What's your favorite color for soft plastics in the hot, stinking summer (it's been >100 degrees for what seems like a month now). I'm finding tequila colored ribbon tails to be the most productive thus far.

Also, I have learned on this Forum that the favorite colors over here in Virginia differ from the favorite colors in the deep South, midwest and out west.

With that said, in Virginia my three favorite colors for plastics are:

1. Clear Water - Watermealon with Black Flake

2. Stained Water - Green Pumpkin with Black Flake

3. Dirty Water - Junebug

I do throw the Green Pumpkin nad Junebug in stained and dirty water.

I also throw blue/black plastics, too.

Red works on the Historic James River for some unknown reason.

Just remember, dip the tails in JJs Magic yellow or blue or red to enhance your presentation. Mix JJs for orange and lime, too. JJs can work magic for you.

After you dip the tips of the tails smear MegaStrike all over the plastic. Makes the bass hold onto the bait a little longer. Works great with Senkos when the bass take the bait and walk away with it.

For the most part water color is how I choose my color also. This summer it's been green pumpkin, watermelon, and summer craw for the most part though.

Same colors I use the rest of the year. Watermelon /red flake, green pumpkin, junebug, and black/blue flake. Choice for the day depends on water clarity and/or light penetration.

I always have to buy my JJ's offline. I usually just buy a jar everytime my one I have gets to halfway, it's so much easier to dip in a new bottle versus a half used bottle.

I am trying hard to simplify the colors I carry in soft plastics... I guess I'm borderline OC when it comes to tackle and organization.

So, my organizational side would love to get down to one green pumpkin/watermelon plus flake color, junebug, and one black plus flake color. But, the obsessive side of me that is sure the fish will be biting the very specific, exact color combination that I don't have in the tackle box won't let me get there.

Regardless, the one color I have had the most success with has been GYCB's smoke with silver flake - regardless of season. And I think that, in effect, speaks to the primacy of water clarity and forage playing a bigger role in color selection than season.

yea if i get lucky on hickory, its usally watermelon, at nigh june bug/bama bug or a black trick worm

Green Pumpkin...seems to work in both the clear and stained waters that I fish. In the stained water I like to dip the claws of my craws in JJ's chartreuse. .
