Possible 7 LB Bass... 2010 PB forgot the scale
Caught this bass last night on a 10 inch weightless purple robo worm. This bass was probably pound for pound the most SLUGGISH bass I have ever caught. He would pull drag but did not seem to swim all that quickly. He would also come to the top and thrash around but did not do any jumping like a lot of bass do. I was able to have this fish landed in under 1 minute. Again I did not have a scale with me but this fish measured 22 inches long. I just guessed on the wait so dont be afraid to say "thats a 5 pound bass" because I wont get mad like a lot of people do. I did not have a scale so I could be mistaken.

Topwater popper bite has been on!
Yeah I agree with this. There are also many other ways you can work a popper. Just like there are many ways you can work most baits. What I said was one example of a retrieve that worked for me... Anyway I am glad I did teach you a retrieve that you may want to try out.

Got Skunked
Find out where the fish are. Learn the structure that is in the lake and what structures the fish hang out around. Ask other fishermen at the same lake where the best places to fish are and what baits they are using and how they are using the baits. Try different lures with different retrieves. There is always more than one way to work any lure. Do not keep doing the same thing if it is not working.

Topwater popper bite has been on!
Caught all these fish the past few days on poppers. I used Lucky Craft G Splash and the Rapalla Skitter Pop. This bass was hungry! Just inhaled it. I have found I can only seem to catch good numbers of bass on the Lucky Craft G Splash and the Rapalla Skitter Pop poppers. I think that is because you can get a different action with these two poppers than you normally would with other poppers. The G splash I would most of the time not even really pop the lure but just sit it on top and twitch it 2-3 times then let it sit and twitch it 1 time, then twitch it 2-3 more times. I would normally do this on a somewhat slow retrieve with a couple second breaks between the twitches. I hope other people have been catching topwater bass too.

What is the WORST BAIT?
Never seen those before. I have caught bass on purple senkos late at night though but purple seems to be a great color for plastics at night? Do you know what the purpose of pink plastics are anyway? Someone else told me they are better lures for mid day.

Barrett Lake So Cal 7/7/10
Wow a 10 LB 2oz bass from there. I did not think there were any bass over 10 in that lake. That is by far the biggest one I have seen caught from Eastlake. Now adays that place has a very strong population of carp, koi, and catfish but not a strong population of bass. There are still some big ones in there but they are smart. You should try carp/catfishing in that lake in the fall/winter months. I have caught a bunch of carp over 10 lbs out of there and some over 15 lbs. I also pull out a lot of 6-8 Lb cats from that place.

What is the WORST BAIT?
LOL... dude im only refering to the original rattle trap. The Captiva "Vibe" Rattle trap is my favorite fall/winter lure.

What is the WORST BAIT?
I am going to have to go with the Storm Kickin Slab. This looks great in the box and it only costs around $3. It looks like a cheap alternative to the Castaic Bluegill on the shelf at the store. However when you put this bait in the water it swims on its side with almost no action at all. In addition to this it sinks like a rock and gets hung up no matter how deep of water you fish this in. I think this lure is in the bottom of the big box at my house that contains my extra spools of line and other stuff I never take fishing with me. Has anyone else here managed to catch a bass on this lure? Another lure that is useless would be the original rattle trap. I have caught a ton of bass on that $3 rapalla rattle trap and I have also caught a ton of fish on the $10 Captiva "Vibe" rattle trap which I think is the best late fall/winter bait in existance but I cannot catch anything but plants, weeds, sticks on the original.

matt lures yes or no
There is only one downside to Mattlures Baits... Losing them to snags

Fishing Superstitions
If you fish a lake that does not contain fish... you will have a bad day.

Barrett Lake So Cal 7/7/10
Wow I am suprised there are not more comments on this thread. You got some great fish. What were the size's of the 1st and 3rd bass you posted? Also belive it or not I know your son Shayne personally. I met him fishing at eastlake pond and have fished with him quite a few times. Tell him Steven congratulates him on the nice fish he caught too.

I've Gone Wacky, and I'll Likely Never Be the Same...
I rig senkos "wacky" but not like that. I usually use a small hook going from side to side of the body of a senko. I am going to try that set up in that pic though next time i fish. I have never seen that before and I bet it has an action the fish have not either.

4th of July Weekend Fishing
Actually I usually get my biggest fish landed. Infact I am sure most people get their biggest fish landed on most outings. Its just you hear it so often because people always mention it and complain on the occasions when the biggest fish actually does get away. The biggest bass/carp/catfish/trout I have ever hooked into I actually was able to land.

4th of July Weekend Fishing
I caught all the fish in this post on July 2nd, 3rd, 4th. For some reason I decided to fish A LOT over the 4th of July weekend. I was just too lazy to make a post about it til now largely because I was too lazy to upload my pictures to tinypic.com. Sorry I have not been posting as much as I used too. I just have not been fishing as much recently. I find it odd that once I get good at any particular activity I do it less... I think I need to make a new challenge for myself to achieve in fishing to motivate myself to fish more. Anyway here are my catches from the 4th weekend. I got out for a couple hours or so each day for the 3 days. Most of these fish were caught on 10 inch robo worms, flukes, and one was caught on a original floating rapalla. Nothing big but these 1-3 lb fish were fun to catch on spinning gear. BIGGEST ONE OF THEM ALL Probably the biggest fish of the weekend for real. Was a fun weekend of fishing... Too bad I had a 4-5 LB bass come unhooked though. The fish I lost was by far the biggest one I hooked into but all in all I had a good haul.

HAMMERED THEM AGAIN!
LOL@ The old man and cameras part... Hey your uncles attempt at useing a camera is 10x better than any of Avids pictures ever were...

Nice finess fish from sunday
Caught this one on sunday finess fishing with a weighless robo worm on sunday in a pond that has a lot of sunken brush. Put up a very good fight for a 4 pound fish... I thought it was a catfish at first because it just wouldent come to the top like a bass would normally do. It also made long straight runs from side to side like catfish do. Was a fun catch. I also got a couple 12 inch dinks as well... It was also odd that this bass hit the worm almost as soon as it hit the water... This fish measured just over 19 inches.

10lb from Friday

First Time Out In the Boat - Hawg of the Year
Dave glad to see you still make good posts. Has your dad registered an account at bassresource.com yet? Just wondered since he seems to enjoy fishing as much as you do and is in a lot of your reports.

lures for female L.M. on bed?
Mattlures Bluegill. The model that sinks and sits with its head on the ground. Yeah its an expensive lure but it will get that big femail bass to bite. People already seemed to have mentioned this bait but from what I have noticed you do not need the jig afterwards. If you let the bluegill dive to the bed and twitch and move it the female will often hit it.
