Why did my mind jump to Bob Ross style painting when I read this? It's ok or him to catch all his fish scoping but not "the wiz kids and their black boxes"? Pot, meet kettle.

Dedicated Soft Plastics Casting Rod
I've used a 7' MF Abu Garcia Veritas (can't remember if it's the PLX or LTD) and was pretty happy with it. I didn't love it for some of the heavy plastics like the Yamatunuki as I could throw those on a MH just fine.

What Are You Willing To Pay?
Like many, if I need it, I buy it regardless of a sale. But I also don't pass up a good sale on baits I use all the time. One of my favorite things about Omnia vs TW is that they regularly do 20-25% off an entire brand or type of lure. I stocked up when Yamamoto and Z Man went on sale recently.

I wasn't sure if they showed one of those animated graphics of where different boats are across the body of water like they sometimes do. I know they showed or mentioned which river McKinney and Fothergill were fishing.

Lessons for Kayak Buyers
Speaking for myself when I used to do the kayak fishing, there's not enough room in your yak to have all of that stuff immediately ready. My phone was in a pocket or stored somewhere so I wouldn't lose it if I flipped. Often times if you wanted (or had to) take the photo in the app, it would take some time for the app to load. My bump board was longer than the interior width of my yak, so I had to store it behind the seat until I needed it or it would be in the way. I'd also set the net up in front of the end of the bump board in case the fish tried to flop out- can't have that set up if I need to use the net to land the fish. Courteous anglers make it a point to wet their bump boards before they set a fish on it- can't have that wet every second you're fishing. I didn't have a Donkey Leash but used a pair of fish grips tied to my yak. I don't see how having a fish restrained in the water boat side for 30 seconds is any worse than fighting a fish for an extra 30 seconds or keeping it out of the water for 30 seconds or in a livewell.

Did they ever show what part of the system he was fishing in? You fished similar waters when you were stationed in VB. If back then it was anything like it is today, you know how easy it is to be one of those guys. I'm either a hero or a zero out there, rarely an in between. It did when MLF went to Chowan. Unless guys find them pulling up, I suspect the top 10 will mostly be dominated by scope. I don't foresee it setting up to bed fish with the weather we're getting today and tomorrow.

Adding rusted tackle to a box with new baits
Thanks Tom. This seems like the most complete solution. The smell of WD-40 makes me nervous in how bass will react to it, but I'm sure over time it will wear off. The nail polish is a great idea if the WD-40 doesn't do the trick. I've already got those packets and have used them since last year. Just trying to deal with the damage done before I started using them. As a lot of folks suggested, some of the cheaper baits will just get tossed. But I refuse to throw away $25 vision 110s over some surface rust on the hook hangers. I don't mind tossing a KVD 1.5, but when it's 30 or more it's a little harder to swallow. I'll try to save as many as I can. Until I get everything cleaned up, the older baits will continue to live in their own boxes.

Crankbait Circle Hook
Very interesting how some days they've worked seemingly fine and then they didn't. Do you think it all has to do with how they're eating the bait?

A jaw clip on a leash, essentially. You tie one end to your yak and clip the other end to the fish. Let's you get your bump board, camera, and stuff ready before you take it out of the water.

Nightmare fuel.....worst Bass fishing injury I've ever heard
OUCH! Did he go over the bow or over the side and the boat spun on him? Sounds like he's lucky he didn't hit his head on those shallow rocks.

How much does a higher end rod ‘help’?
High quality blanks and reel seats increase the amount of vibration that makes it to your hand. That's not really debatable, is it? By your logic, my daughter's 2' Frozen Zebco combo has just as much sensitivity as a G Loomis NRX?

Nightmare fuel.....worst Bass fishing injury I've ever heard
Can we get the rest of this story? I only know one person who was hit by a prop. He was the divemaster for a wreck dive so he was first over the side to set the anchor. For some reason the captain put the boat in gear as he was coming up and the inboard prop hit his leg. Broke it in a few places and knocked him unconscious. He sank to the bottom in ~60 ft and came to down there. Was able to get himself to the surface with his BC and they saved his leg. This same guy worked construction and fell off some scaffolding and was impaled by multiple pieces of rebar. Survived that too. Starting to think he may be a cat as I write this.

I was just saying I missed this part of the coverage... trying to watch what I can at work. From the little I've seen this year, coverage doesn't seem that much different than years past in regards to how much fishing is going on.

I have to disagree with everyone saying that a higher end rod won't put more fish in the boat. Seems like people unanimously agree that most higher end rods have better sensitivity than a lower end rod. Better sensitivity = better bite detection = more bites detected = more fish hooked = more fish in the boat

I missed this on the coverage. Assume he was getting a bait back vs trying to fish from there? Maybe if NC didn't have such crazy flounder regs. I think they may have a full blown moratorium on them right now. Too much harvest from gigging over the years.

Must be BASS's latest attempt to draw in some new crowds. Deion didn't pull in the football fans like they hoped, so they're going after the Star Wars crowd now.

It is TOUGH listening to Powroznik's live coverage. Dude sounds like Darth Vader. Might be time to lay off the twinkies and go for a run once in a while, man.

Adding rusted tackle to a box with new baits
I'm very particular about not putting my tackle away wet... now. But I hate to throw away many $100s of dollars of baits that just have surface rust on a hook hanger or something minor. I think getting the rust off will be easier than keeping it off. I wonder if there's something that can be sprayed on them that will prevent rust without compromising the paint/plastic or covering it in a negative scent.

My dad ran the environmental program for all those bases when you were around here. I do love Back Bay and North Landing like you used to fish. I live very close to the NW River so I fish that a fair bit now. I think this Pasquotank derby is the closest to replicating that fishery that we'll see a major trail visit. I don't have a ton of history in Carolina, but I would not be surprised to see this one won in the North River or Alligator River.

Should've taken off work so I could watch this without getting in trouble. This is likely the closest they'll ever come to the waters I fish. Also, the Masters is on. What a time to be alive.

Adding rusted tackle to a box with new baits
I've searched and read plenty about rust prevention and rust removal, but can't find anything that addresses this specific question. If you're starting fresh with a new box and some new baits, what do you do with your old baits that have a little rust on them? I'm switching most of my hard bait boxes over now and added a fair number of new jerkbaits and crankbaits. I want to combine my old baits with the new, but some have rust on the hook hangers and permanent hardware. I don't want to introduce rust to these new baits, so I'm wondering if there's something I can do to get rid of the rust, prevent it from returning, and prevent it from spreading. Obviously, I'll remove and swap rusted hooks, but I don't think I can do that for the hook hangers or line ties.

What rod holders are these?! (For boat deck)
I'm sure someone will knock these off soon enough and put them out at a reasonable price point.

Do you think it’s safe to leave rods spooled with flurocarbon or even mono outside in the cold?
It's rare I use all 20, but commonly use 12-15 in a given day. But when it's a tournament and you haven't been on the lake in a while, I find it better to be overprepared than waste time rigging or switching up lures once on the water. Factor in 50+ lbs of tackle that needs to go in certain spots so I can find it again, and you're looking at close to an hour getting the boat loaded. Probably shouldn't say I leave the graphs in the truck the night before too or I may get shunned from this site.

What is the best high visibility braid?
Power Pro is cheap? It's more expensive than the Sufix 832 and many other big name braids.

That's very good to know. I've always pulled my gear out of the boat when not in use during the summer because I suspected the heat would do some sort of damage. Guess I wasn't wrong after all. Wouldn't the grease lose that viscosity once it warmed up again? I load up my gear the night before because it takes the better part of an hour to load 20+ combos and all my tackle. I'd rather do that the night before than get up at 3am instead of 4.
