  1. my money. I have a budget but with the right justification I can consider options and upgrades. and yes it’s a storm. I have a 20’ garage and wanted a rod locker. That brings it down to about 3 or 4 boats that work, new or used. The dealer has a 1600 they are trying to clear out well under MSRP such that a new boat will be very close to a used boat price and I’ll have the full history. I’m team humminbird/minn kota.
  2. Hi Gents it’s silly season for a lot of us. I’ve got 8” of ice everywhere. The current forecast isn’t conducive to ice out before march and it might even be April ala @A-Jay latitudes. Ive loved my autopilot. It’s a phenomenal fishing machine between autopilot, the stability, and the overall platform. But, on the 500+ acre lakes the travel time is tough. You can work around it but it’s tough. And loading and unloading everything each trip gets old. So I’m buying a boat. I’ve talked about it here and in-depth with a couple of you (thanks!). I’ve looked at options and availability. And I’ve settled on a crestliner. I have a tiny garage and i want a rod locker. Based on what fits, this is what we’re doing. So, 16’ aluminum crestliner with a 9.9. How are you rigging it out? Trolling motor? Electronics? Accessories? Other? I have a good idea what I’m doing but what say you? What would you rig? I may or may not include it in the final built but it’s winter and I’m paying. Rick
  3. and the lakers backups without Luka or LeBron just beat a pretty decent pacers team. They didn’t look exciting or explosive, but if a bunch of backups and second tier guys can do that it’s pretty optimistic. Then add those two on top…
  4. very true around here. Weedy natural lakes for the most part. Plenty of pads, milfoil, and pondweed. I stayed off the heavier rods for a while, but then once you start fishing one you realize how much easier it makes a lot of things.
  5. I also prefer humminbird side imaging to the point that I deal with ml1 and keep the better side imaging and familiarity. Mega live 2 looks like it closes most of the gap to garmin so if the explore units are as good as they look that’s a no brainer for me.
  6. The HCJ also makes a pretty good rod for slinging 1/2 oz chatterbaits a looong way and covering water. Big flat? Go for it.
  7. “Go bigger, go smaller”- that’s my plans for this year. I started with 6” magdrafts and Ned’s last year after not really fishing either much before. I liked both. The first part of that plan (with respect to falcon) is coming together. I used the 10% off gift card plus 20% off everything sale to get a Cara big bait rod for $180 real dollars. I used the eye crosser and the amistad to throw the magdrafts last year (regular and freestyle with a 3/8 hook). Both worked but you had to work a little harder than you’d think. The big bait is 7’9”, 1-5oz, and full rear grip. Nominally a 7 power and heavy/fast. I’ve only done a little lawn casting with a freestyle, but I am going to like it. Compared to the amistad, I think they’ve added 6” of power to the butt and powered up the bottom half, but then ‘stretched’ the top half by 3”. I bet they have the same tip size and measurements in the top 12” of the rod, but it’s better supported and smoother than the amistad for heavier stuff. Can’t wait to get it on the water.
  8. with braid you can get by as a Carolina rig rod, but if you’re planning to drag a half ounce and a chunk you can do better in the falcon lineup.
  9. for a warranty replacement they will let you upgrade for the retail difference. On just a rod? You’d have to call or email and ask.
  10. probably hit reply a couple times before it refreshed your page to tell you that it took it. Then it combined all of the replies. I don’t have the low rider version but I have the bucoo 6-17 which is the same as the dragger 1. I don’t fish it near as much anymore since I only carry 5 rods. For the longest time though that was my ‘bigger’ spinnerbait and bladed jig rod, specifically 1/2 oz plus a bigger chunk of plastic. It’s also the perfect rod for a 110 sized plopper. It’s labeled a fast action but it’s a little more moderate than a true fast I think. It’s not fast enough to be a jig or worm rod to me.
  11. I think you’ll probably find that the dobyns is a bit heavier overall if you have a scale. They are known to back weight their rods in the butt to minimize swing weight at the expense of total weight. Full grips help that. After you’ve fished it a couple times then let’s talk. It’s a great rod for what you’ve picked it for.
  12. Yeah, you need a ‘big stick’. We have plenty of heavier stuff especially after June. For me that’s an amistad but ymmv.
  13. I know what you’re saying. I think it’s because the taper of the rod is a little more balanced coming down the rod. It doesn’t have a hair light tip which is what makes a lot of rods less swing heavy. And it’s 7’4” which isn’t short. I wish it had a full cork handle like the deep runner-that would help a bit. I have a zillion on mine which is the same weight as the tat elite and while it feels a little tip heavy at home I don’t find the same on the water. That said, I threw a bantam on it just today actually which is about an ounce heavier and it feels just a little better on the bench. I’m sure I won’t notice it on the water and it will fish great.
  14. Well craptastic. after 2” of sleet today that’s largely 1.5” of slush right now, this does not bode well for early open water. That’s a lot of consistent snow.

  16. The bayou is basically the eye crosser. And the new experts looks like the same blanks as the old ones. The other two are new though. Or at least newly released. Christie has talked about the flippin rod in some of his videos. I think I he kept a few in the closet after they stopped making it.
  17. This is not surprising. On the falcon rods thread we were talking about just that- the rationalization between the HD, Evo, and new Atrax.
  18. No consensus, but if the OP carried 3 weights (1/4, 3/8, 1/2), a Green pumpkin and Black/blue color of a beaver and a basic worm, and then just went fishing I bet he'd catch fish. That's a pretty minimal setup (4 bags of plastic, a 4/0 worm hook, and a small handful of weight). I think that's what the OP was going for- "if I just fished this one base setup and wanted to catch fish".
  19. And now that is answered. They traded for a big center. So long term they get luka and a big center, but have given up their young talent and a bunch of picks. They are going to have to hit the waiver wire in 2 years to fill out the roster.
  20. while I agree with this advice generally, in this case that would mean new brackets and running a cable. A 7” unit is a plug and play swap.
  21. If you are looking at helix units, then you need to know that they are discontinued and future compatibility has already been cut off. So building a boat with helixes right now means a total system change if you want to upgrade later. For that alone, I would go with the new explore, though the prices on the helixes are tempting. The motors just got upgraded to the quest series of brushless. That’s the biggest upgrade they will get anytime soon.
  22. I totally get rate of fall. Some times when I’m sure the fish are eating on the bottom I’ll have three different weights with the same bait until I figure out what they want where. That’s not my holdup with a weighted senko. I don’t think of it as light per se. Like you said, a basic 5” senko runs 3/8oz and you can throw that on most baitcasters easily enough. For me, I think of a senko as a neutral to negative feeding bait. Something to throw on the tougher days. If the fish are actively feeding then I’m throwing moving baits or (if they are bottom oriented) a different plastic likely a beaver. If the fish are not so active and those things aren’t working, then I’m skipping a weighted full size senko and going straight to a Ned rig (possibly with a 4” senko). and yet, I know a lot of fish are caught on a weighted Texas rigged senko. Maybe I should just default to a senko instead of a beaver when I tie on a Texas rig.
  23. you know, I know this works for a lot of people. But I still haven’t gotten to the point of a lighter weight Texas rig and a regular senko. In my brain that’s a finesse presentation- I’ve already fished moving baits and something like a rage bug. If I have to go to a senko, I’m already jumping to a Ned rig.
  24. A sportswriter I follow (Andrew brandt) has a couple maxims and sayings. "There will be lawyers" "Deadlines spur action" And the most useful one here: "When the question is why, the answer is usually money" In this case, I think Dallas looked at what they had with him and decided he wasn't worth the supermax they were about to be forced to pay him. I think where everyone has different opinions is about 'worth'. Yes he's 25 and just took you to the finals. Yes he's averaging 28/8/8 over the past 5 years (for those that don't follow basketball, that's very good). But he has an injury history. He has a history of showing up overweight and out of shape. He doesn't play defense (and I think he's actually a defensive liability). He definitely has an attitude that you can see on the court. What we the viewers can't see is him in the locker room. If he's all of the above but a good teammate then they probably work with him to fix all of that. If he's all of that and disruptive in the locker room then that's a problem. I think Dallas came to that conclusion and that's why they traded him. That's not to say they got what they deserved. I think they honed in on AD and said "that's our guy". When you're negotiating and only have 1 main thing that you're after you limit how much you can get from the deal, especially when you're the one that initiated it. If it had been open bidding they could have gotten more for sure. You also have to look at the flip side for the lakers- they just lost their #2 guy. I haven't looked at the analytics, but when I've watched them play and AD isn't on the floor they are a below average team and only look good if someone not named LeBron is having a hot night. Without AD on the floor they are small (even with him they were small). Now what are they going to do for a big man? I think its a short and long term win for the lakers. While they have lost a big man and a lot of defense, they now have the ability to split Luka and LeBron and always have someone on the floor who will kill you from anywhere on the court. They can put them both on the same floor and you have to decide who to guard. If Morris can hold down the fort on defense then I can see the lakers climbing to 2 or 3 in the west and making a legitimate run to the finals. As they were configured before, the only way they were getting there was if someone else got hot (Reeves?, Hachi?). Long term, you have the opportunity to work with and coach up a top 5 player in the league.
  25. something with a darker than white belly and a mid toned back, usually with a little local color thrown into the back. Here's one example in a dshad (green gizzard) but pick your favorite shape.
