Abu fans
Not getting into the weeds on this but ABU hasn’t been mfg 2500, 4500 or 4600 reels since 2000, production reels were sent to S.Korea and China. Pre 2000 ABU’s became a sought after item for the original ABU reel parts the now vintage reels. This thread reminds of the vintage car racers rebuilding and modifying the older cars. Bulldog1935 has a fabulous reel collection. Tom

Why are my boat batteries dying so fast?
2 group 24’s in series are too small for the TM, you need 2 group 31’s AGM’s for a 21’ tournament bass boat. Gr 24 is marginal cranking battery if multiple Sonars are in use. You may have something drawing current when garaged or your charger isn’t putting out 10 amps per battery. Always charge the night before using. Tom PS, you can exchange name brand batteries anywhere they are sold. 3 bank Norco Genius onboard charger is good.

Wristbrace Recommendations?
Athletic wrist wrap supports that don’t go around your thumb may work. Casting should be mostly wrist motion! 3 Advil’s work. Tom

Titles are easy to edit, click on the 3 dots upper right corner of your post to open the edit feature. My spelling and finger typing skills are poor and use the edit feature all the time. Trying to decipher what a member is thinking is mind reading, why not correct the mis spelling so we make stupid guesses? Tom

Chipped Carbide Guide Replacement?
Tip guides are easy to replace you need the same size barrel ID. Look at utube for detailed instructions. Also you can take the rod to nearly any decent tackle shop. Yes, the entire tip guide is replaced, not chipped ring. Tom

Problem with my SLX?
I have been using Break Free CLP for decades as a reel lubricant on level wind worm gear and spool ends for on the water cleaning lubricant. 2 oz bottle with straw applicator is easy to use a drop on the gear or spool ends works wonders. Tom

Kayak....how far do you want to push a boat that tips over? Better off putting 100 lbs of gear costing over 3k in a boat like a Jon modV. Tom

Humble Pie & Suspended Fish
The key is Threadfin Shad Bait schools, if the bass are feeding then they are not necessarily suspending. 1/8 - 3/16 oz darter heads w/ 4” curl tail worms can also work. Keitechs have opened this window, excellent swimmer. Tom

Big Brain Bass?
It’s difficult to comprehend that no fresh water Black Bass species are native west of the Rocky Mountains. Washington, Oregon, Arizona and California had no bass until they were transplanted from mid west and eastern states. Everywhere else Black Bass are native with centuries of evolution to develop mass populations and their DNA. Western bass are still adapting to their new environment. The reason Florida strain LMB were introduced was to increase a fading catch rate per man hour fished in San Diego lakes. Result was lower catch rates as the FLMB proved to be harder to catch on artificial lures. The Success of the FLMB was they grew faster and bigger then the Northern strain bass introduced 70 years earlier. Now the growth rates have stabilized with the lower catch rate overall, fewer and harder to catch but slightly larger Bass now populate our lakes. Tom

Humble Pie & Suspended Fish
Suspended bass without balled up baitfish nearby tells me to forget them for now and go find active bass. It’s called fishing for a reason. Tom

Big Brain Bass?
The vigor of the various bass species and sub strains dwindles over generations unless strong genetic individuals make a higher % of the population in weaker individuals. Texas has had and continues to have the Share A Lunker program that adds strong vigor individuals annually based on growth rate. The were caught so they also genetically are aggressive. California doesn’t have any program to raise bass, the fish are electro shocked and moved from an existing lake to a new lake. California hasn’t constructed a new lake in over 30 years. The Florida strain LMB were introduced in 1959, the vigor of our bass have declined tremendously and few aggressive FLMB exists in our lakes today. The Northern strain LMB introduced in 1890 remain more aggressive in the few lakes with that population, most have intragated with FLMB and influenced by decades of catch & release. We need virgin bass with pure vigor genes to improve the catch rates. Tom
