First Snakehead of the year
Nice catch! I was being generous like I stated, it's no more than 5 though, I've handled alot of SH's and weighed my fair share, I'm certain this one was 4 1/4, the picture just makes it seem a little bigger... Here's a 36" from 06

First Snakehead of the year
They can grow over 40" but round here 35-37" is usually where they max out at and those are the males, unlike bass the females typically stay smaller than the males, during the pawning seasons the females will get light and the snakelike pattern on them will really stand out whilst the males get really dark brown.

First Snakehead of the year
The variety commonly sold in stores is the Giant, (Channo Micropeltes) which does require warmer water to survive, the Northern is a sub tropical species which is why they can survive our winters.

First Snakehead of the year
Went out to my spot for 2 hours today, ended up banging out 10 bass, 1 nice 1.5lb Crappie, a gold fish, and the first snakehead of the year! Caught her on a 4'6" ultralight rod with 4lb FC line, one hell of a fight let me tell you! At first I though I had tail snagged a carp with the crappie tube I was using but those doubts were soon put to rest when she came torpedoing out of the water, I immediate loosened up on my drag as I knew this fish could easily snap the line. I played with here for a good 8 minutes before my buddy landed her for me, she was dissected and her stomach contents examined, she was also full of eggs! If I had to guesstimate I'll be generous and say she was around 24" and 4lbs

Pitch Skip and Skipping on a Baitcaster?
Bingo... also you should practice with a solid frog without legs or a beaver with the claws cut off. They have good mass and skip easier than most. Glad I made sense to some so far

Braided line on a baitcaster
More like throw that rod out! ;D Quality guides will not get damaged from braid What what did you have that had issues with the braid if you dont mind me asking?

Pitch Skip and Skipping on a Baitcaster?
I skip with the same settings I cast with, but I make sure I compensate for the bait slowing down when it hits the water by raising my hand and reel straight up and in a backwards pendulum motion as it skips If that makes sense to you at all

New Rapala Shift Rods (Canada)
Looks really good, limited rod selection, questionable blank quality like Dan said and heavy for a rod of it's size... But d**n it does look good..

Braided line on a baitcaster
Trust me, it is possible with any diamater braid. ;D Yup Dan when I spooled your 50 on I got a backlash and in the process of getting it out the line buried itself so deep into the spool that I had to cut all but half of it off just to be able to free my line... That's cause you weren't good at casting back then. ;D Besides, he's not talking about backlashes, this is a separate issue. I know but my point is that filament lines dont dig in so deep even on a bad backlash and you gotta admit, a week into using a BC I was a champ

Braided line on a baitcaster
Trust me, it is possible with any diamater braid. ;D I guess so, but I think the wider diameters seem to help. "That's what she said"

Spiderwire Ultracast Fluorocarbon (good/bad)?
it really is all about personal preference, if it works well for you and you find it to be in your price range than go for it, If you try it and feel like it just doesn't stack up than go with one with a good fan base like trilene 100%, seaguar, or even a copolymer line like Yo-Zuri hybrid. Fishing is all about trial and error if you try the spiderline and dont like it, then at worst you're out what $10? But if you're throwing BC gear i highly recommend the hybrid 10-12 and for spinning I like to use trilene 6
