastics because I find it more entertaining/relaxing. For bass, I'm not out to catch a ton. If I'm bass fishing, I'm just enjoying myself and relaxing. If I want fish to eat, it's almost always bream. I tend to catch and release bass unless they're gill or eye hooked. Tight lines everyone!!
  20. Sifix ProMix braid is the only braid that I've found that I actually liked. I've tried literally everything. Power pro, power pro V2, fireline, spiderwire, etc. The suffix stuff is my favorite by FAR. Somehow, it feels rougher than the power pro V2, but much quieter going thru the guides. It also hasn't lost any of its color and I've been using it for 2 months.
