Favorite Crankbait

Featured Replies

The summer will pass quickly and Bass Angler Magazine has some fall crankbaiting info on its way. If you had to pick a crankbait and color that is your go-to what would it be?

Hard to narrow it down to one, perch/baby bass/chrome shad colors are my go tos depending on where I'm fishing.

For a certain pair of inter-connected lakes about an hour north of here, fall smallies climb all over a FireTiger Rattlin'Rap. Closer by, the smallmouth will attack a FireTiger 5a/7a Bomber in a local river.

Anybody see a pattern here?

I have two favorite crankbaits that have produced some beautiful bass for me.

1. Bandit 100 chartreuse with blue back. It now has one chartreuse and one white side as a big lady stole it from me at my double secret pond and five months later I found it along the bank, in the mud, and one side had been bleached white. Changed hooks and she is ready for action.

2. Strike King KVD Sexy Shad 100 size crankbait that just catches them for some unknown reason. It has teeth marks all over it.

I use these cranks in tournaments and will go miles to retrieve them if they get hung up.

Koppers live target natural matte or gloss .

Pumpking seed , bluegill , perch , baby bass, crawfish

It mostly doesn't matter which one I use for cranking , they all catch fish.

They are really nice crankbaits.

Do lipless crankbaits count in this?

Strike King Red Eye Shad is by far my favorite, especially living up here in the north where we have extended seasons of cold or cooler water.

Lucky Craft Skeet DT 6 Tennessee Shad.

This bait has accounted for over 200 Bass in the last 10 days.

Lucky Craft Flat Mini DR and CBD20. Color? Is there anything besides MS Am. Shad?

Xcaliber XCS100 square bill

LC Flat Mini DR

Spro Little John MD

Strike King 6XD

KVD 1.5 or 2.5 bluegill color has been hammering them for me lately.

Bandit 100 Rootbeer/Orange Belly

KVD 1.5 & 2.5 in bluegill and gizzard shad

Norman's middle N

Vintage crankbait by Lonnie Stanley.....about 30 years old, balsa, FLAT blade....first one I ever had that would go over limbs.

Color: Pea Green (light green back, chartreuse side, and pinkish bottom)

Bait was called Tennessee Shad.

Have about 4 of these left....have caught more fish on this crankbait than any other.

It's impossible to pick just one favorite, but if I had to, it would be a 1/2 oz. Rat-L-Trap in chrome/blue back.

I just got some of the new Ish crankbaits by River2sea. They look pretty cool but haven't tried them yet. Has anyone tried them and how did they work?

1. Bandit 100/200 series

2. Rapala DT series

depth is relative to where the fish are hanging out...

Tough to narrow it down to one, but I have favorites for different conditions. Heavy cover, less than 10' deep: the old Poes RC1 and RC2. I have 2 370 boxes full of these and if I ever lose 'em I will cry. Weed covered flats: Rat-L-Traps. Deep weedlines and deep cover: Bill Norman 'N' series baits. As far as colors, in clear water I use natural colors and try to "match the hatch", for stained/muddy water I usually go with fire tiger.

The owner cultiva mira vibe lipless crank works really well for me.
