It's been awhile since I've been out so I had no idea where the fishing was hot. I was going to go to Huntsman but my buddy wanted to go to Royal and since he's been having a rough week (his father is in the hospital and not doing so well ) we went to Royal. Took my kayak and had no idea where to fish. I haven't fished Royal much this year so I went where ever my friend wanted to go. We started at the end near the concrete boat launch (west of the dam, i think...). It was hot so I figured the fish would be deep. Caught two keepers pretty quick, including one close to 3#, dragging a flappin hog on a jig head across the bottom. Caught another keeper off a texas rigged blue/black lizard and a power worm also dragged across the bottom. It was hot and mid day so I didn't expect to catch much but it was good to be fishing again! I need to catch up to everyone else!

Nice Jon! I hope I have some luck there. I'm thinking about taking my kayak out on Huntsman tomorrow. I've got a seat open on my kayak if anyone (under 200lbs, seriously) would like to join me. Shoot me a PM if you're free. Andrew

Nice! Earlier this year I was fishing the beaver hut area (there's a sign on the path that says something about beavers) anyways its on a really steep embankment. Pitched a tube next to this stump and WHAM! my drag went screaming. Went to set the hook and the fish was gone I feel a kayak/canoe would be really effective on thsi body of water...

small inline spinners like a mepps or a joe's fly should get you some quick action either from small smallies or some bluegill.

i just bought one at BPS in maryland...haven't tried it out yet though. I'm scared! Rob keeps saying we should go down there but man...I need to stop spending. As easy as it was for me to break down and buy my daiwa reels, I'm afraid of the bait monkey + greentop. My other fear = bait monkey + japanese lures....

I've been there once before and had very little luck =/ maybe it was just a bad day.

I've never been but am afraid my first time will be an expensive, bait-monkey influenced day of spending....

Sad to hear Michelle, but I you'll be into bass fishing soon enough. When fishing for bluegill, I always end up with a few smaller bass and once you hook into a nice sized keeper, you'll be back! Good luck and have fun! ;D

I'm taking off next week too but I'll be in Vegas until tuesday night. I plan on fishing thursday, fri, sat, sun. Let me know what you have in mind and maybe we can work something out.

sorry about the late response. I forgot the name of the parking lot but I think, i'm horrible with directions, if you're coming from the east (from like old town alexandria) and you're going west on the jeff. davis. hwy you'll see a large parking lot on your left. I just parked there and walked over the small bridge to the other side and made my way to the shoreline from there. I'll try and get the name of the parking lot and get back to you. sorry if my response doesn't make much sense.

Is that the time we went w/ Jeremy? I couldn't believe they started casting so close to you guys. It didn't do them any good though: bad karma from poaching your spot equalled no fish for them (at least that I saw). Yeah! That spot! Seems like it could be very productive and there was a lot of shore line to cover.
