I have had at least one Weimaraner since 1981. If you can survive the first two years of puppyhood they become family members and assume the responsibilities that come with it. Each of them have a different personality but each has become a best friend and fishing partner.

A couple of weeks ago my wife and I, with Heidi, attended an Elite Series weight-in here at Douglas Lake where we met a lady with her Weimaraner also watching the event. After the weight-in she introduced us to her husband, Gerald Swindle. They were both very friendly as was their dog.....................Al

After we get settled into the new place we're getting a red doberman. Looking forward to having a dog again!

Previous to getting Gaston, I had kept herding dogs, mostly German Shepard Dogs. I had to retrain myself to training Weims, they don't just listen like herding breeds. Once I taught myself to use food incentives as my primary training tool, I found that the sky is the limit with these dogs. You can really train them to do anything, and I do mean ANYTHING.

There are some ground rules to living with a Weimeraner. 1. Unattended food is fair game. 2. It isn't a fence, it is a puzzle. 3. The word "indestructible" on the label of a dog toy is a lie. 4. Excitement will not be contained physically. 5. That leash is there so YOU can keep up.

Man I miss having a Dobie running around. I've had two. Amazing dogs. I just wish I had the room here to have one now. Too much dog for to small of a yard. It's one of the trade offs to living lake front.

LOL....and true................They do outgrow some of these traits from my experience. I left food out all the time for two of the Weims I have had. but the one I have now would climb a tree for a bite of anything. About age 5 they become your best friend and will not break the rules you have spent years teaching them, something majical seems to happen. Daily exercise is a must, mine run and swim almost daily and the only time she is leashed is to visit Bass Pro Shop or the Vet. My last 2 have learned to not chase deer, you can't catch them anyway. Three deer bed down three or four nights a week about thirty yards from my yard and my Weim will look for them and try to wind them. Otherwise she ignores them and just does her business before bedtime. The deer have learned she is not a threat and just watch her. I shine my flashlight in their direction to see if they are there and it does not seem to disturb them. The Weim I have now was a rescue dog. A couple bought her and lived in an apartment. Apartment and Weimaraner should not appear in the same sentence................................................Al

We had a Shiba for 2 weeks just before getting the wiem we had it for like 3 or 4 days started crapping out blood all over our bed and it was a 12week old male. Took it to the vet sank 900 bucks into it to find out it had parvo. We took it back to the pet store our first mistake but took it back and got my money back plus the vet bill but they took like 600 bucks off because it had aged 2 weeks I was just glad to be rid of the thing it was pure evil lol. We got the Wiem shortly after returning the Shiba.

I have a Labrador/Dachsund/Chihuahua mix (I know, don't ask). My wife adopted her while she was in law school, but she is my dog now. Her name is Lucy and our oldest son just loves her. I couldn't imagine a better family dog.

Aww man that's rough. I love my shiba! He's a weird dog though. Like, ya know how when you scratch a dogs belly in that special spot, their leg kicks? For my shiba, you have to scratch the middle of his neck. If everybody is standing up, he gets mad and starts barking. He is very jealous of my Jack. CANNOT pet the jack russel without petting the shiba, or he does a whine/whimper for you to pet him, and will push his way in-between. And he loves gettin it on with any leg in the house. Weird dog.....but i love him!

Pekingnese. She's a brat, but we love her. Had an American Bulldog that passed two years ago, was a great dog, just haven't been able to replace her yet. Looked mean, always stood at attention at heal when walking, was a sweetheart.

back on topic. I used to have a golden retreiver named sunshine, a pure bred that was the runt of the litter. The best dog I have ever known.

now, we have a beagle german shepherd mix that was a last chance rescue, abandoned twice before he was a year old.

My 2nd airedale. This one is 9 years old & still full of himself.

I used to correspond with a guy (from the versatile hunting dog forum) from CA, he bred airedales. He trained his to hunt everything from boar to bear even birds. He claimed that a couple were broke to retrieve waterfowl.

Brittany spaniel. Didn't post a pic, but if you look up the breed and there is a pic...she looks exactly like that. It is amazing how much they all look alike.

While not the best dog we have ever had...that would be a poodle...teacup size...smartest dog ever and ferociously defended his family. He lived to be 18 before we had to have him put down...tears me up just thinking about him.

Anyway, sorry for the digression, but the Brittany is named Gabby. Wonderful dog, rarely barks is and surprisingly calm. Very good dog with my 7 year old son.
