  1. I already have my day planned. All the baits and times I'm going to throw them, depending on the situations and where we anchor or troll. Think I got a pretty good game plan based off how and what we caught em' on last time. Gonna try a few different things but hopefully we can get a good limit and finish up the season with a bang. I'm excited! Late Morning: -Floating Rapala (Fire tiger) -Mann's Shallow Cranks (Frog Pattern) Noon time: -Shad Raps (Shad, Perch) Rest of the day: -Jig X Blue and Black Jigs (football head w/ Yum Crawdad Trailers in red) -Shakey Head Rigs w/ Zoom Finesse Worms in Watermelon Situation dependent: -Chartreuse Strike King Spinner w/red head (Yum Wooly Bug Fire Tiger Trailer) -Dean Rojas Forest Green Frog
  2. Hey Matt, I forgot about 2005 and the down year the Pats had against the Colts (and the one loss in 2004), but if you look at the series between the two Brady obviously has the better record. I used to get caught up in my dad always saying "Manning can't beat Brady", blah blah blah cause he's a die hard New England fan. But I didn't really pay attention to them last year. I have paid quite a bit of attention THIS year and know that the reason the announcers jump on New England's band wagon is because Indy doesn't line up against them. Brady is on pace to break the record Manning set for td passes not too long ago. That's impressive. Remember all the talk when Manning was going for that record? It's all you heard about. The Pat's just have a lot going for them. They look better than the 3 squads that won superbowls for them this decade. The Colts are a great team don't get me wrong, but after this week they are going to be known as the second best team in the NFL. I actually can't wait to see what happens to this thread after the game (who comes back, who doesn't talk anymore, etc). Should be interesting come Sunday.
  3. Hey dad pick up some of the Rapala Shad Raps, they have all sorts of color configurations. For colors I like the bluegill (bg), shad (sd), bleeding pearl (bp) and silver (s). They run from 4'-15' depending on the lure you buy. Walmart up the road has them and Boater's World sometimes carries em'. I'm sure you can get em' at Dick's Sporting Goods too. I use the bluegill in the reservoir and lakes we fish and the shad in the rivers we fish (potomac and occoquan) just because those two are typical forage in our area. I've caught a bass on all the colors so far that I've used. These lures run great right out of the box and you can't beat the price. Pick up some of the Mann's crankbaits for shallow running applications. Later dad.
  4. Dude that's awesome buddy. His bloopers are hilarious. You will have a great time watching those. Sit back with a cold one and enjoy, you will not stop laughing. From his hook sets to his fishing pole mishaps, he is a mad man lol. I wanna second what everyone else has been saying and tell you how much I appreciate you doing what your doing over there. The world needs more people like you to rally behind and protect our people and ways. Come home safe so you can get back to those kids and the wife man. Take care.
  5. What KU said. Also it really is a divisional issue. The NFL needs to either rework some of these divisions or there is never gonna be a "tough" schedule for the Pats. They have the Jets, Bills, and Dolphins for a total of 6 games. That's an easy 6 wins under their belt almost guaranteed. Aside from the fact that the division rivalry between the Jets and New England can sometimes be pretty close games. The Colts naturally have a harder division with teams like the titans and jaguars in there, heck even the texans this year have given them a run for a while. So they naturally are going to have a bit tougher schedule at least for 4-5 games. This game is actually the first real test for either team. Dallas is an NFC team, and while good in their elements (against nfc teams) they don't comapre to the AFC. I still don't think the Colts hold a stick to the pats even though they are the champs and are undefeated. The Pats have alot better D than the Colts this year on paper. Stats may be close, but on paper the players on the New England D should eat the Colts alive. Another factor is the fact that Brady kills zone coverages. The Indy D better come up with some great looks to throw Brady off, and even then they have to get through New Englands O-line. I forgot to mention one more element. New England has depth at almost all positions especially on offense. Brady can throw to anyone and now they have Sammy Morris in the backfield, and Wes Welker as a number three type reciever. They can put Vrabel in the game at TE, FB, WR, RB, etc. They can even throw to number two and three tight ends like Kyle Brady. Too many weapons here.
  6. We always blame the bait monkey. Poor guy lol. On a serious note... I kinda agree with you. I really like these bps tourney special rods now. I will still more than likely pick up a shimano w/ a faster action but I may pick up another bass pro rod instead. Still debating. I wanna horse around with my new setup for a couple of weeks before I make my decision.
  7. Way to make adjustments and come away with a win there buddy. We are all proud of you here and hope that we can someday follow in those footsteps (those of us who haven't had an opportunity like you). That's one heck of a field there and you really showed em' how to get it done. Great job!
  8. Went out last night after work for about an hour and fifteen minutes with my fishing buddy Karen. We fished the shoreline at Occoquan and each managed to catch one before it got dark. The fish went for about 1/4lb and 1lb. Karen caught hers on a shad colored senko and I caught mine on a two tone green senko. We worked the grass out in the river by tossing out fairly far into feeding frenzys where we saw baitfish hitting topwater. Got a lot of blue gill bites and I had one or two solid hits, one that ran with my line but I set the hook too early before he had the whole bait, just excited I guess. Anyway it was fun. Always nice to go out and cast a few and be able to pull one in on short time. Here are the pics. Karen had to give hers a little fish kiss before she let it go lol.
  9. Nice fish Johnny. That has a gut on it. I know what you mean with the fight. My pb was only 1lb 13 oz but it felt like I was snagged and it never really ran, it just bolted down torwards the bottom of the riverbed a couple times. I pulled him from a grass bed. It was weird cause I've had smaller bronzebacks fight twice as hard. Anyway regardless, I'm jealous man. Great job out there!
  10. Thanks flip. I'll do that boss. Don't have any fat ikas but I do have a lot of gycb dt grubs so I'll probably use those (though I don't have much of a color selection). But if those don't work I supposse I could use my trusty senkos like I do at Burke around the grass. I have plenty of cranks so I'll try it out. Appreciate the info man.
  11. That is awesome! Great stuff man. That was the best laugh I've had all day dude. Where do you guys come up with this stuff? Haha.
  12. Hey guys, how far a drive from Richmond is Lake Gaston? Looks like another hour or so. What launches are the closest to the nearest 95 exit if we were to be taking that road down? I'm thinking of hitting it maybe one day before the end of the fall. Do any of the launch ramps close for the off season? How much does it cost to launch? Lastly, is there any shorefishing available? I know you probably couldn't catch the big guys from shore if there is space, but it may be my only option depending on how cold the weather gets and how soon we may have to winterize the boat.
  13. Somebody probably caught the fish before you and placed em' in the stream thinking that it had all the specifications and such for the fish to thrive. Probably not the sharpest knife in the drawer that one was. Smallies are adaptive though. Does this stream freeze over at all? How long is the stream? Does it empty into another body of water? Did the fish you caught show any signs of having been caught before?
  14. Dang T-rig, you have some nice looking laremouth over there. I love the dark coloration of the top fin and the tail on that one. Doesn't that normally mean that that fish lives in deeper water or does not come shallow too often? Or is it just because the particular strain of largemouth that it is? What a fatty! I'm still waiting for my first 3lber, let alone 4. I'm fishing a private pond that my dad's friend from work owns this Sunday and there have been 7-8lb largemouths that come out of it. We have been in a drought for a long time now so it has been off limits to fishing the last few months (per the owners decision). But now it's open again for friends of the family and such because it is private and there are 3-4 land owners (each has a rights to the pond). I can't wait. I'm definately looking for my new pb this weekend. W00t!
  15. Look at this guy already trying to stir us up in our moment of glory! Shame on you!
  16. That's actually easy. It's because the opposing team has NO MATHEMATICAL chance of possibly winning the game because it doesn't go to the tenth. Football, any given team could kick a few onside kicks and throw a hail mary pass up in the endzone a few times to catch up. So it's POSSIBLE for them to catch up. Baseball it's not. Though the Skins would have had to do that like 8 times lol, but hey...
  17. Ok, not to sound like a jerk or anything but has anyone been watching football the last three years? Defense... Indy's defense? Remember the talk of the super bowl being about how Indy was the first team "without" a defense to win a superbowl? They lost two of their key secondary players in the offseason this year and have two rookies at cornerback now. You honestly believe Bob Sanders and these guys can stop and contain Randy Moss, Laurence Maroney, Wes Welker, Dante Stallworth, and the best QB in football Tom Brady? Brady is flawless guys, look at his td to int ratio and look at the spectacular throws Moss is hauling in in double/triple coverage. Look at the stats of the Colts and their offense this year, yes while impressive, they take a seat to the Pats. These guys are incredible this year and I'll go with KU on this one. The Pats win by double digits. If anyone has a good defense it's New England to compliment their stellar offense. Vrabel, Bruschi, Seymour, Harrison, Samuel, etc. This team is nasty. Even if Indy's offense can keep Brady off the field when he does get on he's gonna be well rested, ready to pick apart their D, and quick to go downfield. The Colts cannot keep up. Oh one more thing. Not to mention Manning has beat Brady ONE time in his career. Brady has owned him every other time. Some of those games were double digit wins too, before he actually had a recieving core.
  18. First year fishing here from Va buddy so I'm gonna fish until laked freeze over or I'm not catching anything anymore. But this has been the best month I've had all year so I ain't quitting yet. Send me a pm with your number and email man, maybe we can get together one night next week (early evening). My name is Jason. I appreciate all the info on the lake partner. So you think it would be fine to park in visitor parking? Can you send me directions to one of those lots from route 123? That would be cool. Thanks again man, hope to talk soon.
  19. So at Briery Creek on Sunday and I get hung up on this log jam with my senko. Instead of cutting the line I decide to reach down on my line and start pulling to see if I can pull whatever I'm stuck on up, or get the hook to snap off the line. I've been able to pull some heavy logs up with my Stren Series line. Anyway... I didn't realize that I'm standing in a decent pile of mud. As I'm leaning back and pulling I lose footing and start to fall back. Like an idiot I grab the tip of my pole which is not standing flat on the ground and fall back. Next thing you know I hear SNAP! And I look, fall on my butt and see a 1/4 of my rod snapped off laying beside me. I was so ticked. I had caught nearly 60 some odd bass on that d**n rod and it was my first bass pole I ever bought. Well, I reeled in my line and stored my reel in my tackle box for another day. Luckily I had just bought my new setup so I had a pole to finish out the day with. Go figure I didn't catch anything else. Anyway just thought I'd vent and share my story. My pole was a ML Shimano Scimitar 6'6". I will probably buy another one of these but with a faster action because the one I had was too d**n slow and the tip was very flexible (screwed up my hook sets). ::sigh:: So is life, huh fellas?
  20. That hurt. To this day I get nervous seeing Wakefield on the mound in the playoffs. Especially after he gives up those first couple of hits. Man I remember the days of Boggs... Mike Greenwell, Mo Vaughn, The rocket (who I dislike to this day... long story, let's just say he was a jerk to me one day as a kid and told me to F off after I asked him to sign a b-ball). Nothing beats the feeling of sitting in Fenway Park though and watching a game from deep down the third base line by the green monster. So we sweeped our last two world series opponents and made it look easy. Can we officially start to say if this team wins one more classic in the next 2 or 3 years that we are a dynasty? Kind of how the Pats did it... except they one a couple consecutively. But this team is young, can hit, and play the field. Pedroia, Ellsbury, Crisp, Drew, etc. If Manny and Papi stick around for a while with Varitek's veteran leadership and a solid pitching staff with young guys like Papelbon, Okajima and Del Carmen back there in relief... hey man. I don't wanna jump the gun and get ahead of myself. But this team is not one to be taken lightly over the next couple of years.
  21. Exactly. We are in the pros here. It's not little tyke football or high school where you simply just kneel the ball or show mercy to your opponent not to crush the other teams ego. These guys are paid to play. There was over 7 minutes left. Had there been 2-3 minutes, fine, kneel the ball. Let it go. It's up to your defense to learn how to stop these guys. I think the Skins D just basically was so drained and ticked off they just gave up. They have no one to blame other than themselves. And I'm not even a Pat's fan. I love the skins fans though. They know they have a great secondary but they think they can compete with the top AFC teams... NFC and AFC are worlds apart folks. NFC can't hang with these guys. They haven't been able to in years. My friend Jimmy bet me a bottle of Jack Daniels that the Pats would not score 30 points in this game. I took that bet QUICK!!! I called him up in the third quarter to ask if the Pats score 60 do I get two bottles? Haha. He said no and I let him get back to his grieving. Bottom line, this team is going undefeated. Even their second string players can beat first string teams as long as Welker, Morris, and that offensive line are out there. Crazy... this might be the best team in football in decades.
  22. Hey, welcome to the forums man. There are largemouth and smallmouth in that lake. It's basically a stem off of the Occoquan Reservoir. The reservoir (Occoquan) has a branch around Fountainhead that goes southwest after cutting across Davis Ford Rd, the PW parkway and Dumfries Rd. A little after Dumfries Rd it turns into Lake Jackson. The Rez has big flathead catfish, carp, bluegill, largemouth bass and some smallmouth bass. I heard that the runs after Lake Jackson (Broad and Cedar Run) are pretty good smallmouth fisheries, so I'd imagine that Lake Jackson probably holds some pretty nice smallies that move downstream with the current into the different branches and creeks. Haven't heard of anyone from the forums that fishes here or has land here.
  23. Hit a couple of local ponds yesterday. One in the morning with my dad, another in the evening by myself. Caught a total of three dinks at the two ponds. But between then my dad and I ventured over to Lake Ridge Marina and fished the docks and shoreline for a while. The cove to the left of the floating dock is now full of water (not sure of depth). The ramp is starting to get a lot more water at the end of it and the boats next to it were floating when I was there. Looks like it's starting to fill up quite a bit. I for one am excited. We need two more days of rain or so and we will be in bussiness here. My dad and I made our way around the shoreline to the left of the launch ramp and worked two coves (laydowns, stumps and fallen timber) with spinners, jigs, senkos, swim baits, shallow diving rapalas and deep diving shad raps. I ended up nailing one by a steep ledge of rocks on a point with my shad rap (blue gill pattern, dives 5'-9'). Ended up being 1lb 14oz. My second biggest fish out of Lake Ridge. Needless to say I was pretty excited as I haven't fished well from here this year. Here's the pic. Decided not to put the dinks up this time. Sorry about the closeup, it was real sunny and I only had my camera phone so it was tough trying to get the pic. I can't wait til' spring so I can rent a boat and launch out of the rez again. This coming Saturday I'm headin' out to Mattawoman one last time before my dad winterizes our boat. Hopefully do as well if not better as we did last time (2 largemouths each and one striper).
  24. Good job dude. Nice report. It sure was windy all day, and quite cold until the sun showed it's face late. My wife, my dad, two friends of mine and I all shorefished yesterday there for about 10 hours or so. I caught a pickerel on a Rapala Floater (about 11" long) and a small largemouth a little under a pound. My dad caught a 1lb 9oz largemouth at the pond behind the parking lot and my wife nailed a 1lb 4oz largemouth on a live minnow. It was tough fishing. I definately think the wind, the ambient temps and the post front conditions turned a lot of the fishing off. I tried a buzzbait alot in the morning, minnow type lures like rapalas, mann's crankbaits, bomber crankbaits, senkos, jigs and spooks. Barely any action. My friends had a bit of action on culprit worms by the stump area and cove near the parking lot (going back down that little narrow strip of water there). Definately not what I was expecting for my first trip here but I shouldn't have got my hopes up with the conditions I knew we would be facing. It was a lot of fun though. Long car ride for us, almost 3 hours each way. My wife surprised me and set this up for my bday so that was really cool of her. I thought they were taking me to Mattawoman but she knew I had wanted to try this place since early spring. Anyway, great job man and nice fish.
  25. Welcome to the fam Jerbs. That's an awesome boat you got there for just getting out on the water. I need one of those for the lakes here in Va. How much did that thing run you? You buy it new or used? Nice pig in that first pic. And that last one is not a dink where I live haha. Nice to have you aboard boss. Take care and tight lines.
