Question About Whats The Real Senko I Should Be Buying And How To Work Them

Featured Replies

i had been hearing great reviews of the gary y senko's. only bad i hear is they don't last long for the price. i bought a pack i am not sure if its right one i have not caught any fish on it. i noticed gary y sanko he has like 4 of them and not one of them is called just a senko i don't believe any way. they had one i got called a yamasenko in 5" that i got. another done called a worm or some sort in a blue pack saying maid by gary y looked just like the yamasenko. then a few others forget the names. i want to get more but want to get the right one that everyone talks about. also whats the right size and how do you work them? with or without weights texas rigged? thanks

This I'd say is the standard senko: GYCB regular 5"

There are 4", 6" and 7" versions too, as well as some pro-senkos (thinner? I never bought them) and some fat senkos (I have a few packs of 3" fat senkos). Then there are swim senkos- basically a senko with a paddletail.

Yes, Senkos are soft and they will tear easily after a few fish. Here is a suggestion for you to consider from Ike. It works.

Here is the method to rig a wacky Senko from Ike on his DVD and at a seminar I attended.

Go your favorite hardware store and purchase the Gardner Bender 3/8-inch Polyolefin Heat Shrink Tubing in the electrical department. Purchase the smaller version for your finesse and trick worms.

You get three tubes in one pack.

Cut the tubing into 1/4 inch sections (or whatever length you want) and run your Senko or finesse worm through the cut section until...

1. The tubing is in the middle of the worm; or

2. The tubing is over the egg sack; or

3. The tubing is where you want to put it on the worm.

Then, place the tail of the Senko or finesse worm on a desk or some other object and hold it straight out so the tubing is exposed and there is nothing under it.

Using an "igniter" (the lighter you use to light bar-b-q coals) heat the tubing until it is snug against the worm. Be sure to turn the worm as you heat the tubing to get the entire tubing hot so it will shrink onto the worm's skin.

You could use a match or cigarette lighter but I burned my fingers using these heating methods.

Run your 1/0, 2/0, 3/0 or gold #1 hook under the tubing and above the worm's skin and you are ready to roll. The weedless hooks will allow you to fish the grass and other structure without snags.

You can also remove the worm easily and not damage it.

You may run your hook under a little of the skin but that should not be a problem.

You do not have to fish this rig weedless for it to work. Any size or style of hook will suffice.

You can catch a lot of fish on one worm with this set-up.

yea but did not have th one i was looking for the exact name at least i could not find it. any ways at least i know what I'm looking for now

I think I'd skip the GY senkos and go with either the BassPro stick-o's or the Yum Dingers...same baits but much cheaper...I like the Yum Dingers since they have a little groove to hide the hook tip better...

yes yamasenko's are the real deal. Probably the best thing ive used i get about 7 lg mouth every time i go out with the 5" my best results come from smoke color with purple flake or pumpkinseed with chartruse flake, basically ive used most of the available colors in my area (nj) and have always had positive results. as for durability ill let you in on somewhat of a secret, go to home depot take your bag of senkos with you and find o-rings in the kitchen section, find an o-ring that fits snugly aroung your senko but not too tight, buy a pack of them. slide the o-ring onto the middle of the senko then using a weedless hook, hook it through underneath the o-ring wacky style and your good to go!!! i usually got through about 10 catches or more before it starts to get messed up.

I do the same except I first put the o rings on a copper tube, drop the senko inside and then pop the oring on them.

Just go with the real senko, its really worth it. Lately they have been catching at least half my bass, and I prefer to use other lures so I can develop other skills.

I just bough tr wacky rig toll for 6 bucks lol works great and holds a mess of o-rings so u don't have to waste time changing up

1) Commas and periods are your friends. 2) Save yourself money and get some Yum Dingers. I think theyre way better, cheaper and you get more in a package.
