  1. From my understanding of it I think the 'Twitchin' Bar' is mainly used to help you let out slack better. I could be wrong, but when I tried it I took it as you were supposed to use the bar to let line out. Again, I could be wrong, but it would help if you have a 15 foot deep crevice to cover. Instead of pulling line off the reel you can just let the line go with the bar.
  2. Send some of that snow our way. ;D I love snow, and we only have about 12" on average each year. There are a few exceptions, but they are only about every 3 or 4 years.
  3. I also think the painting process has something to do with Tru-Tungsten weights. I would much rather get a plain weight, and dip it in the color I want, and save $2. I'm all about cutting corners these days, and if someone knows of a cheap source for plain Jane tungsten weights .... please let me know.
  4. I bought some Stainless Steel bullet weights while at Gander Mountain the other night, and thought I'd try them today. I can't tell the difference between the SS weights and the Tungsten. Other than the fact that the Tungsten are only about 15% smaller in size. I got 64 various weighted SS weights for $7, where as, I would have paid $6 just for 2 or 3 Tungsten weights. Why the hype about Tungsten? I couldn't tell the difference, and I was fishing heavy cover in fast current.
  5. The local paper today reported that BPS is looking at developing here in Owensboro, KY. It looks like I won't have to go to far for my stuff anymore, and can stop paying the inflated shipping charges. I wonder if that petition I signed awhile back had anything to do with it? There were close to 3,000 signatures on it. How do they determine this anyway? I always thought it was by the number of hunting/fishing licenses in the area that were sold, but do they look at traffic studies as well?
  6. Heck yeah ..... having fishing buddies is half the fun. All are equally enthused about it, but not all of them have the equipment/bait craze I have.
  7. This is how I see it. Reminds me of an email my Dad sent me last month. -------------------------------------------------------------- TO ALL OF YOU WHO SURVIVED the 1930's, 40's, 50's, 60's, 70', and 80's!! First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they were pregnant. They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can, and didn't get tested for diabetes. Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribs covered with bright colored lead-based paints. We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets, not to mention, the risks we took hitchhiking. As infants & children, we would ride in cars with no car seats, booster seats, seat belts or air bags. Riding in the back of a pickup on a warm day was always a special treat. We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle. We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and NO ONE actually died from this. We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter and drank Kool-aid made with sugar, but we weren't overweight because, WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING! We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on. No one was able to reach us all day. And we were O.K. We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem. We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's, X-boxes, no video games at all, no 150 channels on cable, no video movies or DVD's, no surround-sound or CD's, no cell phones, no personal computer's, no Internet or chat rooms....... WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them! We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents. We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever. We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays, made up games with sticks and tennis balls and, although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes. We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them! Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!! The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law! These generations have produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever! The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas. We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned HOW TO DEAL WITH IT ALL! If YOU are one of them? CONGRATULATIONS! You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before the lawyers and the government regulated so much of our lives for our own good. Kind of makes you want to run through the house with scissors, doesn't it?! The quote of the month is by Jay Leno: "With hurricanes, tornados, fires out of control, mud slides, flooding, severe thunderstorms tearing up the country from one end to another, and with the threat of bird flu and terrorist attacks, are we sure this is a good time to take God out of the Pledge of Allegiance?" For those that prefer to think that God is not watching over us...go ahead and delete this.....For the rest of us...pass this on.
  8. Aqua Dots and Bindeez, an overseas version, are the culprits. Here is the link. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/7086585.stm
  9. ;D Now that I have your attention. When do the following year's line ups get released? It's been so long since I've waited for anything, and I don't know what the typical release dates are for new fishing equipment.
  10. Show me some proof, and I'll buy into your theory.
  11. Yeah I agree. If you really think about it ...... I grew up in the late 70's / early 80's. Almost all of my toys had lead based paint in them, and I'm fine. I think it actually becomes a problem when you start to ingest this stuff, but I never tried to swallow a Matchbox car or GI Joe either. Not to mention I think Optimus Prime was a little too large for my mouth anyway. ;D
  12. That's why most of the new reels have a "This product contains chemicals known to the state of California to cause cancer" saying either on the box or on a piece of paper in the box. The paint is the culprit. Lead paint and cheap metal alloys. What gives??? I don't know of ANY good US reel manufacturers. On another note. They just recalled those "Aqua Dots" kids make crafts with. Come to find out if you ingest the little dots they break down into the chemical known as GHB a.k.a. a common Date Rape drug.
  13. I use Cajun Line on my Catfish outfits. I can sit on the boat, and lay back while watching the red line! Be sure to tie some good knots if you use it though. It's not a good 'strong knot' line.
  14. Pinnacle does not make BPS reels !!! I just got off the phone with BPS again. This time I got a big "NO" when I asked if Pinnacle makes BPS reels. The truth of the matter is BPS changes manufacturers from year to year depending on their needs. I'm not going to argue this anymore. Until you can come up with some undeniable proof that Pinnacle makes BPS reels then this discussion is like kicking a dead horse.
  15. I'm going to buy a Vision VLP10XLT next. http://www.silstar.com/guide/products.aspx?Pid=353&Cid=233 As for who makes BPS reels. The Johnny Morris Elite and Signature reels are NOT made by Pinnacle. I did research on it awhile back, and I can't find that darn post. I've looked everywhere, but can't find the post I made about my findings. Anyway, I spoke to a lady in the marketing department and in the wholesale department. Both told me the exact same thing. All BPS reels are made by the same manufacturer that makes Shimano, Abu Garcia, and Pflueger. They are manufactured under the same company, different facilities, and by each Brand's specifications. Furthermore, the Johnny Morris Elite reel has a distinct characteristic that no Pinnacle has. The 'clicking' adjustable braking system is more like the Abu Garcia Revo series than any other reel. The exact same 'clicks' as the Revo STX which means they use the same braking system. I've done my research on this, because I am very curious as to where I spend my money. In the line of BPS reels rumor does have these reels as being made by various manufacturers. The fact of the matter is that nearly 95% of these claims are made by speculation, and are false. None of them are made or based on actual research of the matter.
  16. Pinnacle doesn't make the Johnny Morris line of reels. We had this discussion a while back. If I could find the post I would link it.
  17. I'm just going to take it back. I tried everything last night, and you can still hear the gears humming, and the handle is stiff.
  18. Ah ... that doesn't matter with BPS. I'm on one days 'Ground SHipping' from their home warehouse in Missouri. I would never pay the inflated Next Day Air charges for anything I buy. Like I said, I get the next day service with regular shipping. It's just the slow speeds of their order process.
  19. No. This one came from under the display in the storage area. Out of the box it was doing this. I tested the display and it was fine.
  20. I JUST got home from Gander Mountain with a Daiwa Megaforce w/ Twitchin' Bar, and took it out of the box. It humms when I turn the reel arm. Is that normal? I can hear the gears moving inside, and it's making a humming noise. Should I take it back?
  21. Anyone here have any opinions about Pinnacle Reels? I can get a Sentara II for $69 new in box. Would it be an ok reel?
  22. The only problem is that Clarksville, IN is a good 2 hour drive, and depending on traffic it could be longer. Last time I went up to the BPS in Clarksville I had to detour for 45 minutes out of my way because of the road improvements. The only other alternative is Nashville with the BPS at Opry Mills down there. That's even worse, because I get stuck going to 200 stores I have no desire to go to while the wife shops. Going to Gander Mountain and Dicks today. Dicks has a big clearance sale, and both are in Evansville,IN which is a 30 minute drive on a slow day.
  23. Fish them both, but you really need to try the Football head jig in 1/4 - 1/2 ounce. They are the best for flipping in my opinion.
