Jig head suggestions please

Featured Replies

Hey All,

I've decided to add spider grubs to my arsenal for fishing for smallies on the upper Potomac. I'm looking for suggestions as far as what jig heads to put the 4" spider grubs I've picked up. The majority of the areas I'm fishing for smallies are either rocky or loaded with rock ledges. I'm thinking a football head style to help minimize hang ups. Does this make sense? Do I need one with a weed guard? Any input (head style, weight, hook size, etc) would be greatly appreciated!

I wouldn't pretend to know better than Russ

or Gary Yamamoto, but I find fishing the Hula

Grub T-rigged and unpegged to be a better option.

Fishing the bait on a jig head with the exposed

hook is a rock magnet where I fish. T-rigged, the

bait can be fished weedless.

Thanks Delaware Valley Mike and roadwarrior!

I hadn't considered the t-rig option. roadwarrior, what size hook are you using? 1/0 EWG?

Thanks! That weightless presentation really has me thinking I want to give that a shot!
