WHAT KNOT ARE YOU TYING???? If your losing fish with 14lb test, its either bad line or a bad knot or your just trying to tank those fish, Or its something with teeth. Maybe the lock nest monster lives in that spot. I would try throwing rope out next time.

You'll find that every pond, lake, river, stream, and reservoir have a color or certain lure that works best on a given day. Some sunny days a lighter color might work well. Others a dark color will. If you have no clue what so ever. I would start by thinking of 2 things. Light conditions: Overcast/Dusk: Dark Colors: Dark Green, Black, Dark red, Brown. Sunny/Clear Skies: Light Colors: White, Green, Red, Blue, Chartreuse. Next I would look at your water clarity. Muddy Water: Brown, Green, Black. Murky: Green, Brown, Black, Blue. Clear: MATCH YOUR FORAGE: Green for weeds, Brown?Black for rocks. Etc.. I'm not going to say color selection doesn't matter because it does. But I would throw a variety of lures until you find out what works.

Location is always a big key anytime you fish. In the ohio river the more ''finesse'' you go the better the fishing gets mainly because the water is just so clear. CATT , your trying to say what he threw/color selection didn't matter? That's a false statement. If your look at what he threw Spinners/Jerk baits they all represent the main forage of shad this time of year. As for the jig n trailer those always works on rocks''hard bottom''. Why doesnt bass resource have their own Amature Tournament Trail? I think that itcould turn into a fantastic trail if run right. With all the sponsors for the site and all the members. Ok, here in ohio i fish alot of tournaments and such and have followed these guidlines by doing so. But before i go into detail im going to give you my perspective on water temps. Fish are like people the older you get the harder it is to stand the heat but a few older fellows can deal with it. The younger you are the eaiser it is to deal with the heat. The same goes for the fish. I fish for my limit on tthe structure i can see be it rocks, weeds or wood. once i have my limit i move offshore and fish for my kicker fish. Our surface tems run about 78deegrees f. the deepest dropoff ledge ive seen/picked up bass this yearhas been around 14ft.

if nothing else has worked try running a rat l trap silver in color[bass should be on a shad bite] also work the pt in all diff angles n depths. Just keep at it. its like anything you get better with pratice. Remember....''Patience is key''

Well if you fishing dropoffs n ledges 2 things u need, cranks are the first and fairly easy. Next is the Drop Shot rig. if you cant pull a few up on those 2 things i would def. move to another spot.

Well guys gotta tourney 2night starts at 5pm-10pm. Im sitting at work pondering what i should do. Heres my predictions of the conditions ill be fishing. 1] water temp of 72/74.5 f. 2] slightly stained/muddy water 3] overcast all day it just rained early this morning but should clear up by tourament time. any advice on what 2 throw?

I feel its almost like a 6th sense. When im fishing i never watch 1thing in particular but everything as a whole just makes sense 2 me. Its almost a gut instinct it really is quite weird. Anyway im sure you can learn 2 an extent but its like sports you can only make urself so good, the rest you have 2 be born with.

etommy, I realize that might be a bit offensive and I understand everyone has a bad day. Ive fished kentucky lake 3 times. Did my homework, asked around got an idea and made changes i felt i needed to make. The first time down there I only caught a dozen or so fish with 5 keepers in an 8hr period. I have more trouble fishing waters that i think I know because i try the same thing. Sometimes it work others it doesnt. But as for fishing waters you havent fished if you do your homework you should be able to atleast pull in 1 keeper.

I understand this is the first year, but why not have a Pre qualifier? Ive seen the reports for kentucky lake quite a few teams didnt even have a fish to take in. I understand that everyone has a bad day every now and then but really 2ppl couldnt catch one fish? I just think 2yr schools have the same opprotunity to be #1. Or would it look bad that a 2yr school wipes the floor with a big 4yr school? IDK.. It just doesnt seem right and i am sticking it out. This will change eventually. Ive called many 2yr schools in ohio today and lets just say they might have to make another division for us then. LOL...

There is other options Glenn But i cant find anything that's nearly as perfect for me as this. I mean fishing for basically nothing competitively. I mean no entry fee. They furnish the boats. Perfect for a college student. With times being ruff I cant afford to haul my boat hundreds of miles and pay the huge entry fees. I fish a lot of tournaments already and do fairly well but with the gas it sucks down makes my wallet cringe.

The College FLW was a dream for me when I heard about it. My life revolves around fishing. It now that dream is ever so far away. After reading the rules over and over I find myself not believe what I see. How could anything be so discriminatory. Because I do not go to a 4yr school I nor my partner nor anyone in the club or any 2yr school for that matter cannot fish the College FLW. I talked to Kevin the Tournament director today. I asked why this circuit was started. He said to promote the competitive sport at the college level. I asked why 2yr schools cannot fish. He said "after a very long pause" we already have TO MANY SCHOOLS FOR ME TO HANDLE AT THIS TIME. I asked will there be 2yr schools able to fish next year or anytime soon He said very doubtful because he is having trouble handling this all. Now for this was a dream crusher to me. This was a way to get my name out there and become someone. I wanted to show my skills to the world. I love the sport. But because i do not have the money to attend a 4yr school i cannot fish in this circuit. Bass Resource, I have come to you for advice and information. Any suggestions on what to do? deep hooksets usually occuur due to you not feeling the bite fast enough. Usually on the inital fall. How do u fix this? PRATICE!! Know your depth! If you know the depth is 10 ft and you see tje lines stopped a 7ft set the hook. Do not have a ton of slack in your line ANYTIME! Watch the line movement!! As for tournament fishing Catch and release works to try and save the fish. If you have to take it home and have a sandwich!

I fish mostly tournaments and carry a minimum 6 rods and reels with diffrent setups. With a few backups on certain setups. I fish rivers a ton and the fish can change every few hours. How many do you carry?

3 things you need 2 look 4 this time of year. Deeper water(shallows that drop off proably 10-15ft. Swift current around bends in the river(usually deeper water and current are both here). Structure! Some days the will be on logs etc. others is rocks. Green Pumpkin seed tubes 3in. t-rig with no more that 1/2 oz bullet sinkers. Make sure u get the tube hooks probably number 2 size. Just cast out 30ft of like or so and drift fish these bends by trailing the lure behind the boat. let the current and bottom bounce and move the lure. keeep the line tight. GET A FEEL FOR DIFF BOTTOMS. you will be able detect those light (mushy) bites that the big ones usually give off..

Well being in illinois i would say you are fishing post spawn 100%. therefore you will find male bass in shores still esp in weedbeds. If you looking for post spawn females fish deeper with soft plastics or cranks baits. on on the flats past the weedbeds nearing a dropoff.

Search fishing to start: Throw something like cranks or spinners. After you find a fish r 2 go over them solid with a jig or tube

This thread is way over my head. I can tell trees apart by leaves, and bark, color. but getting into what types of soil etc. WAY WAY over my head. There is electronics. that tell me what i need to know. I think reading electronics is just as hard as studying the trees etc.
