First Fish of 2009!(Multiple species)
Very first fish caught in 2009. Common carp probably around 2.5- 3 lbs caught on New years day! First Largemouth bass of 2009. Wow what a toad.... possible state record here! First fish of 09 I can say I am proud of. Got him on the 3rd of January Caught this catfish bread and he put up a great fight on 10 Lb test and medium spinning gear. He made 3 nice long runs as well as flopped on the top of the water. It was dark at the time and I could hear his tail slapping the water when he was probably 30 feet out. I wish I had a scale for this fish. I would guess he was in the 7-8 LB range though. Not caught in 2009. This was my very last fish of 2008 and he was a good one. Good way to end a year. Caught on December 30th

Probably my most odd catch ever...too bad didnt have a REAL camera
To be honest the most important thing is to find a school of carp while they are feeding. They seem to travel in schools. Once you find them you can catch them with small bread balls, dough balls, or sweet corn on a medium size hook. I usually use owner hooks. Once I have found a school of feeding carp I will sometimes chum the area. I heard this isnt legal in SOME lakes though but in these two places its ok. This keeps the carp feeding in the same spot and will attract more....Carp fishing is actually the most simple type of fishing there is...The key is to just FIND a school thats feeding...

No.... I actually have caught all of my kois from two public lakes. One of them was origionally stocked with bass, catfish. bluegills, koi and is catch and release only... The lake I caught this fish out of was stocked with bass, catfish, bluegills and the kois were put in there a long time ago but were never meant to be put there. I think they grew too big for someones pond and the owner dumped them in the public lake. Also there is a HUGE population of common carp in this lake. I catch about 10 common carp for every koi I catch in this place. The population of common carp and koi has realy taken off. This lake is the best carp hole in the San Diego area. Hope this clears things up...

Probably my most odd catch ever...too bad didnt have a REAL camera
Well.... I had a great day of fishing this day... and caught by far the most odd fish I have caught in my life. However I wanted to kick myself at the end of the day for forgetting my didgital camera. I also caught this fish when it was almost completely dark and had to have my friend take the picture with his phone. I was fishing with two friends this day and neither of them had a camera. Also this is probably the only trip I made all year without my camera.... I caught this guy about 3 weeks ago.... The fish in the picture is some kind of koi or goldfish that is pure white with amazingly long fins. Two other people have caught and released this exact same fish. The fish weighed a little over 9 LBS but the fight was not all that great. I think this koi's long fins hinderd him in the fight. Still it was a realy cool catch... Yeah the picture is terrible.....forgot the camera. My face isnt even in the photo so realy its not realy proof I caught it so youl have to take my word for it. With a camera phone and no flash there was no way we could get a picture of me and this fish so my friend had to zoom in on the fish.... Anyway pauls photo skills rival Avids in my opinion

Nice white and orange koi as well as some other cool catches from the last 3 weeks.
Small hook baited with just bread, dough, or corn. I have been catching them between 5-20 feet out in that lake. The key is just to find them....and find them when they are feeding. If you can find feeding carp you will have a good day...

Wasnt this the same day you got skunked?..... yeah they were technically in an hour....First hour I was skunked too. 2nd hour got the 3

patience = skunked
Well guys what you said is right too. Location IS important but the same thing applies to location. Keep moveing around as well until you find a spot thats produceing. Dont sit all day in a spot that isnt produceing. Yeah I forgot to mention location in my post and I agree with you all it is very important. If a location isnt produceing then try another one. Also in each spot try out different baits....

strangest things caught?

patience = skunked
Well the old saying is that patience is the most important thing in fishing. What I have found though is patience will often get you skunked especially for bass fishing. Sometimes people will go out and throw the same lure with the same retrieve for hours at a time without luck and yet they stick to it. When I fish for bass il start with a lure and maybe mix up the retrieve a bit. Il fish the lure for maybe 20-25 minutes and if the fish dont want it il try another lure. I keep changeing my lure until something produces. If somethings not working why keep doing it?

Yeah he put up a good fight on my ultralight with 4 LB test. On UL gear those big bluegills are fun.

first bass on jig!
I got my first Jig bass this past spawn. However it is much easyer to catch a bedding bass on a jig. Great job. I use a $20 berkley didital scale. The spring ones are not reliable. However that big fish is at least 8 LBS which is still a hawg. Great catch

Nice white and orange koi as well as some other cool catches from the last 3 weeks.
First off sorry I have not been on much recently... Got this nice white koi about 5 feet out on some corn. Got him on a medium action spinning set up and he put up a great fight even though he did not make for any long runs... Nice hand size bluegill on a rooster tail One of three 4-5 LB carp I caught in an hour on the same day...These small carp fight well for their size. The carp had a great spawn in this lake recently and there are many around this size One of two nice catfish I caught this past saturday.. I was fighing for carp with dough balls at the time and ended the day with two catfish and only one carp. This catfish was the first catfish I ever caught that jumped clean out of the water... Second catfish I caught on saturday. When I hooked into this guy I could have sworn I had a 10LB+ carp. This catfish fought amazingly hard on the medium spinning gear and 8 LB test. I remember him makeing 3 long runs. This catfish was very healthy and was very thick accross the middle which does not show in the picture.... Not realy been doing any bass fishing the last three weeks. Two cold fronts have moved through recently makeing bass fishing very slow. Funny thing though is after a cold front moves through the carp and catfish fishing improves while the bass fishing gets worse..... I dont mind though as long as I can catch a fish of any species....

Caught my first MIRROR KOI today
LOL ROFL LMAO The person in my avatar is me but that photo was taken over a year ago. I started going to the gym and eating more healthy soon after my avatar picture was taken and have lost close to 40 LBS since then. My avatar picture is over a year old. I guess I should take it as a compliment as long as your not saying my avatar picture or this new picture are two different people. If so thanks for the compliment Def a compliment, didn't mean for it too sound rude. Yeah its cool thank you

Caught my first MIRROR KOI today
Its not a 10Lber. The one in my avatar was 12 pound 11 oz and was twice as big as this one. I am just holding this guy WAY out to show more detail and make him look bigger in the picture. Thanks for the compliment on my photography lol

Best and hardest fight you EVER had with a fish?
Well mine does not sound like a fish of a lifetime either like the guy who got the 350 LB swordfish. However the fact that we were both using ultralight gear was what made our fights our hardest for us. Anyway sorry roadwarrior for putting in wrong section

Best and hardest fight you EVER had with a fish?
What was the hardest fight you ever went through with a fish? What I am saying is in your fishing experiance what one fight was the most difficult and can you describe the fight? Why was this one fish the most difficult fish to land? It does not have to be the biggest fish you have caught or even biggest of a sigle species...just most difficult and challenging to fight. For me the hardest fight I had with a fish came from a bright orange koi that was just over 10 LBS. I am not talking about the one in my avatar the avatar fish was 12LBS 11oz. The fish I am talking about was just over 10 LBS. The reason this fish was the hardest to catch was becasue I was useing an ultralight set up and 4 LB test mono line. I had another medium action spinning set up with 10 LB test with me that day but hooked the 10 LB koi on the UL rig. I saw the fish in the area of my bait to and when I set the hook I did not think I could land the fish. The part of the lake I was in had about 20 feet to the opposite shore(island in the middle) and there was a load of brush on the opposite side. I had to put much more pressure on the 4 lb line and 10 lb fish than I was comfortable with but I was able to turn the massive koi away from the brush 3 times by changeing his direction. I was able to steer the fish into a more open part of the lake and then I had the option to let him run more. The fish made some long runs. One of the runs he made when I was about to get him in the landing net. I was eventually able to land the 10 LB fish on 4LB line and got the picture. I will find it and post it soon. This fish was not the biggest fish I ever caught or biggest koi I ever caught but it was the most challenging fight I have had in my life with a fish because of the gear I was working with. That fish would have been no problem with my usual spinning gear. What was the best fight you guys have ever had with a fish?? Yes I know Fish Chris beats me and everyone else by a mile with that 100 LB sturgeon he get on like 10 LB test or something like that though...but yeah thats not hard when your fish chris

Anybody Snag Fish?
You dont have to snag carp. They are actually easyer to get to bite than bass especially if there are loads of them in the lake. You wait til evening and look for a spot where the water is cloudy. You will probably see some carp in the area too. If the water is cloudy the carp are feeding. They will take simple baits like bread and corn. Just use a circle hook and spinning gear. Snagging is kind of lame man unless its accidental.

Why I love my girlfriend.
If that is a 10LB catfish its a nice catch. The problem is there is no way to tell from the picture. If you are fishing by yourself and do not have a self timer on your camera or do not know how to use it then put your rod and reel on the ground next to the fish to show the size. There is no way to tell if a fish is 10LBS or 10 inches with dirt or grass behind it.
-
10lb bass!!!
Is that the rod he used infront of him? If so I doubt its an ultralight rod. 30LB braid and lure that size would not work well with an ultralight rod anyway. Anyway its a nice fish. I did not think it looked 10 LBS at first then I looked at how the pic was taken and saw hes not holding it out that much. Your dad also seems like a bigger guy too so it probably is a 10 or very very close. I do not blame him for keeping that fish or getting it mounted. Me personally I would release any fish thats not at least a state record but I do not blame a person for keeping a fish every so often. Its a 10 LB bass and probably his first one. A lot of people would get a mount of that... good job to your dad.

Caught my first MIRROR KOI today
I have no clue how big mirror carp get. They get pretty big though since I have seen pics online of people with 20 LBers. I know Kois get big as well. The one in my avatar was 12 lbs 1 oz. I remember weighing that fish. Common carp get huge. I caught one that was 34 inches and probably over 18 lbs. They get over 50 Lbs though. Kois usually grow to a much smaller size than common carp that I know for a fact. I do not know about how big mirrors usually get apart from that I have seen pics of them in the 20 LB range. To complicate things this fish I caught it a mirror koi so I am just clueless as to how big it will get. What is also odd is there are three mirror kois in this lake I have seen. There is this one. A white and yellow one around the size of this one, and another orange one that is quite big maybe 8-10 lb range. Now the strange part about that is that I have NEVER seen a pure non koi mirror carp in that lake ever so I dont know how these fish came to be at all.... Maybe someone dumped them in the lake I honestly do not know. Hopefully Fish Chris or someone who knows about fish biology will look at your question and be able to tell you how big a fish like this can get. I would like to know myself actually...

Caught my first MIRROR KOI today
Wow my first post in over a month. I have been fishing every couple weeks or so but not real had time to post on here. I also have not caught anything too exiting recently Was fishing with bread pretty close in when I caught this fish today. There were several carp in the 2-8 lb range feeding. I saw this koi and a large white one in the area too. I saw this fish swim close to my bait and start to feed from the bottom. Usually when a carp pick up a ball of bread he will run. I noticed this carp feeding and the line start to move very slow. I mean VERY slowly. He was still feeding with my bait in his mouth. I figured I would try to set the hook and hooked him well. The fight was not all that difficult. I was using 10 LB test on medium action spinning gear. The fish only actually made one long run. It seems to me Kois fight a lot less hard than normal carp. Now the great thing about this fish was he was both a Mirror and Koi carp I think. Look at the huge scales he has going along different parts of his body. That is a mirror characteristic. I do not know how much the fish weighed because I forgot the scale. He looks bigger in that pic because I held the fish out as far as I could to try to show the viewer the unique scale pattern and colors.... This picture gives a better idea of the real size of the fish....
