Best Small Pond Bait

Featured Replies

I fish mostly in smaller to medium sized neighborhood ponds and I've had some luck on Yum Dingers and shaky heads with finesse worms mostly earlier in the year, it has really slowed down recently. What are some recommendations for bait? The bigger pond has darkish brown water an I'm not sure how deep it is but I know there are some big fish in there. The other pond is fairly clear and we guess somewhere between 7-10 feet but smaller. Both ponds have mud/sand bottoms with weeds.

Hard to beat the original floating rapala on small ponds. It can be fished many different ways.

I like using small swimbaits for ponds. Very versitile

Like the others have said, rapalas, small swim baits ( I've been using keitech swing impacts) small jigs and a frog. The frog works even in open water.

Growing up I always fished my neighborhood ponds with Zoom Super Flukes, and always did well. Color is all up to you, but I almost always went with Watermelon Seed, or Smokin' Shad.

spinners and cranks burned by the weedlines.

I've had some luck with the all white fluke jr.'s Texas rigged weightless. How do you rig and fish yours?

I rig mine the same exact way. Throw it out let it sink for a few seconds then just twitch it a few times pause and reel up the slack, and repeat. Also caught quite a few fish while fishing it fast keeping it near the top of the water.

4" Zoom dead ringer, texas rigged...... Watermelon /red or Cherryseed. I also like to fish these on a shakeyhead. I personally like these shakeyheads and highly recommend them : http://www.siebertoutdoors.com/index.php/zenith-shakey

Casting a drop shot near weeds, small 1/4 red eye shads and swim jigs would be worth a shot.

when i fish a buddies small private pond in the evenings i have tremendous luck with poppers n frogs.

For small ponds, I like Zoom C-tail in black or electric blue, Texas rigged on 1/0 widegap with 1/8 oz bullet. They eat it up!
