  1. yeah, it's going to be gusty here too. should be fine if I'm casting with the wind right?! No? I guess we'll find out. I just want to wet a line.... :'(
  2. I wanted to maybe get out tomorrow morning but wasn't sure of the current state of the ponds and lakes in NoVA. Is all the ice gone? Anyone been to Royal, Huntsman, Mercer, Woodglen, etc.? Any ideas on water temps? Thanks guys. Who's free tomorrow morning?
  3. You sir are amazing I'd be satisfied to wet a line, happy to hook up with a dink, and ecstatic to catch a keeper, but you're catching 5 lbers in February! Very nice! Keep it up!
  4. I think SimonSays was tearing up the shad on the james last year.
  5. I was tempted to put a motor on my kayak but didn't want to go through the hassle of getting it registered.
  6. are you talking about the propulsion system with the peddles? It's like combining a bike with a kayak. If thats what you're talkin about it has it's pros and cons. pros: it can go in reverse cons: you can't tuck them like the hobie flippers, you have to work a lot harder to get it moving (from what i read), and it won't work too great in very shallow water. Hobie, for the win.
  7. just waiting for the weather to warm up so i can cast w/o having my line freeze. Haven't been out in a looooooooooooooong time. :-/
  8. That's awesome!!! Congrats on the boat!
  9. It was tough, cold, windy, and, did I mention tough? Simon and I got skunked and not sure how Jon did after we left. The wind kept blowing me around and it was hard to position myself anywhere. I did learn a lot from Jon though and appreciate the knowledge he shared with us. Hopefully, my next outting on Burke will produce fish. Aside from Simon, Jon, and I there was one other boat on the water.
  10. ah shucks, I was planning on wearing board shorts and going for a dip : ::knockonwood:: Simon bring that box! I might need some.
  11. Awesome, we'll probably be out there around the same time. I'm still gettin used to reading charts so this trip will be beneficial regardless if fish are caught. I hope our kayak drive systems don't freeeze .
  12. Mind if the yaker's come along? Simon and I are thinkin of hitting up Burke to see if we can learn a thing or two and hopefully catch some fish.
  13. My left hand just sux. :'( It just feels more natural for me to work jerkbaits, frogs, and other lures that require movement of the rod with my right hand. If I tried to work a jerkbait with my left hand i'd end up in the water somehow That's my reason for using a LH caster. Same reason i retrieve with my left with a spinning reel. Working shaky heads or twitchin any bait just feels better with the rod in my right hand. All personal preference. If you're pretty good with both hands and can rub your head and pat your tummy, I don't see how it'd matter. just my opinion
  14. hooking up with a fish. 'till then i'm half asleep.
  15. Haven't had a chance to try it with my reel yet since the first one came with a broken tip. Once the rod gets here from Daiwa I'll let you know, but playing with the broken one, I think i'm going to really like it. I got a MHF and plan on using it as my do all shore fishing rod.
  16. 6'6" zillion in the mail...first one came broke. Hopefully they go well together. I wanted to get a st. croix xtreme but I hate recoil guides. Darn impulse buys! Definitely tough outting: line freezing up on spool, icing on guides, and worst of all a skunk for me! Rob caught one though :-/
  17. I wanted to try something new but wanted someone to go with me to give me some help I figured since I know where the pockets are at mercer I might have a better chance there. I also marked a few really nice schools of fish there the last time I was out and was hoping they'd be in the same area. I don't plan on fishing long either. Good luck at Burke!
  18. Scratch that, I'm going to fish Mercer. Be there at 7am if anyone is interested in joinin me. Still no cell phone so PM me if interested
  19. I've only fished Anna once before and that was on a pontoon I rented from Sturgeon Creek. It was pretty rough as I didn't know much about bass fishing then. I plan on going back more next year though. One thing I've always wanted to try was the striper fishing at Anna.
  20. I know exactly what you mean by the traffic! I live by a mall and this time of year sux. How's the fishing though?
  21. Paul, let me know when you're going out. If my schedule cooperates i'd like to get out on the kayak again too.
  22. I think i'm going to shoot for the hunts saturday morning. I'm going to stick with shore fishing. let me know if you're interested!
  23. Thanks for the info Jon! ;D I was actually thinking of hitting up Huntsman with my kayak. Any pointers? PM if you don't mind sharing some info I work near rt.1 and four mile run! I always thought that water was way too polutted and my line would melt if i tried to fish it. Might have to give it a try. Was your success at Burke at night or during the day too? Thanks again for all the input. I greatly appreciate it!
  24. Thanks Allyn, but that's all the way in February!!! Must.fish.now.
