  1. My fish finder has two pieces, a transducer and then a little reciever. However, I would think you could screw both of them onto the same mount. so I believe you would only need one bracket. However, I know some fishfinders put both the transducer and reciever together in to one. but you dont have many transducers in different parts of the boat when you have only one fishfinder. Its really actually quite simple. Once you buy your fishfinder it will all be very clear. Trust me when I bought my fishfinder all my questions were answered. Also it may be a good idea to talk to the expert at bass pro or whatever outdoor store you go to. They can help you find what you need and explain exactly what your buying and how to install it. GOOD LUCK
  2. ok it didn't work I dont know how to do the link thing http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0000844010095a&type=product&cmCat=SEARCHFEAT_all&returnPage=search-results1.jsp&Ntt=transducer+bracket&Ntk=Products&sort=all&_D%3AhasJS=+&N=0&_D%3Asort=+&Nty=1&hasJS=true&_DARGS=%2Fcabelas%2Fen%2Fcommon%2Fsearch%2Fsearch-box.jsp.form1&_dyncharset=ISO-8859-1
  3. i am going to try to attach the link to the bracket. HOPE IT WORKS. 4. I have my transducer on my trolling motor. I bought a trolling motor transducer mounting kit a bass pro shops for 15 bucks. You could use this but i think it would be too much of a pain to get it on and off. If I were you I would look into the "portable transducer bracket" from cabelas. you can probably look it up on cabelas website. I think its around 40 dollars. but that is well worth it considering portable ones are around 40 dollars more. Also I am not a huge fan of portable fishfinders. most come with a suction cup. The suction cup tends to fall off. As far as the fish finder type, I am not really sure which one is best for you but I have a hummingbird 535and I really like it. GOOD LUCK and I hope I helped a little bit.
  5. When I winterize my mercury I drain the fluids. replace all except gas and water. then place in my garage on a stand with a blanket on top. also if your engine 2 cycle I would put in your truck although im sure you already knew that.
  6. the difference in price between a used 3.5 and 5 hp shouldn't be that much. so I would go for a 5. but yeah I agree with Dougherty go big. ;D ;D
  7. i would try looking at tinboats.net there are a LOT of great pictures and showings of boats that have been redone.
  8. Thanks a ton for all the help. I really do appreciateit. Thanks for the picutures too. A picture's worth a thousand words, but only if you can understand it. And your pictures are easy to understand, your explanations helped a lot too. Now I am ready to begin my livewell. Thanks and have fun with your boat. JOE
  9. Well, I was wondering how you get the water in and out. Do you bucket it in or do you use a livewell pump? I am not quite sure how I want to do the livewell plumbing and I want to see what others have done before I start poking holes, cutting pipe, etc.
  10. Hey all. Quick question. I have a 2000 explorer. I now pull my 16 ft jon boat w/ a 25 hp mercury with my dads truck. However, I just bought my explorer and was wondering if I can pull my boat using the bumper or if I should put some money into buying a hitch for the explorer. Thanks in advance.
  11. Wow VERY NICE. The scary thing is i am doing a 16 footer and my front deck design is almost the exact same layout. I am assuming that the white cover is a livew :ell. If so that almost my exact design. Now if I can only get mine to look like yours. BTW I am having a little trouble with my livewell. :-? What did you do with yours. (As far as the plumbing goes) Thanks in advance
  12. My fishing buddy the x52 on his boat. It always works great when I have fished with him and he likes it. Obviously its not a HUGE screen but its big enough for most bass fishermen. MY favorite part about the x52 is its contrast of types of bottom. With a little experience I can easier to see the difference between a soft bottom and rock bottom. I have a hummingbird 565 its works great for me but it gets some "fuzzy" readings at times and it gets hard to tell what kind of buttom it is and type of stucture. the lowrance is always clear and has a very defined bottom. hope this helps some JOE
  13. I am putting a livewell on my boat. I have the basic design. However, I was simply wondering whether I should put thru hull fitting and pump in the back of the boat and pump up to my livewell. (the livewell is in the middle of my 16 ft boat) or if I should put the hole in the hull next to my livewell. I am not sure if the type of boat matters but its a 16 ft mod v lowe with a 50 hp mercury. ??? what would you do? :-? :-?
  14. I have been fishing from a canoe for a couple years now. But I got a new used boat saturday, so no more paddling for me. 8-) Its a Lowe 16 ft. It came with a mercury 25 hp. The year is like late 90s I think 1999. The best thing was it was 2000. so that was good. has decent carpet job, new trolling motor, and 2006 hummingbird fish finder. The engine needed a simple tune up and it ran like new. I think this was a good deal. I really cant find anything I dislike about the boat. ;D I just had to tell some fellow fishermen.
  15. Hey wats up I am also from the charlotte area. Huntersville to be exact. Don't have any room right now but you might want to check out a local marina. Alot of times they have billboards filled with people wanting fishing buddies. Ncangler has lots of folks from charlotte area. also call a guide, they know 100s of people with boats. and I am sure they might be willing to split fuel cost. Considering that its not exactly cheap. I hope this helps. :) JOE
  16. Everyones personal best involves a little luck. Mine was luck. I had a 5 inch brim that i had caught earlier that day and I put it on a 7 foot surf rod. put the fish on the hook and open the cast bar and just let the fish swim around some grasses. halfway through reeling in my normal rod the rod went tight. 12 lb largemouth. I Got mad too just take your time. by the way 5.5 lb bass isn't too shabby. GOOD LUCK. JOE
  17. I typically fish right after the first cold front. down here in NC the fish start chowin down for winter right after this first cold snap. In the lake I fish in the fish eat topwater and fake worms. don't know about the fish where you live but here right after that cold snap its like spring feeding. everything works. Hope this helps. JOE
  18. Its good to know I am not alone. My years experience in fishing is not in the double digits so i still have a lot to learn. I have fished those ponds and it sure is fun every once in while. but when everybody is pulling in 5 lb bass (including the girl with the barbie rod) then the 5 lb bass becomes an average fish. When I pull a 5 lb bass at the local lake it is a big fish. I think it might be okay to fish there for you first couple times but if you get used to pulling huge bass everytime you don't know what real fishing is. Fishing is not going to be perfect everyday. JOE
  19. The one thing that drives me crazy is when people brag how they caught 10+ huge bass. Then when I ask em where they end up telling me that it was in a pond which is known to be stocked. For example, This kid I know showed to me a 6 lb bass he caught at a local golf course pond. Of course when they learn you average a lower fish count then they do they act like there big and bad. I don't know it just drives me crazy. I took that kid out for a day on real fishing on the lake with some of my lake fishing buddies and we averaged 9 fish each and he catches two tiny bluegill. We didn't go bragging two him and we were just as proud as ever. Nothing against pond fishing, it is fun, you just can't compare fish counts of a stocked pond with a lake. Just wanted to throw this thought out there. JOE
  20. Its been a little slow here in NC. typically I dont fish for bass in august anyway in august the cats are typically what I go for. However one day I felt like bass so put some jigs out there. piedmont NC 15 in 3 hrs 1.5 pd avg around 16 Idknow biggest lmb I think was a 6 lb smb I caught a 5 lb
  21. I live in NC, so the water level is still very warm. However last year around sept 11, I was throwing out my cast net where I normally threw it and I got nothing. So I fished artificial, however toward the end of the day I went up in a creek about 3-4 feet deep and saw many shad and minnows swimming around. typically in my experience the bass follow the baitfish about a week or so later. hope that helps JOE
  22. whenever I caught a big fish its with a deep diving crank bait. I fish it around stumps in 25 ft water. good luck. I caught a 7lb this year on a 1/4 ounce ratl trap. anyway good luck joe
  23. thanks guys I just started going for smallmouths so I guess that is a pretty good start. The fish was pretty easy to pull in, I was kind of surprised. I think it was because I only had to reel in like 12 feet of my line and he was in. got to go fishin Joe
