  1. Maybe your having the same problem as me. I was using braided line with no backing and i had the same drag problem. If thats not it then maybe its something else that someone on this forum told me. They said you need to reset your drag. Make it loose, and make the brake system loose, and cast then retrieve and then that should do the trick. I never tried it but he said it works.
  2. i've just used the citica because my cousin owns one. I have a pflueger trion but im sure the president feels better. But i like the citica over the trion (dont know if it helps u). The curado is real nice, its one of my favorites for the money.
  3. gamakatsu skip gap 3/0
  4. Im also a big shimano guy. I have a few of the new curados but i usually like using the 100D, i've always liked the smaller sizes. I usually throw em on a shimano clarus or carbomax. I know there better rods but i really never had one break. They are very light and very durable. I just dont see why i should switch, you should try some shimano equiptment. All the other brands are great, but i just got brought up on shimano and i love it.
  5. I would definitely go with the shimano sahara, i know its a little over your budget but i own a couple myself and they work great. Has a real smooth drag and a 6.0:1 gear ratio. Or you can go with the shimano sedona ($49.99), its basically the same except your looking at a 5.2:1 gear ratio. I do own a few of both that i use for different kinds of fish species and they work great. I have also used em in saltwater and have caught sheephead, barracuda, perch, calico, sandbass... etc and they perform real great. I know there not the best but they perform very well and can take a nice beating.
  6. i used vanish also for my baitcasting reel, had the same exact problem that u had. I have used a number of lines on my baitcasting reels and never had such a problem. Just for the record im very good with baitcasting reels so i know it wasnt me. I've read threads on this forum where most people dislike vanish. But what do u expect for 10 dollar line? Just keep it away from baitcasting reels.
  7. i have just been fishing straight braid with no fluoro and i been fishing murky water going about 6-12 ft. The strikes were great but keep in mind that braid floats so if your trying to hit the bottom faster add the fluoro leader. I havent fished fluoro leader long enough to tell u how well it works but im sure if your texas rigging or carolina rigging the fluoro would be the way to go. Right now im fishing pure crankbaits and jerkbaits and braid is what im happy with. Especially when stuck in structure i love how i can pull the whole branch out of the water without loosing my lures. Hope this kinda helps you out.
  8. My curado 100D doesnt have the holes so i have to wrap the line around the spool and tie a knot then reel the line. Is it the same as putting it through the holes though? I never really tried that i just wrap it around the spool even if it has holes.
  9. I remember casting a swimbait overhead to see how far i can cast it and it was making some huge splashes, then i just went with the sidearm cast and it reduced the splash to 50%
  10. shimano does D and DSV cuz DSV always holds alittle more line than D so it has a deeper spool for extra line.
  11. sufix siege 10 or 12# or sufix braid 20-30#
  12. yea that knob is going to be ur best friend for a while... or at least it was mine for a good amount of time. Once you get the hang of it, you wont even bother adjusting the knob because most of the time it'll be loose. Have lots of fun thats the most important part.
  13. i did the same thing, i went to 20 and 30 lb sufix braid, but i usually do sidearm casting because its just quicker for me, and im real acurate this way. every now and then i overhead cast. I fish sword of light, i like using the shimano curado 100 D or DSV, my pflueger trion is bigger so i have 50 lb braid on that but i cant cast as far with it.
  14. yea reelmech u were right about the backing because when i went to work i looked at the power pro braid we sell and it had a booklet. It did say to either put the tape on the barrel or put mono backing. I never did this because my sufix braid doesnt come with a booklet and i was a first time braid user to i never did this. I did respool the way u told me using mono backing and it did make the drag alot tighter. THanks alot for ur help
  15. really? so basically all u did was loosen the drag all the way, and same with the brake system, and just cast a lure out and retrieve it back in? Ill try that see what results i get.
  16. thanks i just put mono backing (same diam. as braid) i did about 1/3 of backing and the rest of braid. Obviously i noticed no matter how tight your drag is your always going to be able to pull some line, but it sure made a big difference with mono backing.
  17. koo thanks alot for ur help, what # test would be good and about how many yards
  18. if i respool with backing would that fix the problem? or am i screwed
  19. yea i have 30 lb sufix braid, and no backing
  20. I've had my shimano curado 100 dhsv for about 2 months used it a few times and yesterday i went bass fishing and had a 4 lb fish and my drag was tight and the fish was still taking my line. I would reel in harder and it wouldnt reel in much line. I noticed my drag wasnt working. Its only been used like 4-5 times, i can literally have the drag tight, and pull line out fairly easy. Just want to know if i can fix this problem myself to avoid taking it to shimano.
  21. You might want to give Maxima ultragreen line a chance. has excellent abrasion resistant, low memory, low stretch, low visibility we spool this line alot down here in southern california, not to mention works very well with baitcasting reels.
  22. just curious over this, in what ocasion would u use that set up? i just never tried that b4 and wondered.. thanks

thats a nice selection, what brand and how much did u spend? (if you dont mind sharing)

Thats exactly the same cranks i use the Rapala Shad raps, of course i have different assortments of them. I work at SportsAuthority down here in southern california so were not huge on bass fishing like out there in the south and east areas. I try to buy brands that we cary in the store cuz i get a nice discount, and sometimes we have buy 1 get 2nd 50% off plus my discount so thats when i go crazy. I just wondered if im missing out on other types of brands, i watch the fishing channel every single day and i see all the pros using different lures so i wondered if i should try out the high end brands. THANKS ALOT GUYS!!! All this info means alot to me, thanks for your time i really appreciate it!
