  1. What state Thai? Good luck with that RW! Please e-mail me photos of that hog the moment you get them on your computer.
  2. I'm planning on throwing bigger baits, and fishing the outsides of deeper structure this year. I'm guessing this means less bites, and bigger fish. I'm also planning on fishing a a place 25 miles from me, that I've never fished before. On a local bass fishing website, i'm always seeing 6,7,and 8 pound LMB being pulling out of there. The state record LMB is 11.5, so I'm planning on having a BIG year in 2010. I'm going to predict my biggest Largemouth bass of 2010 will be 8 pounds 3 ounces, shattering my Colorado record of 5.10. My biggest SMB is...lol... 2.13. I've only caught about 6 of them in my life and I'm planning on fishing for more of them in a lake I don't fish to often. So I predict my biggest SMB will be 4.4. How about you? How big is your biggest bass going to weigh in 2010? Make sure you put in the state you think you'll catch it in.
  3. AWESOME STUFF!!!! Just had so much fun reading all that! More! More!
  4. Okay guys here's another post by me. Sorry if they're getting annoying but I've got cabin fever like you can't even believe. We have another 3-6 weeks before we can even THINK about wetting a line here in Boulder CO. Therefore coming to BR and trying to have some fun is the only thing keeping me sane in terms of my fishing life. Anyway, perhaps "haunt" is a little strong of a word but I was just wondering, was there a time where you hooked a LMB or SMB but didn't get it to the boat or shore, that still drives you a little, or a lot crazy even to this day? I was night fishing last summer and was whipping a fire tiger jerkbait and heard a splash like somone hucked a small brick into the water. I felt the tug and gave it a yank. I couldn't believe how big and strong this thing felt. We all could hear it fighting out there in the dark, splashing around like noones business. The moment I hooked it, I could feel it's head just yanking my rod as if a friend of mine was on the other end of my line, tugging really hard, playing a practical joke on me. In a raised voice I said , "Oh my god bro, this things huge!" It made another super loud splash and my friend said "Holy shxit bro did you foul hook a muskie?" (theres no muskie in this lake) I kept saying "Oh God please let me land this thing!" We fought for a good 15 seconds, which is WAY longer than you think when your heart is pounding out of your chest and you have what you believe is the biggest Colorado bass you've ever caught by far on the end of your line. I didn't even have time to really enjoy the fight before my line went SNAPOLA! I let out the biggest "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!" of my life and that was that. Could it have been the state record I'm looking for? Who knows but it still kinda bugs me even now..
  5. Okay guys I hate recycling my old posts but theres a ton of new members, and old members may have changed their minds... It's one of my favotrite topics for some stupid reason so I want to know... What's a better fishing day? Fishing your favorite lake in the universe for 10 hours and catching 100+ bass in the 2-6 pound class range? (1-3 pound class SMB) OR Fishing your favorite lake in the universe and on your first cast of the day you catch a 14 pound LMB (or a 8 pound SMB), then the rest of the day, you catch NOTHING? I'll take the latter
  6. Guarenteed you threw where the fish aren't. Don't think "different bait" think "different position." Move and fish until you find the bites you're looking for. Also, a really interesting fact I was reading about shiners from a 22 year guide on Okeechobee. Weird but true. "Over the years, the state of Florida has trapped and killed many thousands of bass on Lake Okeechobee for all sorts of studies. This sounds like a lot of bass and in some cases it would be. Considering the size of this lake and it's many millions of bass that live out their lives in a very short period compared to most lakes, it has been well worth the sacrifice considering what has been learned." "Anyone familiar with Florida bass fishing, especially trophy bass fishing, knows that the number 1 method for taking these trophy bass is fishing with a live Florida Golden Shiner. These fish are native only to Florida and in no way should they be confused with any baitfish referred to as a shiner in the northern states. The prime size for a shiner to be used as bait is 8-10 inches in length. Bass love these things, big bass, any size bass, and most guides fish with nothing else. Ask anyone who has ever shiner fished in Florida what the bait of choice would be, and this will be your answer. Of all the strange facts I have learned about bass, this one takes the cake. All of these thousands of bass studied had their stomach contents checked closely for there contents. Not one single bass, out of the many thousands studied, has ever been found to have a Florida shiner in its stomach. NOT A SINGLE ONE OUT OF THOUSANDS! These are the baits you pay 1.50-2.00 each for when buying a dozen."
  7. Gotta go with either Billy McCaghren or Terry Butcher. 1st classic for both. What a story that would be.
  8. Is this an average day? A good day? Or a great day for you Fluke?
  9. EL Salto!!! I went with El Salto Lodge. Google it. Also, some of the crushers on this board always say they want to fish at Stick Marsh/ Farm Pond 13. After checking it out, I couldn't agree more. Google it. You're nuts if you don't hit one of those two places IMO. Lastly, tell your sister and brother to stay away from Cancun and go hit Tulum or Isla Mujeres or Akumel, or even Playa Del Carmen instead. All those places are within 60 miles of Cancun and are WAY more tropical, beautiful, mellow and fun. Cancun has turned into kind of an armpit if you ask me. Lots of busses and taxis and annoying clubs and bars and drugs and pollution. For that they might as well go to NYC. Just an opinion as I've been to many different places in Mexico once or twice a year for the past 6 years.
  10. 1. Lake El Salto 2. Absolutely no doubt I caught over 30 4+ pounders that day. I'd say 40 of the 50+ fish I caught that day were 4+ but I'm going to say 30 on this thread for the sake of making sure I don't look like I'm full of it. 3. Buzzbaits in the morning. In the Afternoon I threw 7'' Yammy Lizards/Watermellon W/Bl FLK. Dipped the tails in Chartruse garlic dip and couldn't keep them off my line.
  11. Wow sick! Glad I asked. Thanks all.
  12. Sup guys. I'm looking for a really good deal on a baitcaster. So I posted in the Flea market section yesterday and a few cool people got back to me with some deals. I have no clue about any of these reels so I wanted to ask the guys who know. Which one of these reels is "best" and why? I mostly fish for larger bass. I like to make long casts. I hate backlash. Thanks! All reels have been offered to me for about the same price. Which is best? cabelaz tournamnet Z high speed BPS Royal Express Abu Garcia ProMax BPS Pro Qualifier
  13. Way to go Bob!
  14. Haven't read it but I will now. Being a big bass guy as opposed to numbers, my favorite book so far is "In Pursuit of giant bass" By Bill Murphy. Great stuff.
  15. Hugely important and it all starts where you're anchoring your boat. Sometimes, for example, you'll want to anchor the boat on top of a point if you happen to be fishing one, and sometimes you'll want to anchor off to the side so you can come up and/or down the slopes of the point. Tons of bass won't hit a lure unless it's presented in a specific spot or angle like you were saying. If a big old bass was hanging out under a fat boulder, often times the only way it's going to strike is if you yank that bait over the rock and drop it near the fish at the right angle. If you throw the bait to the side of the rock for example it just might not have the same appeal as if you drop that bait right in its face. I've also read that most big bass are caught when fishing UP a hill or ledge as opposed to down. Which obviously means angle is huge.
  16. Completely depends on tons of things including the size of your pond, which in your case is pretty small, the number of bass in the pond already, food sources, places for the bass to hide from preditors, the amount of time the bass have been in the pond prior to now, and the basses genitic dispostion, all have someting to do with how big bass can get in a pond. Basically there's no real "general" answer to your question because natural or man made ponds are all very different bass habitats.
  17. I was curious to know a few details about everyones personal best LMB or SMB. 1. How big was it? 2. What Bait did you catch it on? 3. General time of day and weather? (was it noon on a bluebird sky day? After dark on a cloudy night after a storm front?) 4. What Month of the year?
  18. I think you'll find that if you really pay attention, you'll notice that more huge bass will be caught on a 3/4 moon phase (waxing or waning) than at any other time in the moon phase. What's sick is lots of people fish the full moon religiously, but what they don't realize is that the 3/4 moon phase is so strong that many of the bass have already gorged themselves by the time the full moon comes, and many times, especially the ponds I fish here in Colorado, the bite is way off on the night of a full moon. Catt hit it on the head though. Fish the outside of key deep water structure and hold on tight.
  19. Bro it makes me physically sick to admit this, but I wear Crocs on shore and on my friends boat. I used to make fun of these ugly things until I got sick of getting my hoops shoes dirty when I wore them fishing. You can put them on and take them off faster and easier than any shoe, you can get them muddy and dirty and disgusting, and hose them off in 30 seconds and they look like new. To get that extra 10 yards others wont on their casts from shore, I'll walk in the water up to my knees and make casts to cover others can't get to. To do this, you have to have a shoe that can go under water and be completely fine. Crocs fit the bill. You can also buy Fake Crocs that are way less money. Go hit a Target department store or some other place that sells immitations.
  20. Hopefully I don't sound intrusive but I'd really like to know what you guys do for a living when you're not out there angling.(unless of course you're a pro angler) I'm a photographer. I shoot about 150 concerts a year for lots of the Venues, bands and promoters here in Denver/Boulder. Mostly medium sized acts to bigger acts like U2 and the Stones. If I'm not doing that to make money, I'm playing poker to do so. How about you guys?
  21. Jigs and Tubes. I have had some nice success on a reverse rigged weightless Fat Ika
  22. Lol. I tried this with Haiku a year or so ago. Got some funny responses. In any case, here's my 5. 1. Join Bass Resource 2. Fish Isolated Cover 3. Structure is Key 4. Soft Plastics Work 5. Control Bait Monkey
  23. I have a little pontoon boat and I'd like a little trolling motor for it. Does anyone have any clue what kinda power I'd need? Anyone seen anything on sale lately? I'd love to get away with spending less than 150$ and spending under 120$ would be perfect.
  24. SweetBeaver with 1oz weight or more?
