With the summer basically here in the south, we're pulling out our topwaters for exciting action. Which style do you prefer for the summer, a frog, buzzbait, pencil, popper, soft plastics, etc? What's your favorite lure, and how do you like to fish it?

Pop-r is my go to after spring, I do still use the spook and buzzbait.

Jitterbug, I really like the gurgling sound.

Jitterbug is by far my favorite whenever treble hooks can be used. Otherwise, a buzzbait or soft plastic buzzer.

Zara Spook and Chug Bug

look at my user name... though i love topwater all around though

Spooks are my favorite, although my largest topwater bass came on a crazy crawler. There's just something about the Spook I like. Haven't tried too many of the "newer" topwaters out there.

Mann's Waker Elite. Love that thing.

Jitterbug, followed closely by a Devil's Horse.

Chugbug,Pop-R,Frogs and Rage shad.

Open water for largemouth=original Zara Spook. Open water for Smallies= pop-r. In grass,weeds,pads, or anything else I use a hollow body frog.

Buzzbait and popper are my topwater baits of choice. Buzzbait for covering water/heavy cover, popper for fishing smaller areas or fish that won't chase the buzzbait down.

Maybe I'm too old school, but the original Rapala floating minnow (traditional or jointed) is my favorite when I want to fish on top in open water / along weedlines in open water. In heavy cover, I prefer a frog.

Pop-R is no. 1 for me, followed closely by the large size Chug Bug. But that's when I use poppers. For other times, (i.e.: summer smallie fishing over humps) I just love the Sammy. Will bring 'em up from 30' or more. Great top water.

I love topwater frog fishing...it's what got me hooked on bass.

Recently, though, it's the 16" snake lure. D***....those things are fun to fish. Twitch them on the top with a sort of walking motion...making them swim in an "S" pattern back. The bass target that thing from yards away, waking on it. Then a huge boil and your line is moving off to the side. Reel down, set, and hold on! The great thing about using this lure...when you get hit on it, it's always a bass and usually big! The hook rate is surprising high with these baits. Bass instinctly attack the head and they attack these lures VERY aggressively.

Your forearms will look like Popeye after a few days fishing those things, though.
