New Guy Asking For Some Advice

Featured Replies

Hey guys got a quick question I see where BPS has a fathers day sale on the Tournament pro reels has anyone used them and how good of a reel are they?

I fish Shimano, but lots of our members seem to like the BPS TP just fine.

If your new to the sport then it will be a good starter baitcaster compared to the junk you get a Wallyworld. Dont expect this thing to stay smooth for too long. If you want longevity, well then you might want to look for something which starts with an "S".

Nope been fishing bass all my life dad had me throwin ambassadors at age 9 and my first reel was a bantam or Diawa can't remember. Dad always kept a Shimano. I'm just now getting where I want to spend most of my time fishing again.. I kinda let it go for awhile. Any thoughts on the Revo's? I see we have a faction on here that guys only fish with this brand or that brand, I'm not to strapped for cash but I like a good deal and trying to get good advice. Thanks for the recommendations.. I might give this a try but been eyeing a Revo.

I tend to prefer my Shimanos, but I like my two little Revos (Revo SX and MGX), both brands are quality reels. Shimano just seems to have a bit more refinement. Good Luck on your purchase!

Thanks for the replies what Shimano reel woulda recommend? Under the 150 dollar price range..

their gonna tell you and i would as well to try the citica 200g series or you can find the curado 200e or 200g in about any ratio as well the citicas can be found on ebay for about a 100 bucks new and curados for about 130 to 140 new ,,,personallly either is a great reel,,,

i like the revos just as well like a revo s or a revo sx both can be had as well under a 130 bucks

also the other two reel i fish besides revos and shimanos r the lews speed spool they r 79.00 on ebay shipped as good as any of the reels ive mentioned

the other is the red quantum kinetic they can be found for like 70shipped ,,,,its just how much you wanna spend all the reels mentioned are aluminum frame light weight and durable

It's hard to go wrong at the $100 price point for a baitcast reel. Lots of quality choices. On the lower end, the PQ or Carbonlite are good values especially on sale. Right now Revos are on clearance sales everywhere. I'd look at an STX or Premier at these sale prices. Shimano makes great reels. Daiwas are good but usually little more expensive than comparable models. Quantum has good engineering but materials and QC are suspect. Lews are getting a lot of attention. Their design and materials are "Revo like". Pinnacle has upped their game with higher quality offerings.

I would search around for a Curado E series reel. No doubt the best of the best. I recently sold all my other reels that consisted of Revos, BPS reels, and Diawas, and kept my Shimanos.

I'd wait until the Pro Qualifier goes on sale for $80. That is a heck of a reel at that price.

I have a couple of Citica 200E's and I'd rate the PQ's with them and the PQ is about $40 cheaper when it's on sale.

I would look around for an E series Citica or Curado, they are more refined than the newer G's and are cheaper; if you'd like to get an idea of how the E series will feel go to your local shop and try out a Chronarch 200E, it's very similar to the Curado E and the Citica E is just a little lower than the Curado E. I actually saw a couple of E series Citicas in the flea market.
