The Next World Record
I know about the bass caught in Japan. I was asking what's going to be the NEXT one after that. I'm assuming the one caught in japa will tie George Perry's and we'll finally move on. If you're not allowed to fish with Crayfish in So Cal, I'd guess a big ole jig or swimbait would get the job done. Is Dixon still a possibility for the next world record? Dont they feed those bass 1000's of rainbow trout a few times a year?

The Next World Record
1. Do you think the next world record will be caught in the USA, or somewhere else? If the USA, what state and lake? 2. What bait will she be caught on? Live bait or another bait? If another bait, what exact bait do you think it will be? My opinion is a Live Crayfish is gunna take down the next WR for some reason, maybe a swimbait. Castaic, Lake sounds cliche but that's my guess. How about you?

New for 2010?
Most important goal for me this year is... 1. Teach someone to fish. I want to teach at least one of my friends to fish, and get him/her into bass fishing. 2. Become, at very least, above average with a Jig&Pig. I've made thousands of casts the past few years and maybe only 50 with a Jig. That's just sad, and needs to stop NOW! The J&P should be an integral part of any good fishermans arsenal and I constantly blow it off. My goal is to catch at least 30 bass on a Jig this spring and summer. 3. Learn to pattern fish better. Very difficult but I have to learn. 4. Learn to handle my mistake beats better. If I lose a fish, count to ten and settle down. Don't get so mad. 5. There's a lake 35 minutes from me that has 8+ pounders in it. I never get my butt down there, and instead hunt the 4-6 pounders 5 minutes from my house. This year the goal is to drive the 35 minutes at least 10 times. 6. Same goal as every year... Catch a Colorado state record LMB of at least 11.6 pounds.

colder than a well digger's
Todd, you might be better off moving! But I'll buy a ticket to -for the cause. Hey...have you perused the Arsenal yet? It's the closest thing we have to what you are after. I've been dying to get to RMA. Absolutely never go due to sheer lazyness and the good fishing 5-15 minutes fro my house. I've heard great things and seen great photos of big ole hogs from RMA as well. I also heard you dont have to take that class in the morning any more to enter the grounds. I will crush that place next spring and summer for sure. Can't wait!

colder than a well digger's
Paul, I'm doing my best to win the lottery, so I can build and own the first indoor lake here in Boulder. That way we'll have no problem catching 23+ inch bass Nov- February. Since I'll be importing countless Florida strain LMB's and feeding them as many rainbow trout as they can eat all year around, one of us should have a world record way before March.

Do you consider "live" bait cheating?
What about using live bait to chum? Is that cheating, or unethical(fishing wise)? Never actually "chummed" for bass before but I've seen kids throwing pieces of worms by the hundreds in local waters to attract bass... And it works. If it's not "cheating" to use one live bait on a hook, is it "cheating" to use 50 nightcrawlers without a hook to attract bass to a certain area?

Your Best Day Ever?
What do you remember most about the best day you've ever had on the water, fishing for largemouth bass? Maybe you caught nothing, but had the best time ever, and maybe you caught a 17 pounder. What happened on your "perfect day?" Can't wait to read some of your stories.

Your favorite SMALL Jig&Pig combo?
Guys, water is cold. Probably 45. Air temps 60-65 so i HAVE to get out there and fish. My guess is that I need to downsize and I'm a rookie Jig fisherman who wants to throw a jig and trailor. I was thinking of perhaps going with a 1/16oz jig(no idea what make or model), and either a 2" twin tail grub or maybe a a Zoom Skinny Chunk. I need your advice as to what kind of jig you guys love to downsize with, that still can target larger bass in the area you're fishing. Is 1/16oz the best idea generally? Also, are the trailors I mentioned worth it? Do you guys have better ideas for smaller trailors in mind? Thanks!

what do you like about bass fishing
One of my favorite movie directors of all time, the genius, Robert Altman once said, "I love fishing. You put that line in the water and you don't know what's on the other end. Your imagination is under there." To me, that's the essence of fishing. Even when I'm in my car on the way to the water, my imagination starts going crazy with all the possibilities of the day. Once my bait hits the water the feelings intensify, the adrenaline rushes, the endorphins pop, and all is great with the universe.

Some thoughts on hook removal
Thanks R Dub. True story. I honestly thought about that bass countelss times in the days proceeding her release with the hook still in her throat. I felt bad for real. I thought about hopefully catching her again many times. When I did, and got the hook out, I felt awesome! I was as relieved as the bass was.

Some thoughts on hook removal
Glenn made this post a few months back. I happened to learn it from a friend. It is a tactic that has been most useful on the water. I've used the through the gill method dozens of times and it really works to perfection. I caught a bass before I learned this method. It was on a red EWG #3 GY hook. I couldnt get the hook out and snipped the line and let her go. It was a 20 inch bass, which in Colorado make the fish OLD. My guess is 10+ years, and I felt really bad about leaving the hook in her throat. I had the bass out of the water a long time trying to get that hook out and just couldnt do it. I hoped the fish would swallow the hook and poop it out. (I've caught bass with hooks coming out of their ***) A couple months later, I was fishing the same spot, and re-caught her. The red GY hook was still lodged in her throat. Not even close to rusted. (probably takes a year or more to rust on of those things out) She weighed less than she did before, and I thought her color looked different. I don't think she could hunt as well and swallow as well as she did before. I had since learned the through the gill method and took the hook out for her when I caught her again. I almost could feel the sense of relief the fish must have had (not that they feel emotions) when that hook popped out after 7 weeks or so. Great method of hook removal and all anglers should know it, because contrary to popular opinion, hooks don't just rust out. If some anglers don't believe that, just go down to the local pond, fill a bucket up with pond water, take it home and drop some hooks in. Let me know when they rust enough to fall apart on their own.

Lost a bass from drag not set right. What do you do?
Why on Earth do you say he isn't getting that bass again? Don't listen to him kid, you might not know it when you do it, but you'll catch that bass again if you keep fishing and keep learning.

check out this bass
Ya'll act like you've never seen a sad bass before. Happens all the time when they get lost and are far away from home, or they're rejected by a pretty female. Give the little guy some time to think things out, and perhaps find another mate. If you catch him again after he's a little less depressed, you'll find his facial fetures will return to that of a perfectly normal, and healthy LMB.

fishing from the shore
Throw buzzbaits early in the morning. Try Zara Spooks as well.

Mike Iaconelli: Exclusive Feature-Length Video! New!
Wow. Thanks Glenn. It was all great, especially the part about "hair jigging" and relating to the mood of the bass. Really well done sir!

Stripers - Best baits?
I need general advice for the baits I should be tossing if i go striper fishing. I'm hitting lake Powell and have never fished for stripers before, only largemouth and smallmouth. Are they hitting shad type baits now that it's fall? Swimbaits? Plastics? What baits do the stripers like assuming I can find 'em?

Unusual carcasses
Absolutely wow! I must have missed the original post. Can you tell me a little detail about where you found that amazing fossil? Is that a huge discovery for that lake/fishing area or are people finding T-Rex legs and Velociraptor spines everywhere? Cool stuff.

What are your favorite fishing pictures?

Wierd Anglers
Not judging, just an observation but...... 2 liter bottle of Coke guy always makes me chuckle. Yes. It's true. I see guy and his kid once in a while fishing a section of lake which never has so much as a tadpole in it. They both have an empty 2 liter bottle of Coke with some line rapped around it. They throw the line by hand as far as they can, which is usually about 8 feet. I've never asked them what theyre using for bait because I fear I might laugh out loud.
