There are better made tools for the trade, but its more or less what feels best to you. Every application is different.

For enthusiasts, technique specific gear is fun

to collect. However, three rigs cover all the

basics:

#1 6 1/2' or 7' MH baitcaster for jigs, some

soft plastics and spinnerbaits

#2 6 1/2' or 7' MM baitcaster for treble hook

lures

#3 7' MF spinning rod for lighter lures and a

variety of techniques

What RW said X2.

RW's approach is a very sound and practical approach. It is a solid basis from which to branch off. Those 3 setups cover many applications most people would typically face. Additional rods would simply augment your arsenal and address more specific applications.

RW is spot on 100% ! Once you have the baiscs and if you really want to pursue the matter you can add technique specific or even lure specific set ups to your arsenal but it depends on you. Some anglers are perfectly happy with just a couple of set ups and only buy equipment when something needs to be replaced and others enjoy trying different levels of gear and venture into high end offerings.

So you are fishing with a whole bunch of different rods, and you don't find some are better suited than others?... Is this Hellen Keller?

If you had a dollar for every time RW has posted this advice over the years you could probably buy one of his suggested combos. Solid advice from a guy who has some of everything, but understands what is "needed".

I'm laughing at K_Mac, not you cgraham0590 .

Go with what RW suggested and you can't go wrong.
