I've been home all day today.
Try 5 of these in 30 minutes while watching the Red and Seether tear it up at the House of Blues... Frickin' awesome. I was mosh pitting by the bar lol. Jager is a sleeper... it catches you like 10-15 minutes after you take a few shots.

Dredge Pipe structure
Good points guys. I just recently found a drainage pipe going across a cove at Lake Accotink in Springfield, Va and I ran a Mann's Shallow Running crankbait along it. First cast, BAM fish on. Looks like drainage pipes can hold fish. There is a dredge project going on in that lake and it has been since the late spring. Normally I spend most of my time fishing laydowns at Accotink but now I have this new area to work. This cove is in the back of the lake and the only people that ever see any of it are normally the bikers because the trees block the view.

the other 6 pounder
That's weird. That belly does look like a pre-spawn bass. What a gut on that one!

Occoquan Rez Update (Lake Ridge)
So I went out to Lake Ridge this morning despite all the off and on rain showers to see how this place was holding up. Wow is all I can say. The boat launch ramp is now completely out of water, all the jon boats that were once lined up at the boat dock, all on the dirt sandbar up front by the boat launch. The rez has to be down the most I've ever seen. I took some pics for those of you interested. The only place left to shore fish is the dock to the right of the boat launch which is still 100% in the water surprisingly because of how far out it goes. I fished there this morning and was lucky to catch two bass tossing some senkos over into a feeding frenzy. The first one I caught was a 2lb 3oz LMB on a purple senko worm rigged weightless and tex-posed. The second was a dink on a watermelon senko rigged the same way. Both were caught from just watching the bass tear up shad on the top water. Unfotunately I tried to get em' on a jitterbug and a Mann's shallow runner earlier in the morning but it didn't work. I though I was gonna get skunked but got lucky and caught both of the bass almost 30 minutes before I left for work. Here are the pics of Lake Ridge and the docks and ramps so you guys looking to launch can get an idea of how long it's gonna be before you can even attempt. Then the pics of the bass. First pic of the boat docks

Wedding photos
Thanks guys. Seeing as my girl is a tomboy in nature we both agreed it would be fun to go to Ohio... Why you ask? Football Hall of Fame, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, House of Blues, Seeing Jacobs Field and The Dogpound. Not to mention my wife was cool enough to surprise me night of game three of the Sox and Indiands Series and bought me tickets us tickets online to see my Sox play. As many Red Sox fans we have in my family since we are all from Mass, none of them ever saw an ALCS game live. It was such a cool experience. Even though they lost I had a great time taking in the moment. The first night in Cleveland after we drove up we actually saw Seether and the Red play at the House of Blues. The Red tore it up. They are so awesome live. For those of you who haven't heard em' check out the song "Breathe into me" on www.musicvideos.com Then we stayed at a resort an hour and a half south for 3 nights and 4 days on Lake Atwood where we chilled at the bar, had room service, after hours swimming in the jacuzzi and pool, free breakfast at the restaurant on the water, champagne (in our package), etc. It was awesome and it was nice to just be able to relax for a week, that was actually the best part. Those pics will be up later in this same thread when I get em' up online. Lots to do right now with thank yous, unpacking and preparing for our move to our new apartment in January. Anyway glad you guys enjoyed. Thanks for the comments again.

Wedding photos
Pretty sure this is gonna get moved but I said I'd share a few wedding photos from two weekends ago and I finally have some. All my buds on this site are within the southeast section so I just wanted them to be able to get a look instead of them most likely missing it in the everything else section. Hope you guys enjoy. Keep comments on the girls limited fellas, keep in mind it's my wife and sister in these haha. Sincere comments appreciated, jokes and laughs allowed: The Bridal Party Us pumping up the crowd Us cutting the cake, aftermath not included... haha The vineyard we got married at (Bellemount Vineyards in Warsaw, Va) No professional decorators were used, all done by the bride, her family and bridal party The sharp dressed man himself... gotta give myself a bit of credit. Where's my fishin' pole?!?!?! Two of the most beautiful girls in the world, my wife and my sister.

Lets Go Red Sox!!!
If you refer to my post before the Red Sox and Angels played their first game I believe I was the one who said we would go all the way. We are officially the come back kids! What an amazing series with a great team, and way for the young guys to come through. Dice K struggled in the fourth and fifth innings like he did in game three last Monday (I was there at Jacobs Field, my wife had bought us Red Sox tickets for game three while we were on our honeymoon, how awesome is that). He lost the stuff on his breaking balls and the Indians were starting to capitalize. However he got us through some tough binds and we held off the onslaught. Great play by Manny at second base to get Lofton, and what a rally late in the game. The bats are alive again after falling asleep in game two-five against the Indiands, and this time our whole lineup is hitting. If Papi and Manny come alive in this series its gonna be a masacre. The clutch guys like Varitek, Schilling, and Beckett have shown their composure and the Red Sox are ready to claim their second world series of the millenium. Let's get loud, let's get bold, let's get stoked.... LETS GO RED SOX!!!!

Mattawoman Creek, MD
Nice fish pops. Now that the wedding stuff is done (minus the thank yous and unpacking) I'm pretty much back on the water... not in full force yet but working on it. Can't wait to go out to the Potomac next weekend, should be fun. Good job on the swim senkos as usual. Hopefully we can fill up the live well next Sunday like we did last time out. Later dad.

Drop shot request
For all you drop shotters there who have some free time on your hands I have a favor to ask. Fall is around the corner and shortly thereafter is winter, the bass around here wills till be catchable but barely and to say the least they will be plain old inactive. I'm looking to get better at my deep water approach for the winter and for next summer and would like to give this drop shot a real go. I've attempted it before but the weight just snapped off the line along with the swivel. My question is first, what type of line do you guys use when doing this? What type of weight and how heavy of a weight? And what worms work best for this technique? Do you drag it like a carolina rig or jig, or do you just kind of shake it and let it sit like a shakey head rig? If you guys could answer my questions and then let me know if the following is the correct setup as this is how I've been attempting it: -hook tied on the main line with however much excess you want below the hook and before the weight -then swivel tied onto line -then weight attached to swivel (using basscaster weights) If anyone has pics of the way this rig should be set up PLEASE PLEASE post when you get a chance. Also what knot do you guys use to tie the hook onto the line? Normally the only knot I ever use regardless of the application is either the clinch knot or the improved clinch knot and normally it works well, except for this rig.

Shocked...
Un-freakin-believable. How in the world can you live with yourself doing this to an innocent family? I ask you this... your child is not breathing and is completely blue as you pull him out. You get him inside frantically trying to do cpr or call 911 and then there is a trail of water on the floor... are you going to stop what your doing and mop it up and dry the floor before ambulances get there? Be more careful on your job and pay attention to detail. I mean geez the other paramedics and stuff made it into the room fine. Oh no I may get arthritis... do you know how many americans face that as they get older? With computers being a part of everyday work for office individuals and us using our hands so much, or for manual laborers who constantly carry things around, you don't think the average american is gonna get it? I broke my leg when I was six oh oh, all of a sudden I'm worried my legs gonna have severe arthritis at fifty. Give me a break!!!

tubes, how do you fish them
I use 1/8oz jighead inserts so mine doesn't really sink that much. I normally toss it into the current and let it go downstream. It will get caught up in rocks or grass occasionally depending on the bottom however thats what I like about the wading I do, I'm normally in an area I can walk over and get it out of, unless its a deep hole. But even then if you let some line out or wiggle your rod tip and wait a few seconds a lot of the time it will come out of the hang up. When throwing into an area with boulders or a lot of underground structure I like to lift my rod tip up every few seconds or when I feel it come in contact to help guide it over what I'm throwing to. Normally on the lift on when I get over a piece of structure is the time I will get a bite. I've only fished two smallie rivers and caught a few handfuls of fish the few times I've been out but this technique seems to work well. I like zoom and venom for the tubes i use but I know tehre are better ones out there just these are the easiest to find around here. I never tried texas rigged, just seems weird to rig it like that unless they are solid bodied and not hollow.

Disheartening
Disheartening... yes LBH it is a word On to the subject at hand. I feel the same as you. I don't want to take sides because I like everyone here and learn stuff and take advice from each of you on a daily basis. But let's face it, some threads in the "everything else" section turn into arguments rather easily. And lately... whew it's just seemed like tension has blown over and people are really getting riled up. Threads get locked, posts become deleted, members are banned or decide to leave... it's a common occurence on any forum (I'm a part of a few). But we can't let that get us mad or upset. No one is singling any given person out at least as a mod. I think the mods here do an excellent job and warn us when we are getting out of hand. I know it's easier said than done and some of us have higher tolerances than others but we need to maintain composure if we decide to post on a controversial subject matter. Keep in mind no one HAS to post on any given thread, it's a choice. We know the rules, expectations and etiquette of the forum and just need to keep these things in mind when getting into a potentially "hot" subject matter. Not trying to be a parent or take the place of the mod but stating some things that people may want to think about before hitting that "post" button. I normally review my post one or two times for sentences or points where I think my tone may have seemed off or if I felt like I was pushing my view too hard or something. Just a food for thought. This place means the world to me and I'm just trying to help out. I wouldn't be the bass fisherman I am today if it weren't for you guys.

Lunch Break Blues...
A very small public pond in the Woodbridge/Dale City area... sorry man this is one honey hole I don't give out info on at least on the forums. If you wanna hook up and try it out sometime I'll show you where it's at. Just this place gets next to no pressure and I want to keep it that way.

Lunch Break Blues...
Got revenge this morning by chucking my Mann's Minus (frog colored) One outside of a thick bed and SMACK! I pull him in after a couple minutes and he went for 2lbs 4ozs. Not my best but in my top three. Andy if you chuck those things way out there by the time you rotate two or three times with the reel they slam it, thats if you don't get a reaction bite right away. I had two more fish hooked today bigger than the one I caught. One of which actually pulled drag almost for 20 or 30 seconds to mid pond, lost him trying to horse him in, but somewhere along the line I think I let my rod tip get too low and the hook came loose. I swear there are 4-5 lbers in here easy. Anyway, here's the pic:

Lunch Break Blues...
So it gets better now... I decide I'm gonna hit my local ond this evening after work for 15 minutes since my fiancee is shopping for shoes for the wedding. I only took my ole with my mann's crankbait tied on. Eleventh cast I toss it in a swirl where I see a bass cruising the pond by some mats... well.. he hit alright. I thought I was hung in a weed mat and started to reel in the mess... then a bass explodes out of the water and my pole dips. I fought him for about 2 minutes u to the rail, some guy fishing there helped me get him up. He snaps a pic with my camera phone (got my new chocolate phone from verizon last night). I didn't know you had to press save in order to save the pic. Get home and I realize what I had done. Sliding the phone closed deleted the pic he had just taken. I get home and it's not on there... unreal. The fish went for 2lbs and 14oz. Beat my pb by 6oz. Egh... what a day. So I have a new pb but it's just a fish story. Man was he a beauty. I was so excited. Got home and my face dropped when I realized the pic was gone. Well... the story of my day.

Lunch Break Blues...
Hey guys, so I went to one of my local lakes during my hour lunch break today. I never catch anything because I only have about 20 minutes to cast so I'm usually running and gunning over as much shoreline as I can (the closest available spot to where I parked). Well today I decided to walk a little more (power walk type deal) and go to this nice laydown I normally fish. I'm looking over to the side of the lake and I see this huge drainage pipe of some sort going smack right across the shoreline and it seems as if the ground drops off a little in front of it. So I take my Mann's Crankbait and I'm casting along side of it after I worked the shoreline for a few minutes. After about the third cast on this pipe and trying a couple of retrieves I have a bass pulling my bait down. I fought him for 5-6 seconds and then he surfaces. Jumps out head shaking back and forth and my bait flies out of his mouth and the bass dives back down. Incredible, I thought I had a great hookset on him and the Mann's baits have been pulling in some good fish for me lately. Ugh... needless to say not only did I have to go back to work but I had to think about that lost fish. PLUS I had to book it back to make it on time and d**n it was hot outside. It's almost 90 degrees and it's almost mid-october!!! GEEZ! Thought I'd share my tragic story and loss. I'm hitting that spot again tommorrow or Thursday during lunch and getting revenge on that fish!

A big Black Rat Snake - pics DUW
Awesome pics man, especially the one of the open mouth and the snake staring at you. Didn't realize wild black rat snakes got so big. Must be eating pretty well out there. Man I would love to find a snake like that while herping. I don't get to do it much here in Nova, especially as seeing we pretty much have only cottonmouths and northern waters around here unless you go further east or south. Makes me want to go home and get my cornsnakes out for some well needed play time. Thanks for the pics bud.

Educational
There is no substitute for experience. I lost tons of fish in my first few months fishing (early this summer) and still lose a few now. It's part of the game. A suggestion... learn one bait very well. I think the easiest to start with is a crankbait or a soft plastic. The reason for this is because with the crankbaits, you just wait til' you see your line moving and feel the pressure (most important), reel down to it and then pull up snapping the rod tip up. You know when you get a bite with this type of bait because if you retrieve it in a straight motion there will be a distinct and different motion of your line and you will feel the pressure. You just feel for anything out of the norm and don't hesitate to set the hook. Sometimes you may even believe your hung up, but it might be a fish just being stubborn and not wanting to come up, don't hesitate. It just takes the expereince of hooking a fish on one of these baits and you'll get it. My recommendation: A Mann's Minus 1 Shallow Running Crank and a Rat-L-Trap for deeper applications (as this can cover a lot of water and depth). Pick some different colors and judge how to use them based off water clarity and time of day. The soft plastic... theres nothing like that... "tug tug" feel on your line. Rig weedless or texas and wait for the couple of pulls on your bait, raise that rod tip up quick and pull hard. Hook sets are very dependent upon your hooks you use, the type of rod you have and the plastic you are using. Plastics that are a bit longer I like to wait til' that second tug or so before I ram the hook home (brush hogs, 10" power worms, etc), ones that are smaller like the 5" senkos I generally won't wait long at all to set the hook. I recommend EWG Gamakatsu worm hooks size 3-4 for plastic worms. Just start off small work one or two baits til' you get the feel of them and then move forward. Some guys like to focus on lots of baits at once, others spend as much time as a year or so on a particular bait and ONLY take that specific bait out with them to get a feel for it leaving the rest of their tackle at home so they are not tempted to use it. You will gain confidence in certain baits after a few outings and that my friend is the most important part of bass fishing. Confidence. Work hard and before you know it you'll be yanking them up to shore or puttin' em' in your live well. Good luck out there and hope some of this helps. I guess I should make my attempt at answering your question too... I haven't seen any videos and I've only read biography type books when it comes to fishing. I watch this show on www.lunkerville.com though and have seen a pro that makes appearances on this show regularly catch tons of bass using soft plastics. He has his own site and his own dvd collection, the main one being "How to Fish Soft Plastics Like a Pro". His name is Mike Delvisco. I don't know whether many people have found this video useful but I've been thinking about picking it up because he teaches you how to rig (many ways) and how to run each particular bait. After watching his technique on the show and listening to him he sounds incredibly knowledgeable about bass in general and the baits he uses. His site is www.bassbytes.tv. Lunkerville is actually surprisingly helpful as well, I've learned a lot from the average joe weekend warrior fishermen that make appearances on that show each week. Some provide some pretty good tips on how they fish (mostly northeast united states, but some mid atlantic and southern state areas). The video is all free and streaming online, so just plug in headphones and check it out. Each of the 22 episodes or so is about 30 minutes long. Other than that, if you want some good info on learning how to fish for bass this site is huge and helped me a ton. Go to the article section. Seeing as we are in fall mode now, I would focus a bit on learning what to expect in this particular season, what baits work the best, what is a "turnover period" and how to judge whether or not your lake or river may be going through that right now. Look at the tips on how to work the baits, etc. This site is unbelievable and you'll be surprised how much you can learn in even a day. I learn something new every time I get on here. It's incredible. Last but not least, If you have any questions don't be afraid to ask no matter how dumb you might think they may be, trust me. Someone in here can answer almost every question you have, and if they can't they will point you in the right direction.

Cowboys/Bills
I like how the one game that everyone was going to tune out this year on Monday night turned into the best Monday night game of the year thus far. How bout' that Bills Defense? Forget the Coboys D. Five picks... but Romo came through when it counted and the only thing that matters is if you can get your team the W and put the ball in the endzone. What an ending... the fact that the Boys missed the 2 point, then got the onside kick, Terrell's catch was overturned, then Romo completed 2 more in 13 seconds... the Bills iced the first kick, but then Folk made it AGAIN!!! Best ending to any game I've seen in a lonnnnnngggg time. Craziest thing for you fantasy players... the Bills racked up 30 friggin' points this week for their D/ST.... did anybody draft them???? I doubt it... lol. For having a bunch of second and third string no bodys on that team, that D is looking amazing the last few weeks.

what is this?
I guess looking at the fins and the face of the fish I could see that now. Just looks a bit different from the ones I've seen caught. Good call though Bt. Makes sense with all the brush and pilings of wood that there are around this particular lake. Pretty cool. Time to bust out those Mepp's spinners haha. Maybe I'll try some next time I'm out and on that side of the lake.
