  1. Two words....... Google Earth So many ponds, lakes, and resoviours in the Boulder area it's almost insane. Don't get me started on how many there are in the Denver metro area. Just caught a 4 pounder in Boulder 35 minutes ago on a spinnerbait.
  2. What's everyone's favorite jig and trailor combo? Also, what retrieve has caught you the most bass? Hopping it? Or crawling it on the bottom? Or a combo of those? Thanks!
  3. I didn't use a circular pol in these two shots. I waited for any and all chop on the water to go away, and positioned my camera so there was no glare. I do have Circular Pols for all my lenses and use them for shots like this if the angle I want is comprimised by to much glare. In this instance, I didn't need one.
  4. The bed is a depression or a "cleared away" circle, usually found between 2ft and 8 ft of water (although there are some deeper and shallower) The male "clears away" all the loose gravel, sand, silt, debris, with his tail and mouth to make an attractive nest that might entice the female to lay her egg in. Much like humans, the better the real estate, the hotter the chick, lol. Let me see if I can find and video showing a bed..... ok, in the clip below, as the boat gets closer to the rock wall coming out from shore, you'll notice 3 beds at the foot of the right side of the wall. 1 is occupied, 2 are older and abandoned (the Bluegill will conveniently use these in another week or so for their spawn) You can see them better as the clip nears the end. Those are examples of beds. If you see one that's well cleaned like the furthest one in this clip, there IS a fish nearby or directly on it. Don't be fooled if you don't see him,....he's close by. Short clip-BEDS Typical drop shot weights. yes, hook thru the head
  5. Dude mark my words. The next world record is coming from CUBA! I went down there for a week a few years ago. Didn't bass fish but I was all over the island. I talked to a couple different bass fishermen and they were talking about knowing people who have caught 20 pounders at a couple different lakes there. I've since researched it and CUBA is my pick for the next world record largemouth. My guess is a swimbait does it.
  6. If I said it once, I've said it a million times. BR and the seemingly endless knowlege of it's members is second to none. Thanks guys. Great stuff.
  7. I've noticed on this pond I fish, that the bite turns off and on almost like a light. At "Pond A" for example, we'll arrive an hour before sunset. We won't get a bite on anything from a Senko, to a buzzbait, or a jitterbug to a spinnerbait. Then, at about 10 minutes after sunset, we'll catch 'em. First, my friend might get a 2.5 pounder 60 yards from where I'm fishing, then I'll catch one 3 minutes later. In an hour, we'll have caught 4 fish each(give or take) fishing a few different places on the pond, using the same lures we couldn't catch them on 20 minutes ago. Then as suddenly as the bite hit us, it dissapears, and we can't catch them on anything, or anywhere. Considering this pattern has held true for many many outings in a row to this same pond, it had me wondering, how on earth, or why on earth, this happens. It can't be cooincidence after so many outings, and there's no way every fish in a 30 acre body of water just suddenly, collectively, stops eating because dinner time is over. What factors lead to such an obvious on again/off again bite in a few hour period?
  8. Guys I adore buzzbaiting but the hookup ratio is about 50%. I lost a Colorado PIG last night and now I'm dying to learn how to correctly use a trailor hook on my buzzbaits. I can't seem to find any photos of a buzzer rigged with a trailor hook. Can anyone explain how to put a trailor hook on the buzzbait, or send me a photo of one? What kind of hooks do you use with different size buzzbaits? Do you use just a hook? Or do you use a trailor too?
  9. Please define a spawning pathway. Also, how do you fish them and why do you fish them the way you do? Lastly, can they be found without electronics using experience and a good eye?
  10. My typical scenario lately has been 55 degree air temps with 53 degree water. This is on a 40 acre pond with absolutely no visable cover and a max depth of 14 feet. Water is not gin clear, but you can see down a foot or two with no glasses on. What lure do you guys love for conditions like this, and what's your presentation?
  11. Never thrown a Tiki Stick before. You guys like 'em or no? I like a nice long casting, heavier worm, as opposed to a worm like a "Yum Dinger" which is awesome, just not as heavy as I like. What's the fall rate like etc. etc.? (please do not reccomend another brand worm, I'm only curious about this particular soft plastic at this time)
  12. Move to Cuba. The next world record will be caught there.
  13. Nope. Do it right, and give us bass fisherman a good name. There's a "season for a reason" so just chill until May, and use that time to come to this forum, and learn how to catch 'em come legal fishing time. Cheers!
  14. Chris, does the same rule follow, when fishing smaller lakes with no points? The lakes/ponds I fish with the biggest bass are old gravel pits with no points. I just got a pontoon. I've been floating around the lakes, "spanking the banks" casting from deeper water to the shore. Is this a stupid strategy? Should I position my boat much nearer shore and fish parallel to shore or from shallow to deep? Since there's no visable cover, humps, ridges or other structure I'm having trouble finding the fish.
  15. C H A T T E R B A I T ! ! !
  16. This might be a dumb question, but have the price of Senkos gone up, or is it just me? I had a friend that just called me from a BPS store and I asked him to get me a pack of 6'' Senkos. He told me they were $6.99 for a 5 pack. HUH?! What the!!!!! Was he mistaken? I thought I paid $5.99 for a 10 pack last year. Am I losing my mind, or was he just wrong? Where can I get the least expensive deal on them do you think?
  17. Any of you guys fish Gravel pits? If so, what have you noticed with pit fishing that's different than fishing other bodies of water? For example, when spawning, bass will many times move to the shallows for warmer water, and make nests and lay eggs. But what about a gravel pit with no flats or shallow water? The pits I fish are like bowls with dropoffs starting right at shore and getting deeper as you move away from shore. So what are the bass relating to during the spawn, in a gravel pit like this? What about feeding and hunting? Many times I'll notice the bass moving closer to shore to hunt in the shallows when it starts getting dark outside. But there is no "shallows" in a bowl shaped pit, so how does this change their hunting activity? How should my strategy differ in a bowl shaped pit, compared to many other ponds and lakes?
  18. Just pulled out some Yo-Zuri Hybrid that I bought in October. As I started re spooling a new reel, I noticed the line has built up quite a memory. It's curling all over the place. Any suggestions to help me get my line back to "normal" before I put it on my new reel? Thanks!
  19. If the next WR is caught by bed fishing while the fish is near or about to spawn, will it be chaos due to the differing opinions about fishing for spawning fish? Isn't that how Dotty was caught once or twice before?
  20. Well now that i have a boat, questions about the "middle of the pond" come into play. I never had to worry about water more than about 50 yards in front of me fishing the bank. Now that I have a boat, fishing a 50 acre pond, becomes much more complicated. For example, if I go out on a bluebird sky day, should I be spanking the banks still? Should I head to the middle of the lake where the water is deeper, and fish there? Since there's really no visible cover (vegetation, brush piles, shade) I figured the bass would be relating to deeper structure like Humps, dropoffs, or even large boulders during this time. Is this true?
  21. Here in Colorado, for years, a license ran from Jan 1-Dec31st. Then your license expired. In 2009 they've changed it. A new 2009 license will run from Apr 1st- March 31st. It will cost about $30.00. I get 3 extra free months of fishing this year so that's a bonus. Perhaps your state is attempting to change the expiration month, like Colorado did, and your state just hasn't got it dialed in yet?
  22. Thanks guys, good advice as usual. Will be interested to see if there's even any ledges or dropoffs in an old gravel pit. I've pulled some 6+ pounders out of there, and saw an 8# caught and released in this pit. In a place where the state record is 11.6, that maks this pit one hell of a fishery. Now I just have to figure out how to fish it, especially during the day.
  23. I just got a new pontoon boat. No motor, no glitter, just oars. But it's a boat and it get me off the shore. I also just bought a fish and depth finder for the first time. My first question is, how should I fish from the boat? The shore leave little options, but a boat opens things up immensly. For example, What should my first few days be like on the boat in terms of finding good spots to fish? I fish a 50 acre gravel pit. There's absolutely no cover whatsoever. Should I take a couple hours and not even fish the first time out? Should I just take the electronics I got and cruise around the lake looking for structure that bass might relate to before even fishing the pit? Help a shore fisherman with some tips for fishing from a boat. Should I be spanking the bank even at high noon on a blue bird sky day? Or should I head for deeper water in the middle of the lake at that time? Since I'll be fishing structure, what types of structure should I be looking for the most, and how do I identify it? What baits do you guys like to throw at the different structures? Do you use the same baits on a 22 foot ledge, as you would fishing a different type structure? Thanks!
