Treble Hooks on XR50 and XR75 lip less cranks

Featured Replies

Going to Guntersville in 3 weeks. It should be time for some lip less cranks. I know a lot of fish will slap at the bait this time of year. Do you guys think the stock hooks are sufficient? If not, What brand and size would you put on to increase hook ups?

I find the stock hooks to be excellant on Excaliber baits. I have not seen where changing hooks has really made much a differance in fish just rolling on a bait and hooking up, maybe changing the rear hook to a Rapala sure set would get a few more of those "slappers" hooked up, I wouldn't change the front hook at all, fishing over grass that is. I find changing other factors turn the slappers into hookups, change retrieve speed, change bait color, change bait size, change bait brands (like from an XR50 to a Trap) or even change bait type all together ,from a lipless to maybe a flat sided crank.

No need to change the hooks.

The Chrome Blue/ Orange is my best

producer, especially at Guntersville.

Good luck!

Thanks for the tips guys. I will post pics if there is anything good, but I still have 3 weeks to wait.

That's about the same color blue that is in my finesse worms I throw down there when it gets tough.

No need to change those Tx3 hooks. As roadwarrior said, the Blue Chrome/Orange Xr50 is a good producer.

yep. stock hooks are GTG on these baits. They'll hang onto fish and I can also confirm they will hang on to the palm of your hand pretty well too.  >:)

Make sure ya take some Green pumpkin jigs with ya! 3/4oz mop jig preferably with a gp trailor (mad paca craw). Its been very cold down here, hope it doesnt screw tour trip up.
