They're a major reason.

The shiny new lady friend is another. :D

The way I figure it, if I can make it through BCT and Ranger school, quitting smoking isn't going to be a bother. Sucks for a few, but it'll pass. I will say this, I've forgotten how much I enjoyed the gym and working out. Glad my body is remembering it. It's also helping a bunch to deal with the cravings.

Eric,

Can't really give you as much encouragement as you already have, but my brother's mother-in-law smoked until it killed her. She basically drowned in her own lungs while everyone including me watched, so don't end up going out that way, it is horrible to watch.

When are we going fishing?

Stories like that are just one of the many reasons I decided to get it over with. Sorry to hear it.

As far as fishing goes, hopefully my arm will be feeling better soon and I'll let you know. I overworked it a bit too much the other day. Whoops....

Update:

Week and a half, still haven't had one. Pretty wild the difference a week makes. Stuff all smells and tastes different. Breathing is improving each day as well. So far so good.

It's honestly amazing how bad somebody else smells when they walk into a room after having a smoke.

For those of you thinking about quitting, just do it. After the first week it's far, far better. I still get the cravings for some nicotine, but they're getting far less frequent, and far less intense, thank God.

I started back up 3 years ago after quitting for 10 years. Its hard to put them down!

You can do this - you know you can.

Ask your daughters to write down the 3 things that they would miss most about you if suffered an untimely (self inflicted) death due to lung cancer. Place this where you usually keep your smokes - read it when you get the urge.

This helped me put things in perspective very quickly.

Stay strong man.

Keep it up Eric. The cravings continue for about a year but diminish in intensity as time passes.

I quit four years ago but watched a man light one at a tournament weight-in yesterday and wanted one so bad I could have eaten a pack. To be honest I believe you will fight the urge for the rest of your life, but it does get easier................Al

You know what else lasts for about a year? The constant grabbing at your shirt pocket.

Ive tried to stop myself. I switched to dip, yea i know not much better, but i went from a pack and a half a day for 5 years to a can every three days. Its inspiring to hear everyones success stories, I just threw out the can and hope it lasts.
