Anyone use this on the cheap? It's KVD signature line sold as XPS by Bass Pro. I picked up a spool of 12# line and changed out my dad's vintage Berkley Tri-Sport T32 Med/Hvy action 7' spinning rod & Spinmaster Diamond ("clone" of South Bend) spinning reel. Took up all 200 yards on the spool...

Thanks... I think I have all the bases covered, as the saying goes: Berkley Tri-Sport 7' Med/Hvy action, ©1968 (My Dad's). Spinmaster Diamond (South Bend "clone") heavy duty reel. 10# Spider Wire braided line (2024, by me) -- Spool #1. 12# Stren monofilament (I think) on spare Spool #2 in the tacklebox. ............................ Old vintage Garcia Conolon rods & reels, Mitchell 304 reel.... Daiwa rods & reels (70's). Shakespeare rods & reels (80's). ............................. And now an 80's Ultra-light Shakespeare rod & reel setup to make everything complete!

Anyone have one of those 5' ultra-light spinning rod/reel combos? What do you think? I picked this up off eBay last week from a guy in PA, for only $6 bucks! Heck, the shipping cost more than the sale! LOL... 80's Shakespeare TSP-50 2 UL, mated with my 80's Shakespeare Alpha 1000 UL spinning reel, and 4# line. Hopefully you can see it well enough in this photo, when I was at a nearby public park, with a weedless rubber worm rig that I made.

Exactly.... My folks had a summer lakefront home up in the Adirondacks in the 70's when I finished high school. That old lure probably was used in Lake Ontario as well. I could never fish with it down here in Virginia.

I have my dad's old stuff from the 60's & 70's, rods & reels, his tacklebox, etc... and my whole entire childhood in in that tacklebox, you know? Anyway, one of the incredible lures that he has in there, I decided to look up on the internet, vintage lure sites, eBay, etc... Anyone remember these? I got out a magnifying glass and verified the info on the blade(s): Side 1) W. D. Chapman & Son, Theresa, NY Side 2) Lure 2, Pat. 1883 I checked eBay, and was blown away. Someone has the same thing, but a hair bigger (Lure 3) and with a squirrel hair skirt. The asking price on eBay is $499.95! OMG!!! 😲 I AM NOT SELLING MINE, AS MY DAD WOULD COME BACK FROM HEAVEN, AND BEAT MY BEHIND!!

I use round nose pliers and make a 180° bend, insert the treble hook, and then bend it further, like 270°. Then *carefully* twist the remaining wire around and around by hand.

I was doodling around with brass beads earlier today and created this: A type of imitation Mepps inline spinner with a #3 brass French spinner blade. Recipe: 5/32 brass bead (i.e. smaller head?) #3 Clevis & #3 brass French blade 1/4 brass bead 5/16 brass bead 5/16 brass bead 1/4 brass bead #6 treble hook w/ red rubber tubing. Hmmm.... I wonder what would tear this up?

Life is good... My mission is complete... Introduce my 6 yr old granddaughter to fishing with her own Shakespeare children's rod & reel combo (an ultra-lite to us adults). She had a ball and wanted to catch tiny sunfish in the little church pond that I took her to here in Beaufort, SC (off base military housing). I'm here visiting for the weekend...

Happy -- day after 4th of July! 😎 I had a spark of creativity, and decided to make this from various parts & pieces. I guess this would be a Swimbait Jig Spinner combo. What do you think? 4" "Real Shad" colored swimbait. Size 3/0 weighted keeper swimbait hook. ...and I added a Jig spinner w/ Colorado blade.

So sad... I'm down here in Henrico Co, and have been to Lake Anna many many times over the past 20 years. I know it well, and have seen the massive development for years. What used to be a nice, pristine, 17 mile long lake, is no longer what it once was. ☹️

Updated photo taken yesterday... I'm wearing my incredibly comfortable Fishing PFD from Cabela's. I was changing lures in the photo...

I just made these two this morning (well... the jerkbait was "assembled"). All parts/pieces came straight from that old company Jann's Netcraft. 4" (Rapala clone) jerkbait in a Sexy Shad color pattern. #4 treble hook (rear) and #6 treble hook (middle), and size 2 splitrings. The spinnerbait is a white/chartreuse coloring, 3/0 hook, a mossy craw colored skirt, and an Indiana spinner on a clevis with 2 beads, and a brass French spinner blade on a black swivel.

Yes, they were great! Very lightweight, meant for a light action rod, 4-6# line, etc... Would catch Crappie and smaller Bass.

Ouch... 😕 Kayaks are a blast! I love fishing out of mine, gently trolling along as a I paddle. 1) Heat & humidity on the James River here in Richmond, VA. 2) Worrying about getting swamped by a wakeboarding boat. 3) Getting skunked over and over on small ponds inside parks, fishing from land. 3a) I just go there to test my lures that I make from parts/pieces from Netcraft. 4) Having to travel an hour, hour & a half, away from Richmond, just to find a nice lake. 5) School age boys (7 yrs old, 8 yrs old) jumping off the public fishing pier, going swimming, even though there is a sign saying NO SWIMMING and that's it's a dedicated fishing pier. 5a) You get frustrated and decide not to reprimand the boys, after seeing the snobby looking Soccer mom watching the boys. Instead of making a scene, you just pack up and go home.

Same.... It depends on what, when, and the seasons. Fall/Winter -- I carry my one-of-a-kind, RIA 1911 .45 ACP w/ custom made USCG Logo grips. Spring/Summer -- I carry a really cool, very "old school", S&W 36 snubby .38 special in my pocket.

Edit.... Sorry, let me try again. There. My fault... What do you think of these two dual inline spinners? One (left) is plain, the other (right) is a jig head with a rubber swirl tail grub on a weedless hook. I can tweak these, mess around these, change them around... What do you think?

Understood. I see that here too in Virginia, along the James River. I have mentioned a few times that it is almost the same as up in NY, PA, etc... with the famous Susquehanna River. 3 feet deep.... 4 feet deep.... I have seen many people (like myself - before) not wearing a PFD but yet still have one onboard. Paddleboarders wear one, which is good to see.

This past weekend (Father's Day sales) I picked up a really nice mesh dedicated fishing PFD from Cabela's. Very nice, very comfortable, numerous pockets and even rubber fishing lure storage (w/protection from getting jabbed). I now wear it whenever I go kayaking, as I filled the compartments with assorted fishing lures that I made (and they work!). If you look at my Avatar, you'll see my Cayman 124 Sit-on fishing kayak, and a yellow/black PFD behind me in the bungee storage area. That belonged to my (late) brother-in-law. I adjusted the straps, etc.. so it would fit me, but still... It's a common Type III waterskiing PFD and not a fishing PFD.
