36,000 Members? Where Is Everybody?

Featured Replies

Haha, that's a lot of people! I saw on the bottom that the most ever online at a time was only 867. I thought'd be higher than that! Just wonderin'.

You must not know much about how forum statistics are set up and how they can be manipulated. In fact there is more than that that you probably have no idea about.

"Haha that's a lot of people." I hate to be condescending, but it's obvious you don't know squat about how websites work.

For example, I am one of the tens of thousands of members of e-bay. Do I visit their site often? No. When I do, do I spend the great majority of my time lurking? Yes. Do I buy something? Rarely. When I do decide to buy something then I become a participating member.

Now, plug the same e-bay scenario into this bass fishing web site. At the bottom of the pyramid are the members who just sign in and are never heard from again. Then there are the members who ask one or two questions and are never heard from again. Then we reach the top of the pyramid where there are hundreds of people willing and able to help each other out. To the Staff of Bass Resource, 867 people on line at the same time, viewing this website, is a huge number, and it is very much appreciated.

It's important to point out the "most online" number is the most online within a 30 minute period, which is the industry standard.

There's several bass fishing sites out there (who shall remain nameless) that try to pad their numbers by extending that period to 24 or more hours. If we were to do that (which we won't because that's deceitful), we'd show over 14,000 online at once.

I think the number of people on BR participating is huge, nothing I've seen fishing related is close to it. I spend time on a saltwater site too, also a big site and very informative, but not near the participation that BR enjoys.

I understand it now, thanks for explaining it to me. Sorry about that.

Don, we could set a specific day and time to ask everyone to be on the forum to break the record.

We could alert everyone a week out and then with daily reminders until the time arrives.

If you want to do this then start a new thread with the day, date and time.

Should be fun.

This might not be the busiest site on the web, but I can honestly say that it is one of the most informative, friendly and best moderated that I have been to.
