Help with VMC Shakey Heads

Featured Replies

Anybody used these before? If so, I was wondering how you rig them? Every time it seems like I tear the head of the worm up sliding it over the wire. Sorry if this is obvious, I just can't get them figured out. BTW, the ones I have, the wire points away from the hook side. Thanks,

Jon

Nobody has used these? I guess my second question would be, what do you recommend for a shakey head?

Jon[/quoteIf you are talking about the spring wire type, First thread the worm head onto the the spring, when it's snug then stick the hook into the side of your plastic.

Muddy,

I am not sure we are talking about the same model. Here is a picture of the one I have.

That is not the one I am talking about, you need to wait for someone who knows that. Sorry

I am not a 100% sure but this appears to be an exposed hook type jig head. The weedless ones have a wire screw or molded lead keeper comming out of the jig head at an angle some what pointing at the hook point. Hope this helps.

I fish Evolution Shak-E2 exclusively:

I've got my eyes on this jig for a long time and I've bought two sets of the Evolution lures.  They look like they'll stand up more often than the other jigs on the market.

How are these Shak-E2, because I thinking about ordering some as well?

They are designed to stand up well with a variety of baits. My

preferred soft plastic is the GYCB Kahuna Kut-Tail, but I have

had success with the Roboworm 6" Shakin' Zipper and GYCB

Flappin' Hog.

Although most people use a smaller presentation, I like them big!

You will probably catch more fish with finesse baits, but most of the

bass I've caught on the Shak-E2 have been 4 lbs and better.

The E2's are a great jig, however the post that holds the plastics is way to big and rips them too easy. I have gone to another brand.

I like the Shak-E2 design, but the lure holder on it seems too thick and I know from past experiences that thin worm type baits will not hold on well.  I like a screw on type of lock, but I really want to give the Shak-E2 a try as well.

I have some of these VMC shakey heads, as well, and I haven't figured out how to use them either.  I was planning to use them with some big grubs but its kind of tough on that plastic as well.  I may just take some sidecutters and nip off a little of the wire barb.

Rig it just like a Texas Rig on a straight shank hook.  The little barb keeps the nose of the worm from sliding up the hook shank.

That is what I thought, and how I have been rigging them. It just doesn't seem right because when you slide the head of the worm over the hook it gets all torn up. I do agree that is probably the only way to rig it though. I was also thinking of sliding the worm over the hook and then giving a quarter turn to "lock it in". I also plan to look at some other brands. Thanks for the help.

RW, Have you tryed fishing the Baby Paca or the Paca Craw on these jigs?

  • Super User

I'm sure they would work and I'm a BIG fan, but I fish both

Paca Craws and Babies as jig trailers. I see no reason not to

fish them on a shakey head, just haven't.

i use these all the time.  i just bite the top 1-2" off of a trick worm, rig it up weedless like a texas rigged worm.  no problems with worm tearing.  holds on great.  weedless as well.
