  1. Just curious if the g Loomis warranty is upgradable like the St Croix?
  2. Awesome thanks
  3. Ok guys l understand what power and action are and how they relate. I'm hoping you can help me understand a little deeper. I don't know if any of you can relate, but sometimes you can feel a difference but not tell exactly what's going on. That's what I'm hoping to clear up. For reference with same length: Med-Light power / Fast tip Med power / Fast tip Med-Hvy power / Mod Fast tip Heavy power / Moderate tip I have compared like this though not all at the same time, and it was hard to tell what was going on. For instance, a MH/MF feels pretty similar to a H/Mod. In this comparison which would have the softer tip? Obviously the heavy would have the most backbone once you got there but how about in the middle? Do you guys see what lm trying to say? How does the power curves change? Feel free to read my mind..... 😂
  4. Very good. Thank you fellas.
  5. Well this is very interesting and not something I expected to find. So we know it's an awesome bang for the buck similar to the victories I already have. Where would you say it falls on sensitivity compared to others? On par with an Expride? Poison aAdrena? GLX? I'm thinking about buying a nicer finesse jig rod than my victory. Something with a lot better sensitivity. I haven't got a GLX in my hands but have tried the other Shimanos. The Expride is probably better than my victory but not noticeable enough for me to make a change. The Poison is definitely better and l would consider it for 200 more. The GLX not sure. So where would you say the Cara falls for sensitivity?
  6. Thanks guys that really helps. Around here there is very little rocky bottom. Mostly soft silt or just firmer mud bottom with plenty of weeds. Do you still crank into this? I always hear them mentioned with rocks. I have the same question about wobbleheads too. Don't get them snagged but not sure if it's a waste of time, cranking them through silt.
  7. So I've never done much with crank baits. It sounds like with crank baits you pretty much want to size them so they're always grinding on the bottom from what I understand. And now when learning about square bills, it sounds like you like to bounce them off of everything you can. The one part I need clarification on is this. Do you size your square bills to go deep enough to grind on the bottom too?
  8. Am l correct in assuming a swim jig rod would be the same as a M or MF spinnerbait/chatterbait/paddle tail rod? Not a F or XF jig rod?
  9. I was just wondering. It just kind of seemed weird that they were so highly recommended on here, but I'd never heard of them. Do you think that Kara is a better rod than the victory? That's my best bang for the buck in that price point so far.
  10. Hey guys, as I read and learn I keep hearing about falcon rods. I've never heard of them before and never heard them mentioned anywhere else but I hear them mentioned. Hear a ton. Are they a sponsor or something? How do they compare to the other brands?
  11. Hmmmm. Do you guys think the poison adrena can compete?
  12. I really have a hard time overlooking that g Loomis warranty. I gave a hard time justifying expensive rods, but with an awesome warranty it feels better
  13. Not sure if you misread my message or you were just saying but just for clarity I'm looking to mainly throw 1/4 oz jigs with trailer. They are usually 1/2-5/8 oz with trailer. I currently throw them on a victory M/XF spinning 3/16-5/8. But it's really easy for me to miss a hook set. I think I need just a little bit more backbone. Which is why I was looking at rods in 1/4-3/4 range.
  14. Thanks for the awesome info guys. Maybe you won't mind if I ask a more specific follow-up question? I'm not necessarily ready to buy, but I'm keeping my eyes open for what would be the perfect ride for what I'm looking for. Something to keep a quarter ounce jig tied on. I tend to prefer to throw that on a spinning rod if possible, but a baitcaster is fine. That led me to the GLX MH 843s SpinJig rod. Then also to the X-Bites baitcaster. I'm thinking the 1/4-3/4 oz is where l should be. Does Megabass have any spinning rods that would fit the bill? I'm not seeing any. Any other ideas? I'm half tempted to just buy an expired but l would spend more if needed.
  15. Do you guys grind them on the bottom like a type crankbait?
  16. Just curious guys, both are about 500 bucks, how do they compare? Is one material more light or sensitive than the other? Does your choice depend on individual models? Also what's the difference with usa or jdm P5s? Just kinda window shopping but if it helps at all kinda thinking of the MH MBR and the X-Bites.
  17. Does anyone still use these? We used to use them a lot when I was a kid. I just remembered them as I'm exploring square bills for the first time. I was thinking how much better they look than a crawfish painted square bill. Just curious.
  18. Roger that. Thanks fellas.
  19. Hmmm. Thank you for breaking this down for me. I'm trying to picture it. I've always heard that g Loomis has their tapers. Like JWR as you said. But I'm not understanding how rods would fit different lengths, weights, and actions could have the same taper. Aren't those the three things that determine the taper or how the rod bends??
  20. That is totally helpful but I still don't get the big picture. Take the spin jig rod- https://www.gloomis.com/products/glx-spin-jig Their 'spin jig rod' comes in 3 different lengths, with 3 different weights, they all come as fast action (but other models don't), and the weight rings are all different. Am I missing something here? How could they all be a spin jig rod with the same taper?
  21. I was looking into a spinning GLX and I'm telling you, l don't get the models at all. They have names that seem really helpful like 'spin jig'. But then you click on it and they gave different lengths, actions, and weights???? How in the heck does that make sense??
  22. Sorry bad sentence. I think with a softer tip l can just barely bump and creep it across the bottom. My stiffer rod gives less subtle movements if that makes sense. I'm pretty new to jigs still. I read some like stiff extra fast rods and others like more medium action. I'm still figuring it out. But l think l like that really light tip.
  23. I love throwing finesse jigs or really light 1/16 shakeyheads. I have a Saint Croix victory M/XF spinning rod that I love throwing them on. I do miss hook sets often though with that with anything but the thinnest hooks. Since then I've used a 7' victory MH/F baitcaster, and it's okay but I feel like it's a bit stiff in the tip. I feel like I can just creep it along the bottom. So slow with my spinning rod. And I think I get a lot more bites. So I'm kind of thinking out of the box here and considering a couple things. 1. MH expride spinning. 7'2"-1/4-3/4 oz. I've heard it said it feels like the medium fast baitcaster version. Have any of you used this? 2. 7'2" MH/MF victory baitcaster. It's called a cranking rod but for whatever reason I feel like it would be just like my other medium heavy fast with a little bit softer tip which might be perfect. I thought about a braillist but I think they'll be too heavy. I thought about a medium heavy victory spinning rod but it's 3/8-3/4 as opposed to 1/4-3/4. I think what I'm looking for is something with a very soft tip that gets into the backbone quick. Kind of like a baby version of the victory full contact finesse. I love that rod for full size jigs. I think it's kind of perfect. I just want one for my finesse jigs and in spinning if possible. You guys have any thoughts on this?
  24. Where is a good classified section for rods?
  25. The weird thing about it is it's like it's not really there. Me and my buddy were wondering if it was actually something in the water or the water itself. You can find no particles in the water that I can see and nothing floating on top. It seems like the water is full of little Little green flakes but then you stick your hand in and it's just water. Some places are thicker than others. It literally looks like there's clouds of it in the water of varying densities. Last year this Lake had 10 plus feet of visibility every time I was there. It's almost like liquid metal flake paint. Where the metal flakes aren't really something you can separate out from the paint, they're just a sparkly part of the paint. Anyway, the fishing sucks and I'm just trying to figure out if it's me or if this has more to do with it and what the hell to do next lol.
