Smallmouth fishing in rivers: Cranks or soft baits
Every lure i use for largemouth i use for smallies. I just go a little smaller and usually adjust my technique to a little faster and erratic

presentations for dirty river smallies
Hey, you dont have to just use cranks and spinnerbaits. You can use soft plastics too. Just remember, in muddy water you have to fish really tight to cover. You can also add rattles. As for colors use dark hues, because you are trying to create a sillouette.

Derrick Hughes - Resume
I am certainly not an expert on this subject but i would have to say that your resume is not bad. If you win one of those many tournaments you fish then that will really help, because you dont have a ton of success yet, but a little.

Tackle selection on 50 degree water temp
their is many different lures and techniques that will work in winter, especially in So Cal, so i would suggest just slowing down and really fishing areas slow and thoroughly.

How do you fish this lure??
i have never fished it but i imagine you can probably use various retrieves and eventually catch one, so let the bass tell you how to fish it.

Question for the IL fishermen...
I wouldnt recommend shelbyville especially in midsummer, a lot of water traffic. I would go to a smaller lake or chain of lakes, like Mazonia, or some of the forest preserve lakes. Im also going down south in Illinois for some fishing in a buddies chain of private ponds, great fishing. Their is room for a few more to come down, Shoot me a PM if your interested.

New to the board and semi-new to fishing
Welcome!!! My advice for you is to fish a lot of ponds and small rivers. Public or private (if you get permission). You do not need a boat for ponds because most of them you can cast anywhere in the lake from places on the bank, and get a pair of waders for the rivers. Works for me

Rigging the Yum Crawbug
Tubefishing, There are no dumb questions in fishing, you are a novice and the only way to learn is to ask. You want to texas rig a crawfish with a widegap hook so the shank of the hook is under the crawfish. That way the eyes and all the lifelike features of the crawfish are up and the presentation looks natural. if you rig the hook so the shank is on the top then the lure will be upside down.

Pics from Classic

The General thread is a disaster!
i dont think we should have a welcome thread. Their really arent that many "new member" threads, maybe 3 at the most. Plus, the modifiers have said it before, winter is the time when most people join this site so it should tone down come spring.
