  1. E7 is much better for all around use.
  2. Although I haven't fished Steez reels, I prefer my STXs to my Zillions, Fuegos, and SOL any day. I don't think he's "Down" grading much at all. Although I'm sure the Steez is in a league of it's own, given the price difference.
  3. I will go ahead and get one as soon as possible and let you know what I think of them. I'm planning on grabbing a 735.
  4. I haven't personally held one yet. But I have spoken to Gary about them and if you know what kind of guy he is, he wants perfection. He designed these rods to be the absolute best mid $100 rod on the market. From what I have heard from him and a few others, they balance as well as the Champions.
  5. They should be in stores and online stores by the end of this month. Search youtube there is a video of one .
  6. No, the biggest rod they will have is the 766, the rod you got is exactly what is needed to get the job done that we talked about. The G1 rods have a carbon fiber type look where the logo is above the reel seat. The G2 rods do not. *** has only the newer G2 rods , as do most places.
  7. Gary has come out with a new lineup of rods called the Savvy Series. 4 Spinning and 9 Bait Casting rods. Retailing for $149.99 to $169.99. They will be out later this month. Just wanted to give a heads up to anyone who may be looking for a very solid rod in the $150 price range and has been wanting to get their hands on a Dobyns rod.
  8. After listening to everyone on here, I purchased a 5:1 slow speed reel for DD22 and other deep diving crankbaits. I couldn't stand it, way too slow even for dd22's for my taste. Randy McAbee throws a LOT of deep diving crankbaits and uses a 7:1 all day while doing it. I went ahead and tried it, and really it wasn't as bad as guys make it out to be. Go with the E7, it's much better all around, and you'll do just fine with Dd22's when you do throw them!
  9. Not a problem, glad to help. Make sure to post up some fish when you get on em!
  10. STX, hands down. The added drag is a major plus when pulling fish from heavy cover.
  11. $200 each or $200 for both? *** has free shipping and no tax outside of CA. The dobyns are just a hair shy over $200 each.
  12. Average price range doesn't give a real price.. If $200-$230ish is ok. Check out Dobyns rods. They make an 8ft Cranking rod (805CB) , you'll be able to cast a crankbait a mile. As for weightless worms, are you talking Senkos and such which still weigh in at 1/2oz or so, or very light weightless worms? If you're talking senkos, the Dobyns 734 is amazing. Can be used for much more then just senkos as well.
  13. I sold my GLoomis MBR844C GLX (yes GLX) and replaced it with a Dobyns 734 Extreme. Never thought twice, or looked back. Very happy. Two years ago I wanted to use only one type of rods, I went through the same thing, I went through several rods and finally landed on Dobyns. I now have over 15 and couldn't be happier.
  14. Not on your list of what you're looking at. But figured I'd throw this out there. I use a Dobyns 702S for shaky heading, I got it for the soul purpose to shaky head. Awesome rod, and very fun to fight fish on. Very sensitive, light and well balanced. It's a little under your max limit and well worth it.
  15. There are TWO 705 Glass Rods, so please pay attention to that when you're ready to make your decision. One is a fast tip and one is a moderate tip. Both have good give which is what is ideal for cranking, but one just has a bit faster tip. I have the fast tip Glass 705 and absolutely love it. I don't throw lipless cranks, but I do throw Ripbaits, Crankbaits, and Spinnerbaits on it, all with no problem, all up to 3/4oz and in weeds as well.
  16. I have 7 or 8 STX's and absolutely love them. Nothing compares to them in my mind. The drag alone is incredible.
  17. Frogs I really like a 7'3 XH rod. I use a Dobyns 736. For flipping and pitching I like a 7'6 rod. I use a Dobyns 765 for this. Definitely look into a rod 7'3 or 7'6 and with a good back bone.
  18. That's about all I fished this past summer, throwing 1 1/2oz t-rig baits into heavy heavy stuff. I love the Dobyns 805 punch rod. It's 8 ft long, and it's strong as hell. Lightest 8ft rod, I fished it 8-10hours a day straight, and did it many times a week all summer. Great great rod. My biggest fish with it was 9lbs4oz, pulled her out of some very thick stuff. They run just a hair shy over $200 but well worth it when you see how light and well balanced they are.
  19. For frogs, bump it up to at least a 5 power. The longer the better IMO, especially for frogs. Making long casts and trying to set the hook with a frog a mile out there can be a less then effective. I fish Dobyns rods, but they make the same lengths. I fish a 736 with my frogs in heavy weeds, and if I'm specifically fishing open water, I use a 765 just to make some long casts .
  20. Dobyns 765. Its a 7Ft 6In flippin stick. Awesome jig rod that can also double as a frog rod, trig rod, etc.
  21. Should definitely match it with a HIGH SPEED reel, STX 7.1, Curado E7, Zillion 7.1, etc...
  22. Dobyns 795 / Revo STX / 65lb Braid / 25lb CXX Leader
  23. It's great stuff, the 55 is the most versatile braid I've seen, and I use 80 on my punch setup and absolutely love it.
  24. I use a Dobyns 736 for frogs. Absolutely love it. The 735 is good too, but I fish a lot of heavy stuff and like the added power to horse them out. Perfect length, and very well balanced. If you get the 735, you can also use it for jigs, t-rigs, spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, just about anything. The 736 is a good jig rod as well. They're all extremely light. Good luck.
