Peacock Bass Fish Kills
If im not mistaken the canals are mostly limestone or coral? But the water clarity and shallow depths means the rocks heat up and retain alot of heat and in the summer game fish cant tolerate the high temps and non native cichlids are the ones most suited in them. Im sure even now in the canals the temps are a little higher than the reservoirs and retention ponds, the canals should be the pbass safe haven I was out at Sawgrass on Wednesday and can confirm 1000s of tropical fish kills including Mayans which don't die off until about 52 degree water temp far below any survivability of Peacock. While there are not a lot of peacocks in that system, I think you can safely assume that the Everglades canals (Miami, L-67, the Alley) will have similar temps and similar fish kills including peacocks that are in those systems). If the canals, primarily down in Dade have connection to the Biscayne Aquifer, the temps will usually stay above 60 in those canals and the peacock will survive. Those that have migrated north in Broward, Palm Beach will be hit hard. This is what was originally intended for the Peacock when they were introduced by FWC Thanks for the info! I'm actually planning a trip next month and you seem to know the area, where would my best bet be to catch a pbass in winter down there?

Sufix Mono elite or siege
Just the thread I was looking for, I knew elite was good stuff but didnt know siege was pretty good as well. I like an abrasion resistant line so looks like I'll go with siege on my cranking rod

Spoonbill Fishing
Do you eat the spoonbills? IMO snagging non nuisance fish is unsportsmanlike , I'm quite aware that they rarely take prepared baits but so be it... But the proper snagging rig is exactly as Volfan described...

I cant wait until it's warm enough to hit blue plains, I imagine burning a blade bait through the piling would produce big time!

Its pretty snaggy on the bottom out there, most I was able to shake free but eventually the river demanded payment for the bass caught

It's not a silver buddie its a similar blade bait i got off ebay, it has great action and puts out tons of vibrations and is cheaper at 5 for $10 shipped, I was throwing the 1/2 oz and lost all five i bought on snags....but a rattle trap would work too http://cgi.ebay.com/5-Blade-Baits-bass-walleye-Free-Shipping-you-pick-size_W0QQitemZ290381186702QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item439c11468e I'm down for going whenever just let me know when you want to go

They were mostly cookie cutter 2's I just wished the one that looked 6 didn't shake loose, most of them hit 3 feet off the bank

NOVA Fishing report 1/7
Went out to Four Mile Run today for 2 hours to try out my new combos and some new baits (blade baits I got on ebay). Started off throwing the 1/2oz blades I got and on the third cast i had one strike it just so gently right on the bank and after a sluggish fight he was landed, I't felt and looked over four but I dont have a scale.. Not too long after that I started tearing it up with the blade bait, I started out with 5 and lost them all, here are the blade fish, each is a different one About now was when I lost the last blade (gotta remember to buy more of them! Switched over to rattle traps and it produced also, I had one that musta been 4.5 follow all the way to the bank and turn back. On on traps I landed 2 crappie and one bass All in all an excellent day for me, 7 bass & 2 crappie landed. Had 3 bass on and shook off the blade, one looked to be at least 6!...and missed mulpitle hits and followers, I'm going to head back out there tommorow if anyone is interested.
